It's called a distraction; you can train your brain to basically do the same thing. I divide my thoughts into two parts, conscious and subconscious. My subconscious often is overthinking. So I give it something to do while my conscious wants to sleep. So I use a digital clock for this, stare at the clock and say out loud to yourself the current time, then say the time you want to wake up. You want to take deep breaths while you do this, about 3-5 times in and out with your breathing very slowly filling your lungs completely and then letting it out, keep repeating the time "It is 9:00pm and I want to wake up at 6:15am" I fall asleep within 10 min or so and I wake up within 5min of the time I requested from myself. Been doing this for about 15 years. I wish you sleep well my friend.
I'm Brazilian, for a long time I lived in a city that bordered another country (Paraguay) I remember when my family and I would drive there, sounds like these would make me fall asleep. I miss that a little bit, they did it around 12 to 11 years ago, and as we traveled a lot, and not just to Paraguay, I always ended up falling asleep to the sounds of wagons and trucks passing by on the roads. I really miss that type of feeling, It's not like I'm old, I'm 19, but I miss stuff like that
