That's probably because she has not got superpowers. They do not know how to write about people who can only fly by using an aircraft. Sad state of affairs.
I write a historical mystery series based on Kate Warne's life. The first book, The Lincoln Special, is about her efforts to thwart the Baltimore Plot, the first Lincoln assassination attempt. The great thing about the real Kate is that we know so little about her life before and after she became a Pinkerton that I can invent a bunch of stuff, while remaining historically accurate as possible (I am a History PhD after all). So thanks History Guy, for shining a light on Kate's cool story!
Thank you for all your hard work and research. Your videos are the embodiment of what educational entertainment should be. You're a very skilled storyteller.
You sir, are now about to employ on many hours of past episodes you need to catch up on and many hours of future episodes you will enjoy from the Master of History.
I just wanted to say thank you for this channel. You're such an amazing story teller. You are so deticated to getting the facts straight, and including the little interesting bits that may not be included in most boring school history books, that make the stories so captivating. You're so passionate about your work and it really shines in your writing. When you said ".. and possibly saving the life of Abraham Lincoln." I literally said "Wow!" out loud. I've always liked hearing little interesting nonfiction stories like the ones you share, but your channel alone has really sparked my new interest in history as a whole. Thank you again for all your (and your wife's!!) hard work.
I had read about Lincoln having to alter his arrival into DC for his inauguration, but this additional information makes the story that much more compelling! Thank you for sharing it with all of us!
Wow, my wife and I just saw the movie "Harriet" yesterday, and much of this story dovetails quite nicely with that film! Thanks as always for a fascinating episode!
@Grim Reaper it works wonders on the local level, and They were thick here in nw ga, their nest was unbelievable, elected rats bringing in sutlers to distribute. One good dose of trump&flynn's constitutional rat-be-gone and they were instant believers. True story.
Thank You for remembering Kate History Guy! I didn't know anything about her. Those times were truly dangerous and it sounds like Kate was in the thick of it. I wonder how history will observe these times we live in now? Many Thanks to You and your lovely wife! Peace! DaveyJO in Pa.
Excellent piece, HG. Interesting how many strong women have molded the history of our nation. Regarding that, I came here after viewing Stephen Colbert's interview of Nancy Pelosi last night. It caused me to wonder about the interaction of humorists and government in our history (Thomas Nast, Will Rogers, and many others in all media). Do you think you could do something with that concept, or is it too broad for your specialty?

