If you don't think Speed is the fastest-moving adventure film ever made, we challenge you to find a faster one. Keanu Reeves stars as an LA Bomb Squad specialist whose principal antagonist is elusive bomber-extortionist Dennis Hopper. Seeking vengeance after his latest ransom scheme is thwarted, Hopper presents a personal challenge to Reeves: A wired-for-destruction city bus, which will detonate if the speedometer drops below 50 MPH. Playing the reluctant civilian who is pressed into service as the bus' "substitute driver," leading lady Sandra Bullock became a major star in her own right. Speed is an absolute thrill. It’s easily one of the best edited movies of all time. I’m glad it received an Oscar nomination for Best Film Editing.

This is a timeless pure action film. Idc if we now have robots being humans or people flying, this scene alone emotes intensity and true danger while being violently ripped outta blissful ignorance. Great fudging film

Yes. Even more amazing was that this was the first movie directed by Jan de Bont (who previously was the cinematographer for the original "Die Hard") and Keanu Reeve's first lead action role. This movie was fresh and original and I loved all the vehicle stunt work.
The decision by Keanu's character to destroy the front door of the car he is driving so that he can jump onto the bus is so original and why I love the movies - you can't do this or even see this in real life but it sure is fun seeing it on screen!

Watching blockbusters like this on the daily with my pops as a child after he got home from work in the early evening was a precious time in my life I won't ever let go of. It's something you wish you can go back and just relive. Ahh the 90s and blockbuster films. What a time to be alive.

I'm watching this movie in 2017 and it stands the test of time. And this is one of those 'bit parts' that an actor absolutely OWNED making it so much more than just 'some guy' a guy getting his car stolen. He brought that character to life. So shocked he hasn't popped up elsewhere. Anyone seen him in anything else?

Jeff Daniels was called Harry on 2 films in 1994. Harry on Dumb And Dumber and Speed.
I have a theory. Harry Temple was a police officer who was smart and brave, but was sent to Howard pain's house to see if he was there and was thrown into a trap where the house blew up killing all the officers in the house, but what the movie did not show is that that Harry was the only one who survive not without injuries though. He seemed to to have suffered from permanent memory lose and because of the shock wave of the explosion caused him to lose his intelligence as well. While he is in the hostpial a new patient is put in his room and become roommates. The new patient turns out to be non other than Lloyd Christmas who would later become Harry's best friend who is as dumb as he is. They now Reside in Providence, Rhode Island where Harry lives now as Harry Dunne. Harry has not gained his memory back

The second could have been good if they made a better plot. The idea of a cruise boat never struck me as fast or speedy yet they still went with it. For some reason God knows why they lowered the intelligence of Sandra bullock's character. Jason Patrick failed to properly replace Keanu reeves. Acting was piss poor. For me the only good thing about speed 2 was Willem Defoe because it he was entertaining. Movies like the matrix and movies that have interesting characters and potential successful universes have a better reason to have sequels, but the bus blew up in speed, pain lost his head. The only way they can have a third movies is if they bring back Keanu reeves and maybe have a plot that connects to the first movie and mostly ignores the second movie. At the same time though it is fun to watch this movie and make fun of it

This was the first movie I watched of Keanu back in 99.
I keep thinking about what the monumental moments in iconic 90s films are. I'm always certain that Titanic has to be part of the discussion, along with Independence Day, The Matrix, Terminator 2, Toy Story, Jurassic Park, Pulp Fiction, etc.
But then there's moments like this that I sorta forget about for a while but as soon as I see them it's like OK that makes the list!

Absolutely love this movie until this day! It's been almost 30 years in this is my go-to movie! I absolutely love the cast especially Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and Jeff Daniels. This movie was absolutely incredible when the time it came out and it has standed the test of time. I can't forget Dennis Hopper, .R I. P. Keanu Reeves is an excellent actor and I can't wait for his future projects!
