  • Watch this plot hole getting fixed: • Fixing Naruto's Bigges...
Naruto is a great series but it has problems. In this video I will be discussing and fixing Naruto's biggest plot hole. The sheer number of ninjas in the world. During the 4th Great Ninja War, when the Ninja Alliance comes together we found out there are 80 thousand ninjas in the alliance. This is way too much.
It's impossible for the Leaf Village and the other major nations to produce that number of ninjas in the pacing that we see in the series. Konoha's Ninja Academy only produces about 9 ninjas per year, so it would not be possible to reach this number. But let's talk about ways this could be explained and fix the plot hole in Naruto Shippuden.

9 Ninjas only graduated from his class? That's your big mistake dude. To put it more accurately: 9 Ninjas we knew, graduated from his class. Judging by the size of the classroom, the number of students in the academy is probably 30-40 per class. And we don't even know how many classes in the academy of Konohagakure. Not to mention, almost everyone in the village is a Ninja, other than those like Teuchi, but it was a village of mostly Ninjas.
So, I don't think it's weird for this number in the war, especially if we count on the number of Ninja graduating every year. And this is just from Konohagakure.

Additionally, within the Land of Fire alone, we are introduced to many other smaller villages that have ninja. While the major villages are the only ones mentioned, its apparent that all the ninja of the world took part. There are even references of people scouting ninjas from these smaller villages for the war effort.

Actually, the leaf 9 are not from the same class, Neji, Tenten and Lee are from the class before the MC. The Leaf 9 were focused on due to their talent within their generation. But if you look at the earlier episodes there were more students in their class and the academy had multiple classes and sensei's. It is likely that this was also the case for all other villages. Also, it is likely that, even if not directly referenced Shinobi of the smaller villages were also present in the allied forces.

even taking that into consideration, let’s do some numbers. if 90 kids graduated a year, that’s still 160 years. the leaf 9 are also supposed to be exceptionally talented so odds are the other classes had fewer graduates. also, there’s been 3 wars since the founding of the villages, the entire uchiha clan got wiped out, a lot of those graduates are dead, you’d have to factor those in and the numbers would actually have to be even higher! i mean, minato killed 1000 shinobi alone. he’s exceptionally talented but people like the third raikage should have similar feats considering he “fought” 10,000 for 3 days straight.

    • @udbhavvijay4167
      @udbhavvijay4167 2 місяці тому +1

@@124avenged I think it was way more than that just 90 graduates. Considering the time between the wars which is also the time in which the villages recover from their losses in the previous war and strengthen themselves for the next one. The number of graduates should be 1/10th of their losses in the wars. My guess is that there are 400-500 graduates every year which will allow them to recover 4-5 k ninjas in 10 years.
As for Minato he killed 1000 shinobis 'extremely quickly'. Raikage cannot be his match because he couldn't turn 10000 shinobis into 9000 in a breath. Whether Minato could kill 10000 shinobis is not a matter of skill but a matter of chakra consumption. While in Raikage's case, he uses taijutsu alongside lighning release which despite being quite fast is not enough to kill multiple shinovis at the same time. He was killed by taking on 10000 shinobis for 3 days straight, not for defeating them. Even Hashirama died while taking on thousands of shinobis (not sure about the exact number), I don't think the Raikage possessed the strength of thousands of shinobis

Even with this it just doesn't work. If we assume all 72 passed its still bad.
Lets assume that to maintain an army you need that many soldiers trained every 20 years just for simple plausible numbers. That means we need 15,000 every 20 years or 750 annually.
If we assume 72 passed every year from the capital that means the capital provides 9.6% of troops. If we scaled this to population of the capital vs rest of the land the absurdity should be clear.
That ratio would be approximately equivalent to if Tokyo was the capital of all the following countries combined:
      Japan
      Philippines
      South Korea
      UK
      Ireland
      Netherlands
So either the capital is laughably underpopulated or the outskirts are overpopulated. For reference of that list of countries the only ratio lower is Netherlands (Used to be multiple city states with different capitals of roughly equal size) at 5%. Philippines is at 12%, UK at 15% and all others approx 20%.

Just like the monks that were clearly ninjas and the Uchiha police force members that were all Itachis age. It's likely the academy is more of a prodigious thing for talented clan members. And a place for talented nobody's like Sakura and Naruto(was assumed by his peers) to make a name for themselves. After all, all the graduates from there that we see become the best of the best.
There's likely other schools in other towns ND cities, the land of fire is huge. And there may even be more schools in Konoha. But if not then families probably have a way of training there own and submitting them as genin.

