He was once switching on the Christmas lights in sheffield uk, he walked down by the crowd and picked me out of my mums arms cuddled me in and processed to walk off returning about five min later gave me a big kiss and gave me back to my mum and said what a little smasher your lucky i didn't take him home, i always had a soft spot for old les he was a comedy genius and a lovely bloke God bless him.
Thanks for a great reaction. Les Dawson was quite a character in his day. I used to particularly love the way he'd get on the piano & play something, deliberately getting all the notes wrong. Yet another great comedian who was taken from us way too young.
A wonderful comedian.. hilarious.. some of his jokes are rib killers and brutal too.. a more endearing comedian.. yesterday's jimmy car and alot funnier
As somebody who lives in Cumbria I can tell you it's funny because essentially it's true. Every year in Egremont you'll find The Crab Fair, the highlight of which is The World Guerning Championship. There are videos of this on you tube , it is worth a look. Down the road from Egremont is Santon Bridge, and that's famous for hosting The Worlds Greatest Liar Contest. It's an amateur event Open to all except Politicians, Journalists and Estate Agents (Realtors). They're considered professionals. Again videos are on you tube. After watching these you'll probably come to the conclusion that we don't have much to do up here. Yeah, Cumbria. Where men are men and sheep are worried.
Forty odd years ago I managed a theatre and during the Summer we had a show Monday to Saturday twice nightly with stars of the day plus a Sunday concert which was also two shows. Les Dawson starred in one of those and I spent some time chatting to him in his dressing room. A lovely man and a great live performer.
Les often had a dance act on his show - there are some videos on here of them if you search. They were called The Roly Polys and they were …… memorable! Try tapping in. Les Dawson. Roly Polys. 1991
Hey EB👍thankyou so much for this one mate,I remember watching this as a kid with my Dad and we creased up so hard at the time, you brought that moment back with a superb reaction. Thankyou Alan✌️
I always come back to your channel and watch your old vids when i am down Your laughter, doen to earth view on things and smart comments make me feel much better... Thank You for that and for just being an awesome human being!
Les Dawson was a comedy genius. A marvellous wordsmith, a brilliant physical comedian, a wonderful and wonderfully terrible pianist and an excellent writer. I still miss him. Check out Cissy and Ada and his piano skits. He was once on a show with glamorous musical diva Shirley Bassey and his opening line to her was “I thought I told you to wait in the van.”
This was Les Dawson's version of a theme tune, a sort of theme joke . He was a great comedian . Came from a very tough background in Collyhurst , a working class suburb of manchester.
Now, that is not fair Britain had a humongous amount of great stand up comedians in his day. Each to their own & each with their own brand of humour & entertainment.
Just seen "Girl rants about the price of ice creams " it was a piece of art. She sounds like she is from Yorkshire and the video has a huge amount of hits from over the world. I would love to see her as a politician or better still our P.M. of course she can never be that because she clearly has a well adjusted understanding of honesty and economics, which our politicians can only dream of understanding the concept of honesty and economics of the standard of this wonderful little girl.
Loved Les , such a natural and very talented . He made Blankety Blank his own after Terry Wogan left - which was not an easy job . Great jokes and the off key piano - you had to be good to do that and make it sound right . Sadly missed .
It's great how you naturally found it funny, albeit northern English humour. You can guarantee that some persons in the UK with cleft palates will be laughing their heads off.
Les was awesome, always made me laugh no matter what the subject. He also hosted a game show called Blankety Blank and was great on there too, maybe check that out to Alan. He is very sadly missed by us all who knew of his greatness and a sad loss to comedy too.
If you like Les Dawson you should check him out singing 'Feelings'. It will probably leave the in need of resuscitation lol 😂. He was an absolute genius.
Hi Alan Atho Les went on find fame from a TV talent show series Unbelievable talent especially at playing the piano wrongly Clio with him and Shirley Basset one of his best ever You should find many clips of his online Oh Don't forget to look at Dick Emery shows as well. Enjoy R I P Les
Hiya Alan, I'm glad to say I'm a Cumbrian, they used to do Gurning in the old days, it was misarable old men and women, but Les Dawson changed into something comedy like, my friend was world Gurning Champion in the middle 1980s his name was John "Snowball" Bryan, God it was horrible, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
I'm from the local area to the gurning championships CRAB APPLE FAYRE in egremont is where it happens it's been held for about 755 years when you consider the USA is about 260 years old the crab Apple fayre is half a century older. My sister won it one year just passing by in a taxi 😂👍
Never seen this one before, was great. Not sure if I should admit I'm from Cumbria after that 😂😂 For more context on gurning look up the Egremont Crab Fair & the World Gurning Championships

Girning is a competition thing in Cumbria
@@scottmasson3336 I never knew it was a thing. Would love to check out some footage of it!
Loved Les he was hilarious and a terrific piano player
There will never be another like Les Dawson
What would Les Dawson have done without "the wife or the mother in - law"!. He'd stand on stage with noting to say. 🤣🤣
A wonderful comedian.. hilarious.. some of his jokes are rib killers and brutal too.. a more endearing comedian.. yesterday's jimmy car and alot funnier
Honestly British humour at its best what a Gem Les Dawson was ❤❤❤❤😂

One of my favourite comedians ever. Ada and Cissy were brilliant how they kept their faces straight was amazing.
This brings back some memories. I miss his mother-in-law jokes!
Epic! It's almost the epitome of can't keep a straight face 😜
Many thanks for showing this classic clip of Les Dawson.Seen this many times and tears still come my eyes!😆
Les was a very talented man, my Dad loved him and it was only when I got older that I could appreciate his humour 😜😜
60s and 70s acts worked hard as stage acts before television.
I remember watching this sketch years ago with my sister and Dad. By the end of it we were all on the floor in tears of laughter 😆 😂
Hey EB👍thankyou so much for this one mate,I remember watching this as a kid with my Dad and we creased up so hard at the time, you brought that moment back with a superb reaction. Thankyou Alan✌️
2:51 my goodness that face 😂I've not laughed this much in a while.
A true wordsmith and genuine, funny man. Much missed

I had the good fortune to meet Les Dawson twice he was just as entertaining off stage as he was on it.

Thanks for reminding how lucky we were in those days.Very gifted man.
So glad you looked at this classic 😊

He has a classic North of England face even when not gurning.
Another one of our sadly missed comics

Excellent, I had a colleague ..a cross between Les Dawson and Bernard Manning....😅😅
I'm from the local area to the gurning championships CRAB APPLE FAYRE in egremont is where it happens it's been held for about 755 years when you consider the USA is about 260 years old the crab Apple fayre is half a century older. My sister won it one year just passing by in a taxi 😂👍

I’d love to see a reaction to a gurning competition
I enjoyed your reaction as much as I enjoyed the joke.
Ooh the old ones are the best.
The word genius is often over used but not when it's said about Les.
