Sara Ishikawa was my thesis chair at Cal Berkeley. Great architect. Better person. Excellent book for thinking about, prioritizing, ordering (designs), planning
Thanks for the review, I'm writing a thesis about Christopher Alexander and am trying to grasp the whole idea of his work. This gave me a good idea and now I want to read the book for my own consumption!
Yeah, both books give broad guidelines on how to design. A Pattern Language is less linear and aims to interlink various principles and practices between themselves. For example if you read on designing Small Public Squares, at the end of the chapter you are advised to read on Pedestrian Density, Hierarchy of Open Space or even on abstract notions like 'Something Roughly in The Middle'.

This is kind of what I was hoping this book was, a map of good design. I came across this book in a guide for Satisfactory, definitely buying it.

This book seems almost like scripture to me. The Patterns constantly remind us to always design and build with human beings in mind.
It's sounds like Francis ching book form space and order
