A crazy fact about this show that wasn't revealed until years after it aired, Marc Summers actually has OCD, and yet he still managed to host one of the messiest shows at the time, himself even getting slimed or pied in the face at times too. Serious props to him for remaining such a great host during such a personal struggle.

Another fact revealed later was where they got the term “gak”. When they filmed in Philadelphia, it was the term for an illicit substance. They co-opted it for the slime-like mess, and got it past the censors. Source: NerdWire’s Double Dare video.

Technically this was family double dare, the original incarnation had two kids to a team. Slime was the green shit, gak was the stuff they sold at stores. It came in a little plastic container and you could make fart noises with it, which was awesome as a nineties kid. Also, space camp was one of the big prizes on the original run, which every kid in America wanted to go to. Great video, keep it up!!

YTV had a show (called You Can't Do That On Television!, IIRC) where green slime was poured on anyone who said "I don't know" (they even made that a themed episodic segment, "tricking" someone to say it tho was totally scripted)...tho they often broke that rule/slimed loads of people anyway
I'm pretty sure that predates Nickelodion gack, but I might be wrong

There was literally ZERO Gak involved with Double Dare. The green liquid was referred to as Slime. It originated with the Canadian television show “You Can’t Do That On Television” which was aired on Nickelodeon. Gak was a “Slime” toy marketed by Nickelodeon. It was released at the beginning of the still running Slime toy fad. Known for making fart noises in their splat shaped plastic storage jars.

On the show “Monk”, the titular character had pretty serious OCD but was more or less able to function in the real world (as a cop no less) until his wife was murdered. That’s what I’m saying, that Marc has fairly serious OCD but was still able to work this crazy job in spite of it.

I was HUGE into Double Dare as a kid. I was born in 95, and next to Legends of the Hidden Temple (which god I hope you also loved too because I’d love to see a video on that).
Double Dare was my version of watching Wheel of Fortune on the weekend nights. I always wished I could go onto the show and play and I was so bummed when I found out that the show and the entire studio behind it and all the other awesome 90s game shows was basically taken to a back alley and shot to death.
I always loved the really rare tie games because then both families worked together to try at getting all 8 flags (and unsurprisingly since it’s 8 people working toward one goal instead of 4 i recall them winning a lot.
I loved this show as a kid and I can’t wait to see what others you talk about.
Also yeah that nose mini game was 100% rigged, that single thing was the Dark Souls of 90s game shows…other than the Dark Forest in Legends of the Hidden Temple, that was just straight up “the producers decide you lose now”

Those early Panasonic Hi-Fi VCRs are really good machines. Built like a tank and the audio quality was superb.

Another Great/Funny cartoon, and I love this idea for a sub series about 90's TV Shows. You should do an episode about daytime Court Room TV shows next. From what I remember, they were a very big deal back in the 90's.

I more than agree with the statement TV was better in the 90s, and early 2000s as well, with the peak cut-off point being 2010. There are some modern TV shows that are bangers but those are outliers, majority of shows today suck ass. Also, I had that exact same Panasonic VCR growing up, still have it, it's just lying around somewhere gathering dust

Shit was all over Nickelodeon in the early 20s. I knew about it, but I didn’t know what the green substance is called.

Marc Summers also spells his last name differently. It's actually spelled "Berkowitz". He changed it to avoid association with David Berkowitz, "The Son of Sam".
