For anyone wondering, the solitary movie got a 5.3/10 on IMDb.
gravy is so simple. you want to brown your flour in some oil. when it starts to brown, similar to a roux, then add liguid and seasonings

@ThomasBaluWalter thanks for the additional info. I still have tons to learn. I really appreciate it. BTW, I did heat the drippings first.
@faviv It just goes to show you that people are never satisfied. I even redid the video correctly and they still criticize. Oh well.
If they even knew what goes on in restaurant kitchens.
Do you know what goes on in restaurant kitchens?
@candieyc don't you worry. I appreciate it. I have been really crazy busy. luckily I work from home so I get to see my family no matter how busy I get.
@CaptainSaul18 yes, but I work in my kitchen and I don't have to worry about that.
@Rocdenindy thanks you so much. You will love the story. I promise. It's called the Movie Lovers Series because it's written for people who like to watch movies. When you read it, it feels like your watching a movie and not reading a long book.
@Rovo188 Thats more of an issue if you use the corn starch, as Amylase (an enzyme present in saliva) will breakdown starch into glucose, making the gravy sugary and sweet, which could go either way, Make it taste amazing, or make it taste horrible)
However, if you did bring the gravy close to boil, the Amylase would denature, so you will most likely be okay.
@Kazanu06 nope. never does.
Jack: messes up gravy
Also Jack: makes a new video because he knew he messed up the gravy
Jack once again: messes up the gravy
Jack wtf it's so easy to make gravy. Google "gravy recipe" and just click on the first link you find. NO ONE makes gravy like this, Jack.
@mrkrabz1991 yes. It's a silicone whisk.
@lilawunder95 Yes. soon. We just signed for International distribution. It should be this summer or fall. I will announce it on the show.
I would love a copy of book
looks good
@ThorMaxx room temp can still cause it to clump. The cold water does a better smoothing job. it doesn't have to be ice but it safer then people using tap water.
The perfect gravy is on someone else's channel
i love drippings
@candieyc I was very under the gun in filming and editing and uploading. I had one day to do it all. sorry
Wow amazing redo! YUM!
@Icarus19911991 LOL. He's really been important to my show. His ideas have made the show what it is. I just never thanked him and I thought it was time.
@LeeroyAntiproduct yeah. I know. I am so embarrassed.
Jack!!! Love your cooking episodes. I see everyone else is commenting on the "spoon" issue, so i will leave that alone. My mom always taught me to make a roux with the flour to get rid of the flour taste. Also, you should let the gravy come to a light boil so the gluten in the flour will reach it's full thickening point. "Mamma" says this is so leftovers are not super clumpy.
Keep up the great work. Love the web site as well. Best regards from Kansas!
@gilboypogi because I am in my kitchen and I get to double dip.
gravy with roast beef drippings is the best!
i would love a copy
dude, your stove is immaculately clean.
Wow you learn something new everyday. I never new icewater got the clumps out of flour. No wonder why my gravy is always clumpy.
@Spazman100 LOL. No. I didn't have the correct information on how to do it. The person I got my details from was a complete idiot. :D
@yaoifangirl2009 right now only available on the Kindle App. If nook has the kindle app like the ipad, phone, kindle, ipod touch then yes. it can be put on the nook.
vid starts at 2:50
Jack= my idol.
@gilboypogi Now that's funny.
Sure. I will redo again. Hold your breath. LOLOL
awesome! last year 4 thanks giving i tried doing gravy & it was so transparent? and thin it tasted good but i got the color & consistancy wrong I'll try yourse this year. Thank You jack!
Another good video. I would like a copy but already ordered it for the wife.
The spoon test actually is called "nappe" in culinary terms. Swipe through the coated back of the spoon and watch if (and how fast) the sauce runs together again.
Also if you want to avoid getting lumps, let the drippings get hot first and slowly pour in the cold(!) slurry.
Either way your gravy might taste a little floury. To avoid that, make a roux and use that to thicken the drippings. There should be a lot of videos showing how to do that.
corn starch is soo much better for taste. i would suggest using that next time
I want that book! I love sci-fi books!
Is the thing the you had the whisk on specially for putting your whisk? Or is that just coincidence that it fits there perfectly? lol
I'd be interested in the book. Can't wait for the poutine remake!
hmmm im gona have to try this!! nice one man
*Start at **4:30** for me.*
To complain about Jack putting the spoon in after tasting is probably one of the most ridiculous comments I've read on this channel. It's quite stuck up if you ask me. The people saying this are OBVIOUSLY not home cooks, otherwise they wouldn't be complaining. If you had to cook for your entire family, taste everything, and do the dishes afterwards, you wouldn't say to use another spoon. I understand Jack...ignore these people, they know not.
