- An interview with Jerry Lewis by Chris Wallace, featuring him and several former telethon poster children who call themselves "Jerry's Orphans" that claim he "Doesn't understand in any way, nor does he wish to, the majority of the (disabled) population".
Peace and love but without Lewis’ work, I don’t think any of the people complaining would have even been alive long enough to do so.
They were really ungrateful while sitting in their wheelchairs that probably came from MDA.
He was a man who was not perfect but he did put his heart and soul in the M. D. telethon. He referred to "Jerry's kid's" as a sign of endearment. There are so many bad things in this world to criticize. This is not one of them.
He stayed way too long. Probably ten to fifteen years. The Telethon was no longer broadcast on prime network affiliates. CW stations carried the show, and not all of it either.
Jerry did what he thought was right.his primary objective, was to raise money for his kids.ultimately he accomplished his mission.this man dedicated his life ,to find the cure.
I was a fan of lewis for years .He was brash many times rude. I believe he put his heart and soul into MDA . Because he was the way he was in life , it made him an easy target. But i personally believe if you can separate the two , he did great things for MDA.
At least he tried! and did a dam good job!!
thx for posting
Point blank.
The man made loads of money to this organization for the treatment of these people. But I know this…..Since Mr Lewis is gone how’s the organization now??? I don’t hear anything now. Thought so.
How they made him leave was a horrible way .
What a mockery
He WAS THE TELETHON
And never to have any more ever again. They got real quiet since 2010
Smh.
Mr. Lewis never changed with the Times. He was from a different and bygone Era. In the End, aging and reality kicked him in the tookus. Great reporting. Thanks for sharing.
Just one more reason why I hate Chris Wallace.
I would never criticize Jerry lewis for how he conducted himself.he should be commended for devoting most of his life for his telethon.this man raised way over 2 billion dollars for his cause, and some people criticized him? Millions of people considered Jerry to be a great humanitarian.im one of those millions.
People criticize him because he was a rotten person. He treated people like shit.
True. However, he profited off it by attempting to remain relevant in an never-ending, youth obsessed entertainment world.
@@johnsjohnson448 ,how did he profit from it?.jerry had die hard fans who would have supported him entirely.when he performed he had sold out venues.at the age of 69, he was a hit on Broadway in damn yankees.the fact is that Jerry lewis was a legend.
Yeah he's such a great humanitarian you need to watch this documentary on him where he raped two of his old co-stars from the 1950s yeah Jerry Lewis was not a great humanitarian he was an evil POS
@@robertrothberg8678 he got to put his tired and stale act on network tv for long periods of a time keeping his name in the spotlight while at the same time ignoring what those who were dealing with the disease were saying. pretty typical of lewis who by all accounts was a gigantic ass as a person.
That’s despicable!! Accusing a gentleman like Jerry Lewis, who worked so hard for MS!!
Pretty sure that those mobility devices and breathing devices were funded by MDA fundraising.
pretty sure they werent. by most accounts very little of the money raised went to helping mda sufferers which is why they started to object loudly and often to the "fund raising"
@@simonjames1604
Thanks for being honest Simon.
And in the end the orphans and MDA got their way. He only gave much of his life to fight the disease and through his work thousands of people were afforded care, facilities and equipment. Oh and my contributions over several years helped in a very small way as well.
It’s tuchus.
The MDA Telethon could have ended in 1990 with the 25th Anniversary and still had a great, long run. I would never have given those ungrateful ANTI-MDA "kids" a platform in which to speak. What did they offer? What money did they pledge? Exactly.
kind of poor form not to listen to the people who have the disease. it played badly back then and it plays terribly today . the only thing lewis was interested in was his own colossal ego .
@@simonjames1604 seems that way.. its hard to know if their was genuine compassion for them.. but in the end.. some positive things came about.
Plus.. those who disagreed with jerrys motives werr also given a chance to voice their greivenses on this episode.
We live and learn ☮️
Anyone know how much Jerry was making personally from these Telethons?
@@WillScarlet1991 Mr. Lewis never accepted on dime. However, many could argue that the Telethon kept his career going long past its expiration date.
@@johnsjohnson448 I'm sorry but I don't believe Jerry didn't receive a cent from his Telethons. Unless you're saying he did it all for free.
Sociopath ...
Kids he used.
6:32-7:55: this was the problem at it's core with the sociopath Jerry Lewis; he could not just help, he had to be the Jesus-like hero while doing so (while also boosting his career and image) if he really wanted to help he would have done so in silence without anyone knowing what he did
