The contribution of the DK to punk music is the high political content and theatricality tied to intelligent and thoughtful irony. In this song Jello demonstrates this perspective and all his creative power. I love it for ever and ever.
Dead Kennedy’s are the perfect music for a zombie apocalypse. Every time I drove into San Francisco, I put on the dead Kennedy’s. It’s the perfect soundtrack.
So just to clarify for you guys, 'Cowboy Ronnie' refers to Ronald Reagan. The song was an attack on Reagan's regime and its use of the Cold War to stoke peoples' fears, nationalism, and defense contractor profits.
You guys need to listen some more to the dead Kennedys…. It takes time for it to grow on you but when it finally has, you are going to love the music and the lyrics 😊… DK is one of my favourite bands and has been for 30 years now and Biafras lyrics are still relevant in this day and age 👍🏻 thanks for the video
(Groan). That line is from an incident where U.S.- backed guerrillas torched some nuns who were offering humanitarian aid to the people, in Central America either in Nicaragua or El Salvador.
Dead kennedys are tight. It would be nice if you guy's can do some Mexican punk like Vomito nuclear- su santidad . i really think you guy's will like it . no doubt.
Hard to like DK on 1st, 2nd even 3rd listen, Jello's voice is kind of annoying (you get use to it, it is punk) but his lyrics are funny, sharp and witty + Reagan and his admin fucking hated DK so they achieved their mission haha
Nice Good heh way to educate oneselves this way as DK definitely were maybe the most important (at least) American hardcore-punk band ever. Maybe you could have chosen a more faster up-tempo song from the A-side of this Amazing record or Riot from B-side, but still nice introduction to my all time fave band Dead Kennedys (for some of your viewers too). Of more almost metallic sounding very very good American hardcore from the early 80´s, I think you should (all) check out and react (publicly or at least privately :-) ) to any track from Crucifix - Dehumanization lp Wow! And why not also imho The best ever hardcore-metal crossover (S.O.D. style that´s it) from USA or anywhere else, go ahead and start listening to Crumbsuckers - Life of Dreams (from 1986), you Will definitely like it, I can easily set all my playing marks on that one. :-)
Can tell how much the guy in the Slayer tshirt is enjoying the music! Plastic Surgery Disasters is my favorite record of all time... Would love to see you react to some other songs like "Government Flu" "Well Paid Scientist" or "Buzzbomb"!!!! Or just react to all of them... they're only 2 minutes long each!!!
From Northern Ireland , remember at our school being introduced to Fresh Fruit album which I rushed out a bought on vinyl, there only was vinyl or tape. Second album plastic surgery disasters was just as good, also In God we trust, brilliant. Would have loved to see them play but our local band was Stiff Little fingers, first album and nobody's heroes I can highly recommend as they went to my school. Listen to Suspect Device by SLF......
ALSO CHECKOUT - THE DEAD BOYS - YOUNG LOUD AND SNOTTY. CLASSIC, RUDE AND CRUDE. THERES A VIDEO OF THEM, LIVE AT CBGB”S. AWESOME. SINGER BLOWS HIS SNOT ALLOVER THE STAGE. LOUD FOREBODING BAND.
The singer, Jello, jokingly ran for mayor of San Francisco back in 1981 I think. He ended up with 3 percent of the vote. He went on Phil Donahue to debate Tipper Gore regarding music censorship. One of the reasons the Dead Kennedys broke up was because of a lawsuit accusing them of putting out a pornographic record due to its cover. It stemmed from some parent who got upset her kid bought a record that showed male genitalia on the cover. Turns out it was considered art after all. It only cost a buttload of money to fight the suit. So they won but they also kind of lost.

A British critic said that Jello's voice sounded like a cat stuck in a dryer.

This song is about a political prisoner being tortured.
Guitar player from Slayer was a fan of DK!
