This video was filmed just outside the Great Mosque complex in Córdoba, Spain🇪🇸 In parts of this video you can see the famous Roman bridge in the background.
I was traveling with my mother-in-law from Madrid down to Granda where I, Alhamdulillah declared my Shahada on December 1st in the Mezquita in Granada overlooking Alhambra.
I attempted to film this video while walking through the Great Mosque but was told I was unable to film using audio. I thought this was strange because I could see other people doing this however, perhaps it’s because I was using the front-facing camera? I then decided to at least film some b-roll and was asked to stop filming, again, for using a tripod!?
🍊After I toured around inside the Great Mosque, I started to film in the Plaza los Naranjos which is the courtyard outside the Great Mosque. About 6 minutes in, I was stopped by a security guard who told me that I wasn’t allowed to film with audio!? I decided to leave the complex, while filming and was mean-mugged by another security guard who again told me to stop filming🫠 Finally, I made my way outside of the complex and was able to film without any trouble.
In this video, I talk about my love of volunteering and giving back to those who need it and about volunteering at a Muslim organization in NYC. I discuss my privilege and how Allah (SWT) has given some of us more privilege to test us and see how we can use those opportunities to help those who have less than we do.
The woman who helps run the soup kitchen was pretty skeptical of me when I showed up at the church. She questioned my beliefs and although I had already accepted the tenets of Islam; I had acknowledged and recognized the truth of Islam, I had not taken my Shahada yet.
I then go on to explain how many in the Muslim community started unfriending me on social media and how I got an email from someone in the community saying that “they knew who I was.” This situation was very unnerving and at the same time understandable because the Muslim community in the US especially in NYC had been heavily surveilled.
Soon after, I stopped attending Friday prayers at the ICNYU, their Convertsations group and basically moved away from the community entirely.
After graduating from NYU, I moved on to an MSW program at Columbia University, because, Alhamdulillah I have always been grateful and wanted to assist Syrians in integrating into American society.
In the summer leading up to the second year of my MSW program, I got really sick. Alhamdulillah Allah (SWT) was really testing me at that time. My family and friends had either completely abandoned me, mocked me, or added insult to my injuries and besides my husband, there was nowhere I could turn to, except for Allah (SWT). So, Alhamdulillah for that I really leaned into His Mercy and His Guidance because it was truly the only thing I could do at the time. This reminds me of the Surah 94 verse 5 in our Holy Qu’ran which states, So, surely with hardship comes ease. فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا Qur’an 94:55.

Many Europeans/Americans pretend as Muslims on social media. Actually, They aren't. These days, Many Jewish & Christians girls/men/women (zoinists, Not all Christians or jews) are showing their sympathy with Muslims. But, They are making money from social media platforms to donate Isreal. 😂😂

But, Insha'Allah must be said towards a coming up act, or intention, or a wish.. A submission to the will of Allah..
وَلَا تَقُولَنَّ لِشَيْءٍ إِنِّي فَاعِلٌ ذَٰلِكَ غَدًا
إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ وَاذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ
وَقُلْ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَهْدِيَنِ رَبِّي لِأَقْرَبَ مِنْ هَٰذَا رَشَدًا
{And never say about anything, “I will do that tomorrow“. except with Allah's willing.” And remember your Lord when you forget, and say, “might my Lord will guide me to get nearer this in righteousness -integrity-.}
al-Kahf 18/23.18/24
And I assume you meant 'write' not 'say', because even if I say it (and I always do), you won't be able to hear it.
And when speaking of Allah 👉(Subhanhu wa ta'ala) There are a lot of ways to glorify Him.
And that's also not something I prefer to show off in English.. Don't worry about me and my relation with Allah.. You just don't know who Am I.. Jazaka'llaho khayran

If you can't read Arabic, here's the verses in English to understand that Insha'Allah mostly said when we don't mention (speak of ) Allah directly:
Surah al-Kahf
23. And never say about anything, “I will do that tomorrow.”
24. Except "If Allah will" And remember your Lord when you forget and say: "It might be that my Lord guides me unto a nearer way of righteousness to it.”
And I assume you meant -by 'say'- write, because when I say anything from the infinite expressions to glorify the almighty => (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) you won't be able to hear me, nor that would satisfy anyone more than I do.. So if I didn't write something someone was expecting it to be written, that doesn't mean I didn't say it.
And before you advice someone in a form of ordering, then you need to learn something called Tact of expression. Specially with people you know nothing about them at all, or their own relation to Allah.

I often struggle to relate to convert storys. Because i converted when i was going through my toughest, everyone had abandoned me, i felt so far away from God and because im still not "happier now" than i was before i converted.
In many ways i was the happiest many years before i was muslim.
But youre right Allah tests us.
And He is the closest to us when we are the furthest from Him.
I am sure of that.

Sometimes it can be hard to wrap our heads around being tested. And I know what it’s like to be abandoned by everyone. When my health fell apart it was such a difficult time for me, Alhamdulillah.

Surah Aali 'Imran
139. And do not waver, nor be sad. You are the superior ones-if you are believers
Indeed we are told you will be tasted,,fear not,,even the prophet passed through hard period before he triumphed to teach a lesson,,remember the trials of all the prophets,,
Wow what a profound thing to write. Everybody should read your comment and understand that as Muslims we search not for happiness but fulfillment. Being happy is a temporal feeling whereas feeling a sense of fulfillment by following Allah sw's rules is something that you feel every day.
Masha'Allah as a mxcan revert its a blessing to hear other revert stories. May Allah azza wa jall, keep you steadfast and may He ta'ala guide your husband as well and then you'll be complete.

Everyone who converts and learns Arabic and does all these difficult things for the sake of Allah is a real servant of Allah may Allah reward you the highest ranks in paradise. I'm very proud of you and love you for the sake of Allah.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The religion (of Islam) is easy, and whoever makes the religion a rigour, it will overpower him. So, follow a middle course (in worship); if you can't do this, do something near to it and give glad tidings and seek help (of Allah) at morn and at dusk and some part of night".
And
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said:
When My servant draws close to Me by the span of a palm, I draw close to him by the cubit and when he draws close to Me by the cubit, I draw close to him by the space (covered) by two armspans, and when he comes to me walking, I go in a hurry towards him.
May Allah guide you to what He loves and is pleased with, make your steps steadfast, and grant you the best of this world and when you meet him.

While I completely understand your desire to give shahadah publicly, you were already a Muslim before it ❤ It is not essential to take shahadah before witnesses nor with Imams or anyone considered "noble" or "high-ranking". Islam is a matter that is between a person and his Lord, so even when you said your shahadah privately with deep conviction, you became Muslim. I think you knew this deep down in your heart :) I hope you are doing well now - you truly deserve it. Take care
