It’s a fact that Byrne was in Washington less than 24 hours from the time Saban retired. DeBoer was their guy from the start.

This is correct. Substantiated by Cubelic, Pate, and McElroy. I reckon they probably called Sark out of respect.

No evidence that Lanning, Sarkisian, or Norvell were ever offered the job--how do these rumors get started. Jimmy Sexton orchestrated the entire thing--he's not only the agent for all of the coaches in this drama, he's Nick Saban's agent! Does anyone think that none of those coaches knew about the situation with Saban before the official announcement? Sexton played the entire situation like a symphony orchestra! He got raises for Sarkisian and Norvell, made Lanning look like the humble coach who refused to leave Oregon, and DeBoer, who was the target all along, got the Alabama coaching job. DeBoer had an extension as Washington's head coach on his desk for over a month, and never signed it. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Look if ESPN reports first day that the top target is Dan Lanning, and then rumors swirl, including Alabama people saying it’s him, then everyone’s just fucking crazy and that day didn’t happen. Deboer was low on everyone’s list to replace until everyone came out and said no. Spin it anyway you like but if everyone, including Vegas is pinning you as the top target, then that is the top target.

Byrne has already stated that Deboer was the only person they talked to. Saban suddenly retires Wednesday at 3:50 PM, Byrne and DeBoer finalize the contract Thursday before lunch. Please tell me where there was time to kick any other tires. I shouldn’t tell this but, Deboer was contacted before Bowl Season began and he was asked his level of interest if and when Nick retired:

Who says, Alabama didn't get the ideal choice. I'm a 50+ year Alabama fan and thought most of the names being talked about were ridiculous. Sark is great but Sark wasn't leaving Texas. Dan L wasn't leaving what HE built at Oregon. Kalen DeBoer is the best choice of the available people and I thing the right person for Alabama.

In the case of Lanning, Sarkisian, and Norvell, as well as DeBoer, he would only need to reach out to one agent--Jimmy Sexton--who was also the agent for Nick Saban. Do you think his agent didn't know he was going to retire? And whisper to Kalen DeBoer, "Hey, Kalen...hold off on signing that extension that Washington is offering you at 9 million, something might be coming up." "Well, Jimmy, you know the only job I would leave Washington for would be Alabama." "Yeah, Kalen, I know...just hold off awhile."

I think it's more the changing world of college football at such a rapid place. With the Transfer Portal, and the NIL, the players are all looking out for themselves--as they should, and as anyone in any other business would. But the hassle of getting people to donate money to have better players on the football team--especially the really great players who will turn that experience into a career worth millions of dollars, why would any coach want to put up with that? And then you have the Transfer Portal, where you can go to the highest bidder. It;s simply unreal. DeBoer is a very good coach, with a great staff, but he may run into some trouble at Alabama when he has to start recruiting his own players. Guys loved to play for Nick Saban at Alabama, and while he is still there, he is no longer the coach that recruited them. Alabama has enough skilled players to make it a very good year for them, but what happens in years 3 and 4? DeBoer is counting on the recruits he has now to keep the quality kids coming to Alabama, and that might not happen so quickly and easily.

@@Talkitrhrough The only skilled guys in the Transfer Portal right now are from Alabama. And he didn't build the Washington Huskies with players from the Transfer Portal...we got Penix and Dillon Johnson and Germie Bernard from the TP...the rest were mainly recruits from Coach Petersen when he was here. You can't build the foundation of a team from the Transfer Portal, you use it to plug holes.
