Old dude here with a recent hip replacement. Step ons saved my snowboarding passion. No more sitting down to strap up, get off the lift place that heel down click the toes in and away you go. Amazingly responsive, fully connected to your board , way more so than strap ons..Now for any clicking noise , rub some surf wax on each connect point on the boots and on the bindings and your set. Never had any problem not being clicked in ever. Just remember heel first then the toe sides follow naturally!! My ski buds are amazed how easy and quick it is. No more waiting..
Last season I rented a pair of stepon and rode the whole mountain and only notice the heel was not clicked when I made it back to the lift 😆, not a pro, but I do like the stepons because I didn’t have to get down to strap in. Response is incredible, also I was having a lotta pain on my front foot idkw, but the pain disappeared with the step-ons.
I just bought the ions and X stepsons, size 8 and small. Had a good amount of movement between heel clear and the locking mechanism only for the left side. Right side was snug. This was with bindings mounted. Went back to retailer. Tried a second pair of same bindings. Exact same thing; left only. Then tried with new bindings and new pair of boots. Same. Left side only. Then tried the other combinations and still same problem. The test was without mounting the bindings at the store. Then we tried out a pair of genesis and couldn’t notice any play. However once mounted, I get my boots and and locked into the bindings, the play was Noticeable on both heels. I did, was some suggested and high back lean forward fully. That seemed to fix the problem for the most part. It’s also interesting that some people notice the heel lift doesn’t happen when they’re riding. What I think the problem is: the gas pedal is soft at room temperature. When you’re in your boot or even just clicking the boots into position without feet in the boots, there is some noticeable give in the gas pedal, especially when your in boots and you’re putting pressure down in the heels. I wonder if, when you’re outside, the gas pedal foam becomes more solid, leaving less opportunity for give?
I have the gap on both my bindings. TBH I don’t think it affects the riding as it is the toe pressure that creates the turn. A highback on a regular binding is not attached and will flex with the boot so I don’t think it’s an issue.
@@thanawatice777 It should be noted that I’ve seen videos of people who fix the highback with zip ties. I guess it theoretically will give you a microsecond quicker response when transitioning to toeside. But I think it’s negligible.
I have this problem . I measured the heal pads and one is an 8th inch thicker, top to bottom. The thinner has the play in it. It’s a qc thing if you ask me.
Had the same exact problem. Sent the boots back to warranty and they said I need new boots but my size is out of stock at the moment. My friends own DC step on boots and they seem to have NO problem with the play so I’d say go get DC boots.
I had this issue last year too. There is two locking mechanism, 1st where you lock your bind on to the board and then the cover between the boots and the binding itself. There should supposed to click both “ears” into the right hole depending on your boot size. After figuring this out my stepon are spot on with no heel issues
Another quick fix for this is to remove the cleat and then add some paper / material into slot. Slide the cleat back in and it should raise the cleat about 5-10mm and still align with the screw hole.
I have same issue but just started. Put maybe 50 days on the step ons. My right foot (I ride regular) has a lot of travel before the boot starts flexing because it feels like the clip has gotten loose somehow. Have no idea how to fix right now. Honestly thought I was getting heel lift in the boot but it’s my heel lifting in the binding because it’s loose…
I have messed with all morning and I think there is just too much travel between clip and heel lock. I have used mine about 50 days and I think the foam is compressing more on my uphill leg. I put some adhesive foam on heel of foot bed (maybe 2mm) and that seemed to fix the issue.
Someone posted a link of this on my channel. Nothing wrong here. The highback should move together with the boot when you get on your toes. In this video, one moves a little more than the other, but they both will move together with the boot when you’re riding. Enjoy your Step Ons 🤙🏽
I have the same issue as shown here in the video. It doesn’t seem to be a problem with movement of the high back, but rather space between the cleat on the boot and the hook in the binding. When turning toe-side, it “taps” as it makes contact. Is that what you are saying Burton engineered intentionally to help with toe-side turns?
@@michaelmichaels2097 Once it’s in the second setting completely locked in you’d have to take your boot out and just snap it in the first setting again. I wish there was an easy way to go from one to another but nope …. I normally ride in second setting completely locked down anyways .
You haven’t put any weight on them the back will do the same when you’re in the boot and then in the binding it’s to mimic the little movement regular strap bindings have no issue here

I would say it won't affect much but i really like how it perfectly lock in on my right boot which feels incredible!
It is normal, I hate to say it, I’m contemplating going back to strap bindings. I have the genesis and ion boot, the boot retained stiffness for about 10 days. Now at about 40 days they are like soft noodles. The heel lift is horrific. There are simple ways to fix it. But still.
Easy fix, move the foot base to a larger size, usually 1 full size larger. This allows easier engagement of the 2nd heel clip and a more secure attachment
@@123soccerisfun no, that definitely didn't help at all. When you move a foot base, it's moving horizontally and the vertical gap remains the same. In my case these are small size bindings and I am at a maximum length - size 8.
