Thank you! I’m sitting now in a cafe in Nairobi wondering if my casual obsession is shared - that is, is it fleeting? Who wants to see gentle footage of wild hyrax… frequently?🤣🤣
It's great to see the hyrax snacking and chilling, I love it when they perch on the hut! Can't wait to see more of your recovered footage, and new footage from the trees.
just read the description, I hope their numbers grow in the future😢 Its sad to know that there is one sole survivor from that family in the video but thank you for keeping it real as always. Wish you all the best on your endeavors🎉!
Thank you so much! Yeah I can’t believe we lost ALL of the elder males. They must have been protecting so much and put themselves at risk. Or they got gluttonous and slow🤣🤣
I love the way they're completely used to you now. And there's hardly a more lovely sight than a hyrax eating a flower (except maybe when they fight - btw I didn't know the hair round their dorsal glands goes up quite that much!). Also, you got some wonderful shots of different poses, including the ones that demonstrate how they have so many vertebrae in their backs. Just one thing: put links in your video description!
That is awesome that you run a charity. I'd love to see the links to your charity as well as Patreon and anything else in your About and video descriptions. Thank you for running that and all the great hyrax content!
Oh ok! I guess I thought I could link everything in the video but I don’t have those creator tools until I get more watch hours? Maybe I can put links in the description…
Hello, I have a question about these little guys! I just found your channel so I haven’t seen very many videos, but from what I’ve noticed they tend to blink with their nictitating membrane but when they sleep their eyes are properly closed. Is it because the membrane is transparent so, as prey animals, they’re not “looking away” (ie closing their eyes) ever unless they feel safe enough to sleep?
I don’t think they properly close their eyes hardly at all. I think they sleep with them open. I rarely see them with eyes closed. Apparently they have the lowest rem sleep of nearly any animal.
What’s up sister!? Still not even halfway to the watch hours I need. I don’t know how to make hyrax footage interesting for more than 2 minutes!@&%*# I can watch them out my window ALL DAY. But video loses the magic pretty quick. I need 1 hour of them taking dirt baths. The wiggle might hook people in longer.
@@squiggythehyrax oh I totally get the whole ‘watching them from your window all day’ thing.. Once, we drove out of town to visit a zoo with rock hyraxes (both Cape rock hyraxes and bush hyraxes-I’m not entirely sure about the exact names, but you know, the ones around your hut and the slightly chubbier ones). Our plan was to spend about an hour there, but we ended up staying for 3.5 HOURS! We just loved spending time with those fuzzy potatoes. The best part of watching them at the zoo was when one baby hyrax jumped down to the ground. While it was trying to climb back up to join its mom and siblings, a Cape ground squirrel kept running after it and trying to get it to play. The squirrel was like that overly excited friend who just has to be involved, even if it’s not the right time. :D After about 20 stealthy attempts to quietly get around the squirrel, the mini hyrax finally managed to leap back up to its family. It was hilarious and so cute to watch! 🐿️🤣 As for watch hours-you’ll absolutely get there! We’re supporting you by playing your hyraxlist daily on two TVs from both of our Premium accounts. We really believe in you and are rooting for your success.
What a hairy elephant!

Anyone notice at around 4:31 the fur on their backs? They puff themselves up like a cat does except... It's just a little patch of fur on the back.
