I shot this video in 1982 I think, did anyone spectate or compete? Stages are Pagham, Calbourne "Steps" at Newbarn Farm, and lastly Parkhurst Forest on the Isle of Wight. Hope you enjoy.
This is 1982, my Stepfather was driving the red Escort mk1 at 0:19 He retired on the last stage in Parkhurst Forest with car trouble. The cameraman has captured me and my Mum; I'm the blond kid wearing blue jeans and hoodie, then Ten years old, my Mum is leaning against the Escort in blue jeans & jumper, the other two guys in jeans and white tee's were mechanics. Cheers for sharing.
It was 1982, i was in the TR8. Thanks for putting this up, my one and only trip to the IOW rally, We finished 2nd O/A, David Maslen won it in one of his dads' Gp 4 BD Escorts, he was fortunate though as he went off in one of the Parkhurst [ best stage ] stages and lost 2 mins. Mysteriously that stage later got cancelled. A VERY well run and organised Rally, albeit a tad rough in places.
It was 1982 but Mark was 3rd overall. I was co-driver in car 10 ( Kingswell / Piper 1760cc Mk1 Escort) and we finished on 2247 seconds - 1 second in front of the TR7 on 2248. However we were a local crew and James Kingswell was a farmer so he knew his way around the Islands farm tracks!
I was co driver on this event several times in the late 70's. We drove a Mk1 Cortina (yes really) entered under Ken Dunn/Steve Burton, in the same colours as the Southern Tyres Escort in this clip. We achieved 3rd overall in one of the events. No mean feat against TC Escorts and RS 2000's. I've still got the little cup we won somewhere. Great to see this old footage, shame it wasn't a couple of years earlier. Might have caught us. Thanks for sharing on UA-cam .
These were the good old days using Parkhurst forest and farm tracks.Used to Start at the Old Park Hotel.Arrive Friday, Rally Saturday, Party Saturday evening and ferry home on Sunday.brillant days we will never see again
Loved the island stages ,I managed to get to sit in a metro 6r4 one year in the pits along Forrest road .
