2 Good Laps - Thunderhill 5-Mile - 22-08-29 FTD - B-Group

The Thunderhill 5-Mile track! Each lap is a marathon, with almost too much detail to remember -- at least 31 turn apexes (depending how how you count turns), over a wide variety of elevation, visibility, track camber (transverse slope) and type of surface.
The combined 5-Mile track is a lot more than just East plus West. A good 1/3 to 1/2 of that distance is altered from either track, in terms of lines, pace, planning, visibility, follow-through etc. The 5-Mile really is its own track experience.
It was a blistering hot day and atmospheric pressure was low, so full-bore max speeds were a little off for me. But the track surface was blazing hot and traction was good.
In terms of lap times, I'm near the bottom of B-Group. And lacking tire warmers, my first lap is always deliberately slow, to get tires, wheels, bike and myself warmed up. But I did manage to keep lap times below 4 minutes for more than 2/3 of my hot laps.
Sure, I get passed a lot. But as long as I'm not an inconsistent road hazard and faster riders can pass me safely, getting passed means I have a lot of opportunities to learn better technique, every session of the day. This was definitely a learning day, for me...
