I'm a NAMMY (Native American Music Award) Nominee for Native American Flute and a career bass player. I've been a professional working musician for decades so you know you're in good hands.

Yeah those bass amps adds vibe 🙂
Even better when they're on and the volume at 11 😎
Thank you!!
love your videos
Thanks Man!
Hey man, please.post the next videos
Love you even though I don't know you
This the exact video I was looking for! A good overview of flute embellishments with them acted out as an example. Thanks
+zarnaik Ⓥ Thank you! More to come
Thankyou!!!💙
You’re welcome 😊
These are some very cool embellishments. I'm just starting out with a NA flute in F# and this was perfect for me since I can still make the flute do these same things. Thanks!
You bet - happy flutings!
Have fun!
Very nice tutorial. Thank you!
Thank You!
Thank you so much for making these tutorials. I have had my Ordell Borge flute for 4 years and never played it. Mind you I have the Red Tail Hawk which is too big for a beginner like me with small hands. Since watching your videos and practicing I now have the basics down. I just ordered a Jonah Thompson in F. I do not know if you tour in NY but I would love to see your band someday. Many blessings to you my Friend.
these tutorials are great
wonderful
Thank you!
Thanks!
You are very welcome!
Wow these tutorials are really good and informative thank you!! One question how do I know if the block is positioned correctly
Very good question!
If you look at the front of the sound block, you will see a square hole in the flute. Slide the block so the the front face of the block is precisely even with the back edge of the square hole.
The second check is that the the block is centered on the flute side-to-side (while simultaneously being even wth the square hole).
The third check is that the leather straps are tight so there are no air leaks from the sides of the sound block.
This can be hard to visualize in text so if you give me about 7-10 days I will throw up a tutorial on just the sound block - much easier if you can see what I'm explaining!
Subscribe if you like so you get the notice when the new tutorial goes up. Thanks for a great idea - Happy Flutings!
I have a question about the high notes. Some of the keys I have don't take much extra air pressure to get those two or three higher notes. But my G and High B are a little stubborn. Not too bad but I have to tongue them to get them to sound. Is this the nature of the flute? Is this normal that I have to punch up the pressure a bit? My low D and F# are pretty effortless to get those higher notes. Not much extra air pressure. I have the high spirit flutes as well and they all sound great but my G and B just dont play the higher tones as effortlessly BUT (and I know this is breaking the rules) if I place the fetish just slightly past the edge of the true sound hole, the high notes are effortless. It does effect the sound slightly - a bit more brighter/not as mellow ( but ever so slightly) and it actually creates some nice resonance and character. So I guess my other question is it ok that the placement of the fetish is unconventional as long as it is in tune? Thanks
Very good questions! Yes, it is normal to punch up the air pressure for the two notes above the octave (the 2nd and minor 3rd above the octave). And it is very dependent on the flute itself and how it was made. Some you can force above the octave and others simply won't do it. That's why it is best to try a flute before purchase if possible.
Changing the fetish position can sometimes help and will certainly affect tone. I don't think anything is unconventional if it gives you the tone and performance you like.
Blessings!
Kev
Not drum n bass, just flute n bass!

Are you left handed? I hold the flute the opposite way you do and I am right handed. Is this incorrect?
I actually had another student ask me this. Normally the right hand is on the bottom but I am of the mind that you should use what is best for you. NA flute is a spiritual instrument so it's more about the music you make form your heart and soul through it rather than precise technique. I say if you're a lefty go for it!
