The duck can easily run off and get hurt on accident. Leashes help the owner keep track of the duck and help the duck stay safe. Also looks like it loves it too. It’s a win win

She hid under the porch where they couldn't see her. Her original owner was afraid of her getting hurt so I wound up with her. I already had 2 Peking fucks so she wasn't lonely. I still miss her and it's been 30 years.

We just have wild ducks we feed in our backyard, but some of them are so funny. It’s so tempting to try to pet one but NO. I know way better than to do that. But if I *DID* have a pet duck, you can bet your ass I’d be taking my new friend on adventures like you do yours. My favorite ducks we get are the Muskovee ducks. They’re huge but really gentle (at least ours are-I’ve heard others say they have different experiences with theirs), and are so adorable and funny. They get really happy when we put out food and will run up to us. Luckily, they’re also REALLY smart, and seem to remember faces. We have families we’ve watched grow from babies to adults. Last night, I had to take 2 pizza boxes out to the garbage and the babies were out there (almost fully grown-they’re SO adorable 🥺), and one ran right up to me and looked super disappointed when he found out I didn’t have any food to give them. So I had to go back in and get a few scoops of food and they were super happy and just so fuckin adorable. So I know damn well that you take good care of your ducks, because I know what a happy and trusting duck looks like, and yours are living their best lives. a couple of years ago a dove had nested on our gas meter, she layed two eggs and two cute little baby doves cane out of it. one day i was going out and i saw the nest was shatterd and a cat was standing right in front of me with a swollen belly (it had eaten the poor baby) . i looked between the gas meter and the wall and i saw the other baby clinging for life on the shattered parts of the nest, i bringed it inside and put it in a big bowl in my room. poor thing was so scared i though it'd die of shock(i say it cause we never found out the gender but it was probably a she ) after a couple of hours she was calmer and started walking and exploring the room. she became a family member, most of the time she was free and roaming with us in the living room but she was still small and we had to be very careful, only at nights or when we were tired we'd put her in her cage. she was supposed grow into an adult dove in like 40 days but it took her 3 months 😑😂 i'm guessing we didn't gave her what her mom would've. anyway after he started flying we just didn't put her in the cage anymore. we put her in the guestroom at nights and she's good on top of the wardrobes and sleep there. after a while we decided to let her free, but everytime we put her in the backyard she'd just come back in 😭 until one night we put her in a little wooden home we had made for her in out backyard, and didn't let her come in, by morning she was exploring the garden and stuff. and then a group of doves came and she went with them. for a while we would put food for them and they'd come back every day. i miss her but i'm happy she went with her kind❤

If they jolt very suddenly or leap while on a leash and reach the end of the leash their spines can get a force on them big enough to break. As a vet tech and bunny owner myself who has seen a few bunnies with this problem over the years I would never recommend a leash for them 🤷♀️
I have a giant rouen that I have a leash for so I can take him to a nice deep spot in the stream near the back of the property. He loves it, he gets to dive for some plants and small fish/bugs and it's nice on especially hot days where a slow moving stream is much cooler than his little pond
