Loved this video! I've been a "book worm" since I was very young! Your homestead library has a couple I don't have!! Yet..... Thank you Heather!! God bless!
Thank you very much! I'm always looking for good homesteading books to learn as much as possible. I also sent this to my sister because she is interested in herbalism and homesteading as well.
I knew it!! I knew if I watched this my wallet would suffer lol! But, I was able to refrain from buying several and only ordered the Amish one. Others are safely in my wishlist on amazon. Really great recommendations! Thanks!
@@SageandStoneHomestead I have a question totally unrelated to this video but what kind of grain do you feed your bucks? My vet said not to feed my wethers any grain but I don't know if they need more than just hay in winter. It's good quality hay but obviously there's not much foraging to be had.
We feed a grain that has a correct calcium to phosphorus ratio. You want it to be 2 to 1 ratio so they are less likely to develop bladder stones. The feed we give is kalmbach goat feed!
Lol, I have a book written by Carla Emery from 1971 " An encyclopedia of Country Living Old Fashioned Recipe Book" It has the Elephant Stew, Stone Soup, Mouse Pie and a funny Turkey Stuffing "recipe" But also so full of good, basic recipes and TONS of other useful skill builders for a homestead! ❤️ 📚
Thanks Heather for the list of books... Very informative. Is that is definitely something that I do love having is a small library of Hands-On books! I even have some very old books that my dad has had before he passed away, so he's had them for about 60 to 70 years and some of those are all about pruning, do-it-yourself Garden Construction know-how, wood projects for the garden, space saving ideas, greenhouses, Greenhouse gardening, 12 months of harvest, these are all Ortho books and I don't even know if these books are even in print anymore?
Wow, thank you Heather - what a fabulous collection of books. I had to get the canning book as you know! I think I have a couple others already in my collection, but will definitely be looking to add more. Your review and info about each book is super helpful to get a true feel for the book's content and knowledge value. 💚📚📚💚
Hi! I'm excited to see you are doing the collab too! I am also a creator and will be posting a video soon! It's so exciting to see everyone who is participating and the great information they have to share! 💚💚💚
She's got the playlist but it hasn't been updated in a few days. I imagine they wait a handful of days before searching again, but Do the @RootsandRefuge and put "Roots and Refuge Collaboration" in the title. That's what she said to do!
It’s not a substitute for a good field guide, but many smartphones will now recognize plants or animals in your photos and show you several different options for what it might be. It’s not perfect (and if I were foraging I wouldn’t necessarily trust it to eat stuff), but it is helpful if you’re curious while out exploring.
I bought Fermenting book too! I got addicted to buying Fermented Homesteads Kraut and finally started making my own. It is a daily part of my nutrition now.
The internet and technology can be a great source of information! However, all it takes is one little hiccup to be completely cut off from accessing that information! Not to mention having to weed out the bad advice! Having a good little library of the topics you are involved with is just like an insurance policy, it pays when you need it!! Thanks for sharing your library with us and stay safe!!
Wonderful collection! I admit I let out a squeal of glee when I saw "Carrots Love Tomatoes". That is absolutely one of my heirloom books - my Grand-Aunt had it, loaned it to my mother, and it's what helped my city-raised Mom have a garden when I was growing up. I had no idea there was a sequel, so I will definitely search that one out. I am a little more "Chaos Gardener" than "Architect Gardener", so interplanting and playing mix-and-match with my veggies, herbs, flowers, and fruits all in the same areas is my kind of garden. My partner is learning how to interplant, but he really is more a monocrop row gardener. (I think it drives him a little crazy when I pop in basil next to some of the tomatoes he planted, though he seems to be bothered less by all the marigolds in there, too...) Tip to the new gardener who wants to plant marigolds with tomatoes: Ensure you are NOT planting Giant African Marigolds betwixt your tomato plants unless you are prepared to have Marigold plants as tall as you that also bush outward like a small tree. 😂
Thanks for sharing the resource books you use. I got on the preorder list for the Amish Canning and Food Preservation Book! :) I also bought the Square Foot Gardening book, which might help a bit next spring.
I just found a few videos from the author of The Holistic Goat Care book you referenced here in this video!! I thought as I watched her video on Mineral Buffets, that I recognized the book from this video. To confirm my suspicion, I pulled this video up to re-watch. I wish she had more UA-cam videos but I have enjoyed the few she has posted.
Eeek! So excited you contributed to such a great resource and can’t wait for others to find your gem of a channel. I’m saddened because now I want to buy so many books and need to practice restraint😂
I highly recommend you read the book Plant Partners by Jessica Walliser! I am halfway through the book right now and honestly it is riveting. It has changed my entire outlook on gardening and I am thrilled to start cultivating my own mini ecosystem in the years to come.
