I've come up with ingenuitized ideas cleaning my house too with a bad back & hips from an office chair to reduce strain, & in the store I do the same when I can't reach something.

If we were there, my son & I, we would've helped💙💙 he's 6'2", yesterday we were at walmart & without being asked or hesitation he helped someone struggling to pick up a case of water to put in their cart for them. A nice lady too! And he doesn't work there either. It's how people raise their kids, my hubby & I taught our kiddos right. The thing about the items possibly falling over, there's a shelf where the items that fell could be restocked for other customers to obtain.
To add, I'm like you & I don't like to ask for help for multiple reasons. In this scenario I would've told the employee after he told me no, I guess I'll just go grab an umbrella or a broom/mop & knock them off the shelf myself & apologize before hand for the mess I might create 🤷♀️ some of their online order fillers are worse than other customers with their carts. A week ago someone remote controlling their floor cleaner machine was hazing customers. After the 5th time alternating the course I was going to ensure that it was going the opposite direction than me, i finally had enough. I went to the busiest aisle I could find, a couple shelf stockers barricading shelves with their carts & other customers, then purposefully stood in the cleaners path and added up the prices of all my items. The machine & controller finally had enough, & started to back up, go forward multiple times until the sensors on the front & back of the machine wouldn't let it move anymore. I didn't intend to get it stuck, but it did. I giggled as I walked passed it. Then a few minutes later I hear over the intercom, someone needs to manually turn the machine around. They did & it never followed me again🤣🤣🤣🤣

I am 5' 2. I bought a $5 collapsable step stool from Dollar Tree and I take it when I shop anywhere.
