What a touching love story of this fine couple through this journey series. It's very honest. No glamorous makeup ; no pretensions. I feel so sad whenever Tim shares that the Pru he knew well is almost gone. And I love how spunky Pru is with new experiences. Blessings to them both. ✨ A love story on many levels!

There are several series of Great Canal Journeys now, try searching for them 👍 Series 9, episode 3 was the one I have waited for since this splendid series began. The Bridgewater Canal episode begins in the idyllic village of Worsley, where I live. I pass through Worsley twice a day travelling to and from work. It is the best Canal series ever.

@@chris-cole I will most certainly look for it. Thank you so much - I thought Series 4 was the last. Thrilled to find out that there are more. I may skip the others and go straight to series 9 ep 3 because I would love to see what the Bridgewater Canal and the village of Worsley look like today.

Stunning documentation of a journey, not only the celebration of 50 years of marriage. But to bring back memories of time gone by. Loved all the journey. Thank you for allowing us the honor of witnessing.

These two lovely people should be an example for all of us. Because of my age (63) and the fact that I fall in love with my current wife (since 2010) who is 23 years younger we probably can´t celebrate our 50th year of marrige. But nevertheless staying together and loving each other is such a romantic thing ! Thanks for aal the canal journeys. God Bless. kind regards, Bert fron The Netherlands

With dementia one does not go away nor is the person so much changed. It is more that there is a fog settled over the processing ability of the individual suffering from dementia. This fog effects both the interior of the person suffering and those who relate to that person. To manage the fog it is important to extend the time for processing and the time others expected procession take place in. More time must be given to finding ones thoughts through the fog of the brain and getting those thoughts out to others. The person is still there and is often little or not at all changed. The change is in the time needed to process and the amount of information that can be taken in at any one time and realization that recent events may not have had the level of time or stimulus or association to set in the memories. My wife and I have seen several elder family members through this stage.

    @ Dottie Dig
People seldom have appreciation for the challenges faced by family members who have loved ones who struggle with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia's. It can be incredibly tiring and trying and that sometimes can come out as being short or impatient. His worry is about her and when you are in that kind of position, you are always looking for the next sign or indication that things may be getting worse. Maybe you should try being a little more sympathetic and considerate. Bear in mind, he is in his 80's as well. At that age, it can be hard enough to keep yourself going much less care for person who is suffering from a condition such as Prunella has. I had to deal with both my parents in the final stages of their lives suffering from mental impairments as a primary caregiver and I can tell you that it was exhausting both physically and emotionally and I am a hell of a lot younger than Mr. West. Think a bit more before you start calling people jerks!

You know, the word 'luvvie'' is commonly used nowadays as a snide and derogatory term for actors. A series like this one shows us that it is actually a compliment.

  • @birdiedog5

Tim could be a little more sympathetic and considerate of Pru's memory problem. He's just worried that she will embarrass him in front of people. What a jerk. Otherwise he seems ok, aside from the occasional inappropriate comment, such as in the last episode when he said working class should be kept separate from rich people.

    • @guzziventure1750

+Dottie Dig "such as in the last episode when he said working class should be kept separate from rich people".
He expressed the way of thinking of rich people, not his own. He meant it cynically.

Dottie Dig on the contrary, we are all guilty of being short tempered and frustrated with life in general let alone a condition that leaves him frustrated with the fact that he knows she can canal tasks with her eyes shut yet because of age and dementia she actually struggles. I am more than sure he has supported her throughout their married life and careers. my wife has MS so I am all too aware of being frustrated at the situation and not necessarily the individual.

He actually addresses this problem with his son in this very programme. If you pay attention to what he says and how he says it, you will realise that he is emphatically not a "jerk".
