Oh my goodness you saved my life!!! I’m making masks and my needle broke. I replaced it and noticed I had this exact same problem. You guys helped me out so much thank you!!!!
Thank you so much! Our repair store is closed due to COVID-19. I am making scrub caps and masks for nurses, including my daughter. This worked! God Bless You for taking the time to help others.
Life savers! Thank you so much for making and sharing this video, it helped me me to fix my machine problem, the timer was not hooking the thread, so I adjusted thee needle as you show it, thank you so much!!!
I have a machine from this range so good to know, thank you Abi. Love to tinker the timing can be tricky to get it precisely right. Best wishes keep up the good work x
Thank you sooo much for this, as at the moment with the ock down here in UK unable to get my mahine out to the repair shop, will attempt this self repair so I can arry on sewing xxx
Hi, I am somewhat confused ... you did not adjust the timing of the coil but instead the needle position? It is not clear to me why you adjusted the needle position but the tutorial video read "How to fix the timing and ..." Thanks in advance for your clarification.
Great video but sound a bit low. I have messed my machine up completely because I altered a screw inside and now it won't sew properly this video shows what I should have done in the first place wish I had seen it first! Thanks great video!!
dont forget to keep your allen key in and hold it still when you are happy with the setting and then tighten up that silver locking nut. otherwise it will vibrate to a different position.
Hi there wondering if you could help I have a singer confidence 7470 I know that the timing out I taken the casting out when I turn hand wheel the hook not catching the tread witch be should l be looking at inside machine to correct this I’m clueless Thanks
This seems contradictory. You move the allen screw one way just far enough so the needle isn't hitting the hook, but then it's hitting the plate. So then you rotate the same allen screw the other way until it's centered again. Would the needle be right back to hitting the hook again?
Yes and I could hear it click on each stitch. Since the timing seemed good, I'd think there'd be another misalignment somewhere. I have one of these machines and it's a great performer but if it starts clicking I'll tear it down and see what other adjustments are available. The unit could have been dropped and tweaked, too, we really don't know. I like their discovery and logic about the bar assembly, though - good work.
I have the same singer confidence machine. It sew straight great but can not sew zig zag and skipped zig zag. I didn't hear it touch the hook? Should I fix the same your video guide?
No, no. Your machine has a different issue. Your needle may not be fully inserted or the wrong needle is used for your fabric. At very worst, the timing is out , that’s a different video
Hi there! I've just followed this in moving the needle forward and fixing the timing but now I'm being displayed an 88 error message. Do you know why this may be? I'm gonna give it another go tomorrow but your help would be greatly appreciated!
Hey Connor, I found this : Flashing lights, beeping sound are error signs its posiibly the upper tension path is not threaded correctly. Check that the transparent thread path located at the top of the machine is threaded correctly. Hold thread in both hands and slip under transparent thread guide. While holding the thread securely, pull the thread towards you and then slip it back and forth like you were flossing. You should hear or feel two clicks as the thread slips past the thread guides.
This tutorial would be perfect if it also included the process of disassembly and needle timing. I’m currently trying to adjust the timing on my mother’s machine. She has a Singer Confidence 7470.
I have just seen your video about the visit to the Longsite Market. I would really like to make a trip over to it but, are there any car parks near to it please. or is it a long way from Piccadilly station?
There is One right behind the market. Looked after by the market supervisor. I left my lights on and they called me via Tanoy. If you catch the 192 bus from Piccadilly, it’ll take you straight to the market, ask the bus driver to let you know, it’s very straight forward and not too far x
I also have 5560. It was breaking thread. Needle was hitting the plate. But something is thumping in the bobbin case, not every time the needle goes down, but whenever I sew faster. It sounds terrible. My husband and I are trying to figure out how to correct the timing. Will post when we get it fixed. I replaced my needle, which helped with the thread breaking.
Love all of your videos.. but I cannot hear you clearly on any device, so I try to guess what you are actually saying.. wish you had captioning on your videos.. great sewing Abi :)
the t shaped screwdriver in the accessories box should allow you to lift the bobbin plate out. Use the narrow end to loosen then upside down for less fiddling. Regular posi screwdrivers will open the casing screws. Mostly need access to needle shift, so one screw on that end of the machine and one at the back halfway down the casing. If you need to remove the inner slice, so to speak, the narrow part the thread follows down on its right and up its left to the hook at the top of the needle shaft. You'll need the tiny thin screwdrivers. Be careful as the screws come out, they can be hard to catch and then fall into the machine, especially those last 2. When putting them back, of the latter2 the smallest goes forward to just catch, then the bigger goes to the top but take care not to overtighten that or it will press against the tension plates. Learnt that the hard way.
I think if you’re fairly confident to be tackling this you may already be able to take the casing off. I don’t have the machine anymore to demonstrate but I’ll bear it in mind for the future. I just like showing interesting parts of the repair work. Taking the case off is straight forward
@@AbisDen You say this, but I'm very mechanically inclined and yet I'm stuck trying to get the cover/casing off...I took off the needle rod cover on the left but thats it...
If the needle isn’t in the correct position, it can’t pick up the thread as it goes round. That’s the timing issue. There are a few causes of incorrect timing. In this instance, needle position
Would someone please SUBTITLE this (preferably at the top, large font, high contrast) for the hearing impaired? Auto-captioning is absolutely atrocious. This is an all-too-common problem that creators don't seem to realize is an issue. Admittedly, most of them probably hear well.
You’re absolutely correct. But some ‘creators’ don’t have the skill set. Just because I can sew doesn’t mean I know how to use the damn computer. I’ll try 🥰
Hi. Finally i found a Singer with this problem. Mine is a 298 FashionMaker. I have the same problem - the needle is hitting the back of the plate, without the plate grazes the shuttle. I'm unable to figure out how to align this. Any ideas please how to fix mine. I've uploaded a video of what my problem is here - ua-cam.com/video/amrMaeDA9gA/v-deo.htmlsi=KDh9iSVWWP32hP5z
I've watched hours of sewing machine repair videos in an effort to fix my machine, and yours was by far the most helpful! Thank you!

