Gibraltar
By Freddie Hubbard / arr. Mike Kamuf
Item: 00-45076
Series: Jazz Band
Grade 3.5
Ensemble: Jazz Ensemble
Format: Conductor Score & Parts
Freddie Hubbard's ""Gibraltar"" is a jazz standard recorded by all the greats. A very hip samba played at around 180 BPM, written-out solos provided for trumpet 2 and tenor sax 2, plenty of action for the drummer, and lead trumpet range to written A. There are a few snippets of Freddie Hubbard licks throughout. A smokin' chart in every way, arranged by Mike Kamuf. (6:28)

I already do
I dont know if this was intentional, it likely was, but the song sounds similar to Blue Bossa at the beginning. Let me be clear: this is not a complaint lol. I love both songs
This song smacks
Freddie Hubbard! Gibraltar is a fine tune for sure. Freddie is so underrated as a composer, and yes, even as a trumpet player.
I guess I'm kind of off topic but do anybody know a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
@Crosby Malcolm Ehh I use flixportal. Just google for it :P -messiah
@Messiah Ben Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I appreciate it!!
@Crosby Malcolm Glad I could help :D
Truly a great tune! It's from Freddie Hubbard's "Born to be Blue."
Brilliant ! There is no other word for it !
Thank you Jim!
Freddie Hubbard would definitely approve!
Thank you!
3:54 Backlash reference?
I put Freddie's groove lick in there that he does from time to time. When he uses this device, Freddie uses alternate fingerings on the repeated notes - it's a very cool effect & I just had to put it in there!
WOAH Are you the real deal? If not im still grateful to know the origin of that lick. For some reason i didn't think more than one person contributed
Freddie composed the tune and I arranged it. Not sure if I'm the "real deal" or not but I am the arranger of this one! Freddie is one of my favorite composers and I was glad I had the opportunity to write this arrangement.
Bass trombone is too quiet!
give me like 3-5 years and i'll get some people to record this. I'll match the bass bone to the rest of the band! 👍
#Blue bossa?
Zargas413 definitely has a hint of it in there lol
Zargas413 You got a point. I wonder which song came first...
I think so. Good ol real book coming back
For real. The influence here is strong

Lead trumpet plays two notes at once on the final chord?
the top note is optional i think
Yes - the top note is optional because it is out of range for this series.
The bari at the beginning tho
it's a good line alright