@putsome basilonit I briefly worked for Pinkerton's up till mid 1983. The agency had been bought out by American Brands Corporation which later sold it again, I think to Securitas which also owns Burns Security (see below). Pinkertons now goes under the name of G4Solutions providing armed guards under contract for federal buildings. @Skip Bellon Pinkerton's Detective Agency became much hated and maligned due to its work against mine workers unions and as strike busters. Rivals such as the Burns Detective Agency and Theil Detective Agency did the same thing, using undercover detectives to identify "troublemakers" (e.g. union card holders) to management who would then fire them before they could organize a union. Uniformed agents were the mine owners' goon squad fighting against union thugs and innocent miners alike. A good story regarding Pinkerton and Theil detectives is found in the 1899 Cour d'Alene Miners Strike and subsequent trials for the assassination of a former Idaho governor in his front yard of his Caldwell, Idaho home. It was cases like this that resulted in an Idaho law, still on the books, which bans "private police forces" from operating in the state.
Very interesting! Most that I knew about the Pinkerton Agency was related to their controversial and sinister reputation in the later years. This video definitely changed my perspective on them.
I’m partially convinced that the History Guy is really a member of the Q continuum and that’s how he’s able to know such specific and out of the way history. Anyhow, he’s awesome.
The book "The Lincoln Conspiracy" by Brad Meltzer & John Mensch has excellent coverage of Kate's work with Pinkerton on the conspiracy to assassinate Abe Lincoln. Absolutely a great upload here! Thank you, History Guy! ;-)
Thank you so much for making this video I only knew of the pinkertons and the labor disputes I did not know about their Civil War history fascinating thank you.
Well and truly the best of examples of dedication to the cause of service. Women and men during a difficult and vital time in our history, devoted to the protection of one of our greatest leaders.
Thank you for this, there is a tv show on Netflix called The Pinkertons which features a female detective. I now think she may have been based on Kate Warne.
History Guy, I’ve been a fan for years. I know that you only public photos in your videos. This time I have seen at least three pictures of President Lincoln that I have never seen before. As if seeing for the first, is the Pinkerton logo at 07:15. It is a feminine eye. Wonderful video as always.
Spent 20+ years in the Navy. The finest intelligence service bar none was Philippine women. They knew stuff before the sailors did and they were rarely wrong.
@@healinggrounds19 Our problem is a failure to understand that women were the GLUE that makes a civil society... I watch the women in Congress today spouting ME-ME-ME not the past WE-WE-WE .. I'm a big fan, constant viewer, and Patreon subscriber, History Guy. Thanks for this one in particular. I teach about Kate, as part of a series of lectures I do at my college, on detectives of that middle ground between 1840 and 1910. She was the queen of detectives. How about considering doing one about William Furlong (a great St. Louis detective)? Another consideration might be John Wilson Murray, (I'm a Canadian, after all)? Keep up the great work; you are appreciated!David
Should do one on Ken McElroy and the town of Skidmore, MO (1981), along with them universally stonewalling the FBI investigation afterward. Like the plot of a spaghetti western, but modern.
Excellent video. I've seen a few comment regarding Hollywood and it's lack of originality. Too true. Although there is an interesting series on Netflix called "The Pinkertons," produced in CanadaI believe. Kate Warne is a central character. Actually follows pretty close to what you have presented to us here.
Coincidentally, I just finished the book The Expressman and the Detective by Allan Pinkerton. It tells the story alluded to in the video concerning Kate's work on the Adams Express case. It's a fascinating story, but suffers from being twice as long as it needs to be, because it's mostly dialogue between the various characters in the story, almost none of which was Pinkerton present for. Supposedly he's retelling what the agents told him. I think there was a lot of artistic licence. The other strange thing is, after reporting the investigation in excruciating minutia, he covers the conclusion, the trial, in just a few short paragraphs. Also, if one didn't know the occupation of Lincoln's assassin, how many would guess actor? If one didn't know the occupation of Lincoln's attempted assassin, how many would guess hair dresser?
Well said....She was a great Police Officer of the times she was....By the way that nice blue cap on a green glass skull...Very fitting of you my friend...O'yes thanks once again very much...Good day..!
I heard about her on the Ovation cable TV channel, which broadcast the Canadian TV show, "The Pinkertons." The show's setting is post-Civil-War Missouri, which looks very cold and snowy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pinkertons
While the story of Kate Warne is a delightful historical gem as presented, it would have been a great opportunity for Mrs. History Guy to make another appearance on the channel.
Good TV series The Pinkertons is a Canadian Western police procedural television series which features crime cases of the Pinkerton detective agency. The show is officially licensed with the Pinkerton detective agency, and features stories based on actual cases from the Pinkerton detective agency archives dating to the 1860s.
I take it the stories about Kate are from Pinkerton's writings? Also the book Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War, By Karen Abbott is an AMAZING book that covers Kate and others. Thank you
The movie The Tall Target (1951) is about the Baltimore plot. Alas, Kate isn't a character in the film. It's a good film, currently available at the Internet Archive.
Hollywood can barely come up with original scripts, yet The History Guy gives us story after story, all of them ripe for a movie.
That's probably because she has not got superpowers. They do not know how to write about people who can only fly by using an aircraft. Sad state of affairs.
Can you say, "Charlie's Angels" the Civil war years?
Nevermind tinseltown, someone is working on "Kate Warne, the musical" at this very moment I suspect. It's not me, honest.......

So true.

As always a marvelous story in just a few minutes. Way to go HG.
Mr & Mrs 'The History Guy, you guys are awesome. I really enjoyed this part of history. She was more than a detective.... she was a Spy.

They made a a series involving her character but it was cancelled after the first season.
jojo jack not enough sex and explosions.
@@terrygrossmann2295 yeah that's one reason why it failed and let's all be honest the first three episodes acting was horrible.