@@AbisDen how did you open that
Only video I could find to help me solve this problem. Thank y'all so much!
The hook was grabbing the WHOLE needle! Talk about a nightmare!
Glad it helped!
Very good video, I can fix my brother machine watching your video. Thank you very much
Glad to hear that

Your amazing!!!!! I was about to throw the machine out. I’m going to try this asap
Great video. I’m having the same problem but with my singer heavy duty and I can’t find the the adjustment hole.
Great video, same problem here, you guys rock! thanks !

Could you give us more timing help with more machines. I think a lot of us could do it ourselves with help. Thanks.
Yeah, I'd like to know how to remove the casting. I'm stuck at that point.

What do you do if the needle isnt hitting the hook but is instead scraping along that white plastic bottom of the bobbin housing
The needle needs lifting and that's done using the screw in the needle shaft. you can access it by removing the light bulb cover.x Good Luck x
Very interesting. Thank you.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Is it applicable on xl 550 model .
Becoz my machine needle is not in centre
Kindly, the alignment (bobbin hook position) for this Brother NQ3600D please.
How does this fix the timing issue please? Also how do you get into the machine?

My needle hits the presser foot and it breaks, should i do the same?

I believe the issue was with the shaft being too far down rather than the needle to hook clearance.

I’ve learned to do that in the newer videos. I thought I was loud until I started making videos. Apologies
How do you fix a turn knob that stopped working on a singer confidence 7469?
I would need more information than that. There could be lol sorts of reasons so I suggest take it to a repair shop to have a Look
Neither my husband nor I can figure out how to take the outer covering off of this machine. Can anyone give us a hint? LOL!