The lore made way more sense when the hidden villages were simply military powerhouses who sold their power to the highest bidders within their lands.
In the beginning of the manga the Hidden Leaf is much smaller and it's made very clear that the absolute majority of the people in the Naruto world are simple farmers and tradesmen etc. Only very few people have cracked the code for chakra manipulation and they keep all of their findings secret, this is why the military villages are hidden.
By the ending of the manga the Hidden Leaf is depicted as a major player in global politics, having a massive population size and territory. And all of the sudden far more people understand and are capable of chakra manipulation.

We assume that only 9 pass the genin test every year, because of what Kakashi said, but that is likely not the case, because each Jonin teacher has different criteria to determine a pass and fail. Kakashi likely lies about the number because he tries to make the stakes even higher. We assume there are only 9 passes because of the Chounin exams but teams 7, 8, and 10 might just be the best teams of that year, where other genin teams might have taken the Team Guy approach, and waited a year or 2 before taking the test.

This means the chunins produced should even be lesser. My headcannon was that the chunin exams were primarily for genin that had jonin senseis to teach them or were from the genin corps and were given permision to apply for the chunin exams due to proving themselves. Considering the chunin exam is publisised for their clients, they only want the relatively best genin to be shown so there are strict conditions for entering, like requiring a recomendation by a jonin or special jonin. It would explain the numbers for the chunin exam...
As for the classes, i just assumed that there were many classes, and we only see the students that graduate to genin rank with jonin senseis, with the others gong to the genin corps, after all, the academy is a military academy, so once they finish they would get put into the military of their nation.
Baisically we were always following the top 1 percent of potential ninja that were given special privileges due to showing the most potential, think of it like looking at officer schools students instead of the general military academy, it's just that we are not shown those details.
Also most of these problems come from the severe number of retcons throughout the story, so it's obviously going to have considerable differences towards the ending than the beginning when most of these details were not thought of by the author. Hell I remember reading somewhere that kishimoto didn't think the series would succeed past the chunin exam so he made it as fun as possible and didn't think too much about the future story at the time. Otherwise he wouldn't have made the replacement technique in the chunin exam work like a litteral teleportation ( with log left in place ) spell. Hell sasuke's special rinnegan ability is litterally the replacement technique, that's how damn unfair it was when we first saw it used extensively during the forest of death

You know what would make more sense as an explanation? Either the rookie 9 weren't the only rookies that year or most graduating classes from the academy have a lot more students. We could've just only followed those 9 to lesson the number of characters to keep track of (in universe, they were the only three rookie teams that their sensei felt were ready for the exams). Or they somehow managed to have such poor grades that year that only 9 students graduated, including the kid who failed 3 times before, just barely making full teams

  • @DavidLegend-xf5xq
    @DavidLegend-xf5xq 4 місяці тому +5

So.... Other, smaller villages don't exist, or the fact that maybe Naruto's class just didn't have a lot of ninjas that graduated. Actually, nevermind, because in the manga, it explicitly says that ONLY Naruto didn't graduate, and you see a bunch of young ninja who we never get names to, so way more than 9 graduated.

  • @Nether2342

True. But here's something to consider.
1*The Shinobi villages are comprised up of clans.
2*Not all Shinobi clans send there children off to the academy. As we saw with Hinata who was sent to the academy because her father thought that she was of no use to the clan.
3* the vast majority of the ninja forces are comprised up of Shinobi clansmen, not villagers. Just because Naruto's generation had only 1 member from each major clan, and had more villagers, doesn't mean that just cause that was the case in Naruto's generation that that would be the case in every generation.
If the next generation was comprised up of more clansmen than villagers, there would be an influx of ninja.
4* lastly, the hidden leave took a massive L to their quantity of soldiers due to the nine tails attack, the same could be said for the hidden mist who had gone through their civil war.
So it would be very much possible that the villages could have retained even up to twenty thousand Shinobi if the Ninetails didn't attack the leaf.

9 ninjas from his graduating class were chosen to compete in the Chuunin Exams and made it to the prelims. That doesn't mean that 9 ninjas graduated from the academy during his year. When Kakashi sent his failed Genin back to the academy, they were still technically graduates with headbands, but basically became TA’s at the academy. So I think there are is a lesser group of non mission ready shinobi that comes out of the academy that can be used in war time. Think of it similarly to all members of the military get basic training, but some are handling administrative or other noncombat tasks.

In the past, many more ninjas were trained, but at the time of Naruto, the demand for new ninjas was very low, which is why there were so few new recruits. The times were simply too peaceful for there to be a need for more ninjas. And ninjas are also damn expensive because of the maintenance and training.
When the war started, they sent anyone who could hold a kunai to the front. The villages were basically deserted during the battles.

    I also tough in that
But there is a simply explanation, the nations were supose to be in a process of de-militarization after the World War III, so they probably were recruiting more members before the peace negotiations
But there is a thing that not all noticed, they are probably gennin, because if Naruto wasn't graduated to Chunnin after literally saying the fifth hokage in battle, i don't think that a random guy will be ascended for capturing a random minion in combat