@EternityEdge - Yes, the yellow stock in a blue bowl had nothing to do with that.
@ThorMaxx If you use Cold liquids, there will be no lumps....Science stuff I guess.....But it works. Cheers
so much better... great job, jack! =)
Hey Jack, mix the flour into the stock?
@crazyperson3245 not here in California
I wanna copy!
@EternityEdge its like that cos the bowl is blue and the stock is yellow
I wanna copy.
I am sure there were people who complained about julia's double dipping but back then, she was on tv, not the internet. lol
@crazyperson3245 I'm pretty sure poutine is available in the northern states, as you're close to the lines things tend to cross over.
@0oo00oo000ooo I watched this video again. You are right. Someone could get VERY ill. How dare he teach people to double dip. I think this video should be taken down immediately! What if all 11,000 or so people that have watched this have double dipped? We must contact the CDC AT ONCE! What if all of this double dipping has caused an epidemic of some sort? Eeeek!
@gilboypogi I'm pretty sure that's pretty good excuse.
Nice cup in the right corner :)
nice video
Instead of flour, you can use cornstarch too in place of it. That way, you don't really get that raw flour taste.
@jak im not complaining! Still enjoyed your vid! Hope u feel better
Thanks for the spoon coating trick to test thickness. The gravy looks great.
i want a copy
JACK YOU HAVE TO REDO THE GRAVY AGAIN.WITHOUT USING THE SAME SPOON.
Butter, flour, stock.. that easy
Ok thx
noooo, beef gravy is the bestt
I don't want a copy, I would appreciate it :)
Your dad never knows when a thing is missing.
yes. and plus, he told people not to boil. if he actually new what he was doing or actually worked in a proper restaurant he would know that all sauces have to be brought back up to a BOIL for at least 15 seconds to be deemed safe by the FDA.
3 dollars for a book? Awesome
count me in!
@gilboypogi I don't see the big deal about him using the same spoon it's not like he works in a restaurant he is going to be serving this to his family or eating it himself
whenever im hungry i watch ure vids.. after that im starving =``(
would LOVE a copy =)
I like your channel!
Keep up the GREAT work!
Larissa
quick question but in the states do you guys eat poutine too? or is just canada because i think in some restraunts in nyc they have poutine
@jamielynnp24 Because, no matter how clean you think your mouth is, you can make somebody VERY sick doing that. If you are okay with that so be it, but he is running a show, teaching people... He cannot be teaching people that is okay.
I'd like a slice of pie?
It's so odd to me when you make the flour mixture with a spoon and all, because here in Denmark we have a general shaker kinda thing in almost every kitchen here that is made for making the flour mixture
TIP- I work as a cook at a mexican restaurant and If i ever use the same spoon to cook and taste i'd be Fired!.. lol
book please
what restaurants have you worked in?
I'd love a copy! Both a romantic AND a geek here! :)
@rosieforst really.
hello from denmark, i would love a copy of the book
What is funny is that they sell it everywhere in Quebec XD
Sorry not sorry but "the perfect gravy" not having a roux with flour and butter....not perfect
It's not like he spat on it... Jack, never mind the people
I'd so like to test this sauce Q_Q
you should try to make biscuit and gravy.
hi jack, my native language is not english so i dont really understand what you mean by chicken drips and stock, can you explain me please?
what about nook colors?
Yep. Heck I work in a restaurant if people knew what went on in the kitchen I doubt half the people would eat there.
Your brother should be arrested
DUDE! YOU NEVER USE THE SAME SPOON THAT WAS IN YOUR MOUTH BACK IN THE GRAVY! Your saliva begins to break down the molecules of the gravy and it thins it out. Also, it's nasty! All in all, you could use a Blonde Roux instead of mixing flour and water. Great job and GB!
isnt it cheaper if you just buy a box of gravy granules?
@jakatak69 they probably do and live in denial and rather criticize good cooks to get the bad feeling about their restaurant
@Rovo188 He would need to drool several 100's of milliliters so that that effect could matter...
I WANT A COPY!!!
Dude what is solitary rated?
@Lillian0813 if you let it simmer long enough, the flour taste will be completely gone.
I want the copy :)
What is chicken drippings 0.0
