It's neat how the Dyson circuitry can manage the lower battery voltage by upping the current...pulse width power transfer I'm guessing. I used the Makita adapter and made my own 9aH 18V battery using sony VT6 3aH cells in a 5s3p configuration. The results are similar to yours with an approx 50% increase in run times. Battery stays fairly cool but the V8 motor gets quite hot.
Thanks bro. I really appreciated the confirmation that the vacuum will no longer fit in the charger. I gotta find another way to store it before I pull the trigger #apartmentlife
Which has better suction? One of the handheld Dysons, or a 18v vacuum from a brand like Milwaukee or DeWalt? I don't mind upgrading the battery on the Dyson. I guess the other concern would be things like weight/size/accessories/noise/cost
Good video although I would like to know if any of the Dyson or cordless hoovers can be modified to accept and be run by mains 240 volt or an adapter to reduce to the voltage for the motor as this may be even lighter than having a battery at the base attached at all
Yes I thought about this mod too. Get a 300W Lenovo gaming laptop AC to DC adapter, the voltage should be within the 20V range, cut the cord and use a DeWALT battery placeholder then it should be able to power this vacuum.
Great with the Dewalt batteries I have, my Dyson battery doesn’t hold the charge properly and it’s great to swap n go the Dewalt battery if it’s goes flat. That attachment is only good if u got power tools and a couple of batteries
Power stack batteries have the same connection locking points as the XR/ Lithium batteries. It’ll work no problem. It’s made for all the same tools, the battery chemistry is the only difference.
The original Dyson battery has 6 cells 22v , wonder when you use a 5 cells 18v is compatible , or a weaker voltage 18v 5 cells battery will not make the vacuum run strongly as it should ??
It will not work on the high setting at all. Do not use this setup. I have struggled with it for a while now. I have tried every DeWalt battery made. They do not work like they are supposed to.
Thanks for the video, I think this adapter is no more available, I bought one from Amazon, it works but only 6-7 seconds on high mode. Not fulfilling the purpose as I have to wait few seconds then I get another 6-7 seconds of run time. Please advise details of your adapter it looks like it continuous runs for 16 minute on high mode with 6AH battery
Buy a DeWalt drill set and two battery’s for it . Thank me later 😊 it’s all very handy around the home and will last for ever . I still have the second gen of dewalt lithium batts still going strong all 7 🔋 of them after 9 years of site abuse every day of the working week and sometimes at weekends they still all good . So yeh buy some dewalt for that hover it’s gonna be gold for you.
The 6a/h battery has 5 cells in series ( to build the voltage up to 20.5 max) it also has 2 rows parallel so thats 10 cells altogether. The 2a/h battery has the same 5 cells in series, but only a single row so 5 cells altogether. In the 10 cell battery, the large demand from the motor is shared by 2 rows of cells , which dramatically reduces the demand from the cells .
@@stestar09 I noticed a lack of power with my 2a/h battery, but I saw another problem my dyson V8 battery is 21.6v and my DeWalt battery is an european 18v. So following your explanation should I need to take a 6a/h DeWalt flexvolt battery (18v-54v) to not have any lack of power ? Thanks for your help.
The Dyson battery are 6 Li-Ion cells in series resulting in 21.6v. nominal. The DeWalt batteries are nominal 18v. (5 cells in series). They market them as 20v because in the USA they pretty much can say any bullshit they want. So you are actually under-powering the Dyson if you use DeWalt batteries.
I changed mine. Put a new fully charged Makita accu in it and its doesn’t work. When I push the trigger the LED turns Green but it won’t go on. I have the V8. Any tips?
@@CynicAtheist There is ZERO difference between 18V and 20V, it's just marketing. They use 5 cells. The nominal voltage of one cell is 3.6V. It's MAXIMUM is a bit over 4V. Minimum generally considered to be 3V
maybe a better test would have been to put the vacuum cleaner under load, instead if just sucking in air, no doubt the battery won't last as long when its actually being used on the floor

Remover the charger plug. Just pops out.
great review. I knew what battery/amp to buyt after seeing this video. Thanks
My pleasure.
I agree.. lots of issues for me with the original battery holding much of a charge. 15 to 20 minutes and dead frequently.
Do you have the DeWALT adapter too?
I need one of these. Fed up with Dyson batteries wearing out and not lasting!

Is there a working adaptor for worx too
Not sure.

No idea

@@willlord3469 for me, it works on high setting. you probably got a bad adapter or old batteries.
Is the V8 absolute any better? Also will a 60 flexvolt Dewalt battery work? 12 amp flexvolt safe to use?
V8 is an old model. I heard 60v flexvolt is compatible with 20V so it should work.
Can you charge the drill battery through the dyson?
No it can’t

I didn't test the original one because it has gone bad.
Can you test with the new Dewalt Powerstack 5Ah batteries?
I don’t have that one

Your adapter link is not for a dewalt battery
The Amazon listing has been changed by the seller. I will have to update it.
thank you brother

What do you think with a DeWalt 5AH, 20V battery - maybe 45 - 50 minutes on low power?
Yes
Probably only about 35-40 minutes since the 6Ah battery uses significantly more capable 21700 cells vs. the 5Ah 18650 cells.

how can 2ah hold up for only 3 mins? if 6ah can do 16, isn't 2ah should be around 5-6 mins?
awesome video by the way, done proffecially
I think there are 2 reasons:
1. The 2ah battery is 3 years old.
2. 2ah will not be sustain high discharge as long.

Im not sure how accurate this could be as it doesn't include the resistance of the surface you're cleaning?
Good point
The Dyson battery can’t hold for the times of 1/2 small room I’m so disappointed
Get a new one.
The Dyson might deliver 400 W with its original battery, it won't with an 18 V one. Back-of-the-napkin math says over 100 W less...
