What's crazy to me is I didn't actually watch all of this. I *listened*. I watched maybe the first 15 minutes before drifting off to do chores, but I still listened and comprehended content that I would not have sat through otherwise. It just.. comforted me that the dogs were there
Somebody actually took up John Oliver's suggestion seriously. Epic. I can't watch this. I'm laughing too much. Next time you should add the name of the Chief Justice each dog is supposed to represent.
OK. The dotted brown one is Chief Justice Roberts, the bespectacled chihuahua is RBG, the bull terrier is Justice Kagan, the Rottweiler is Thomas, the bulldog is Scalia, Justice Alito is the big black poodle, the beagle is Justice Breyer, Kennedy is the boxer, and Sotomayor is the small French bulldog.
Is this not the original skit posted by Last Week Tonight on their own channel when the episode first aired, like they referenced? I can't find it on their channel like they said, but it is old and could have been purged...
Well they clearly are not, they provide you with antenas, they do not create content on their own. They don't choose what local broadcasters broadcast.
Just based on the arguments here, I think Aereo should have won this case. That last statement by the ABC lawyer was a cheap shot. Aereo's consumers have access to local TV over the airwaves/antenna, but they don't necessarily have an HBO subscription, so the hypothetical of Aereo transferring HBO to consumers is entirely different. Ginsberg seemed to put unreasonable emphasis on the "user experience".
When's the next Court case gonna be? John Oliver's debating between a few dogs to play the newest court justice, and I want to get an idea of when we're going to find out which one will get the honor.
damn! this made learning about supreme court precedence more interesting! thankyou North MetroTv! why dont we have this 10 years ago? i would pass my supreme court ruling comparisons with flying colors! :'(
I found it interesting that the more conservative-leaning justices were the ones that dissented in favor of Aereo. After reading both Breyer's statement and Scalia's dissent, I find them both convincing. While I'm not a dog person, I'm glad that John Oliver made it known to me that these audio recordings existed.
On the one hand, the Sony decision seems like it's being misapplied by Aereo - grabbing something OTA and recording a copy would, at the time of the decision, have limited this recorded IP to hard copies only in the recorder's home. Now, while forming a media repository from which any consumer could access all of the media ever digitized would be very efficient in a "that way only one organization needs to host the files" sort of way, that doesn't seem to protect the IPs directly. All of that is veeeery debatable, but it really does seem like unlicensed on-demand streaming is a public performance in the sense that it is very many individual performances all at the same time at any given time. The same argument could be made for any widely available broadcast which consumers have the option of viewing. I'm not a fan of the large corporate win, but I think I have to side with them on this one by virtue of technicality. The message ABC needs to take from this is that they need to keep abreast of new technology in a timelier fashion so that their products are available at all times for streaming. That way there isn't any market for a cloud-based DVR as such. That'd be the free market solution, but I guess the larger broadcast companies are too lazy to improve their product, so they litigate. Not unlike Hershey with their Cadbury kibosh a while ago. Shout out to the editor, who did a terrific job here!
NorthMetroTV You could probably cut "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" from your title, you reference the source in the video, and the hashtags reference back to the show. Better to make your video stand out by highlighting the unique content and editing you are delivering, in this case the Aereo case. This is likely one of the most interesting cases for the audience on UA-cam. Thank you for putting this together. The Supremes should be pleased they're getting some more broad based attention without it being vitriolic.
And that's how people lose their rights, no interest in what happens in the supreme court is the type of mentality that will eventually take many freedoms away from you and your future children. The reality is that... Who am I kidding?! This shit is boring as fuck, I can't take it anymore. MAKE IT STOP!!! lol

This is the best thing in the entire world
Holy Jesus, the editing work must have taken MONTHS!
This is admirable in its silliness, and should be an art installation.
I love the Justice Alito dog and he just randomly bangs his hands on the podium.

Finally, uncut proceedings!
And a great case, too.
This is amazing. John Oliver brought me here... :-P Dogs rule! More please!
Wow. John was right.. kudos to all involved for making this and giving me motivation to listen to more of these
Thank you so much
They got a very quiet still dog to portray Justice Thomas.
YES!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!
If only these were our Chief Justices! A random lick in the face could go far to change rigid minds.
Still watching 😊
how did I just listen to all of that?
The dog effect my PC friend...
Great job and my full respect to you! I hope this will catch on and without people like you starting this up, it wouldn't so thanks!
Magnificent
That was great but you should include the case name in the video title
I appreciate that you did this.
Goddamn, this case argument is so... special.
Awesome, just awesome.
This is hilarious!
Oh my god it actually is a full hour
Can I just say this is a really fascinating back and forth? And that the company very clearly is in fact a cable company.
Well they clearly are not, they provide you with antenas, they do not create content on their own. They don't choose what local broadcasters broadcast.
You guys kick ass.
@2:30 Brilliant!
I can't believe someone actually did this.
OH MY GOD YES
Brilliant

You actually watched this? Please go away.
baddoggie101 Nice one.
baddoggie101 IT had 11 puppies, of course people watched it, PUPPIES
+Kyle Huston The majority of the information is actually in written briefs, I agree the oral argument helped Aereo, but the briefs probably won it.
When's the next Court case gonna be? John Oliver's debating between a few dogs to play the newest court justice, and I want to get an idea of when we're going to find out which one will get the honor.
First one I found. Well done.

John Oliver where in the hell are you getting all of these dogs for your show.
There was the King Charles from last week too.
Just too funny

Best form of legal education
Too bad no one does this anymore with the dog court. Not that i see at least
Lower thirds!!!

Great job. Please let me know if your company is hiring. I edited the Hobby Lobby V. Obamacare video.
Great minds think alike.

I am Will Neaverson, and I approve this message.
can you add "Aereo" to the title so this is more easily searchable?
Thanks for the idea. Adding "Aereo" unfortunately makes our title too long, but I have made sure to add it to the description and tags.

the disclaimer at the beginning talking about the respect of the supreme court was unnecessary.
Good lord this was a lot of work to do in a day.
AWESOME! BUT.... can you add name titles to each animal, so we can see which judge is speaking at any given time? Thanks!
Oh, lordy, lord, lord, lord, help me!! I can't listen to any more of this BS!!!
