RESCUING A PUPPY FROM ABROAD: We rehomed a dog from Cyprus

- Something a little different from me today but a memory I want to keep and share nonetheless. Here is our recent journey to rehoming Loki 🐾
You may know if you are familiar with the channel that we already have a rescue dog from Dogs Trust called Pepper. She is 11 years old so not quite a young pup anymore and we knew it was the right time for us to add another set of paws to the house.
We opted for a puppy from abroad for a number of reasons (I did film myself talking through them but the video ended up being more than 40 minutes long so they got cut!) - we are mostly just so happy to have been able to give this little street pup a loving home.
We adopted Loki (was Harrison) through a charity called D.O.G Rescue Cyprus and I cannot recommend them enough. You can find their Facebook group here: / dogrescuecyprus

Wow well done you and your family, I got nervous for you lol seeing all they dogs waiting to go to forever homes was both happy and sad but it was lovely to see that he has settled in so well can’t wait for more pup dates x
Wow I didn’t realise how many dogs came from abroad seeing them all waiting for there flight was so emotional. Loki is so cute! We have the frog too for our little lady xx

Yay! He looks so happy. Thank you for doing all your research and jumping through the hoops to adopt him. I started fostering right before quarantine started so I've been exposed to a lot more info on things like this existing as well, where I'd never heard much before. It's really interesting, like how island strays often are reliant on transport with helpful tourists to get to the mainland in order to get adopted. Transport in general has been wild as well right now like you mention from all the restrictions, one of the shelters I am connected with had to fundraise for a private plane to do a hurricane mass rescue, they couldn't get them out on normal planes because of it all..
I honestly had no idea before we started the process. He actually came over on a chartered plane, with about 500 other dogs in total from a number of charities; which is just insane! But they were in the same boat. No flights since March and so many dogs waiting to get to their new homes 🤍
He is so gorgeous! We are looking at doing the same - did you have a follow up visit or did it not happen? x

Ah that’s the DEFRA one, we didn’t, I don’t think it’s mandatory but they *may* make a spot check. I’d say with covid they’ve been doing fewer anyway.

Get a dog from the UK, charity starts at home.
Unfortunately, we approached a number of UK based charities and they would not rehome a dog with us due to the age of our children. This is despite us being experienced dog owners, and having a dog from a well known UK charity already. Unless these charities rethink their policies, many people will find themselves in the same situation as us.
I am so happy for you all. It seems your dog got along with the new one okay? I cried because he looked so happy and you just have to think about all those dogs who don't get good homes.

Amazing! Hope it all goes well. Loki is doing brilliantly. We adopted a further puppy from Cyprus (Darcy) the following year, and they are a little duo 🥰
Whats the obsession with getting a pup, and dogs from abroad? There's so many dogs that need re-homing locally,thats sad
The UK make it really hard to rescue, that’s why people often choose to get a dog abroad. Anyway who cares, a dog in need is a dog in need, wherever it may be in the world
