Ducati DesertX versus CRF250RX for motocross?😂︱Cross Training Enduro

  • www.crosstraini... 110hp for motocross? lol When my Canadian cousins reviewed the Ducati DesertX they asked an enduro racer, Mitch Meister, in the expert class to give the suspension a thorough test. He went way beyond the original expectations and we thought 'Why not show it in the review?' Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. Everyone likes watching the antics of riders like Pol Tarres doing very inappropriate things on an adventure motorbike. Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. Mitch also did a lap of the motocross practice track. He hasn't ridden an adventure motorbike before so he takes it easy for the first 30 seconds. Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. But after the first corner he starts roosting and the Hondas start working hard to stay with him. Behind Mitch is young Mason is on a Honda CRF250RX. He is local racer doing quite well in the junior class. And we are onboard with Chuck Harder, mechanic and occasional enduro racer. The Ducati has a ridiculous amount of power for a track like this. 110hp. So on the few parts of the track where Mitch can hit the throttle the roost is long and wide! As expected, the Ducati is a cumbersome beast to slow down. It's also a lot of weight to wrestle through the corners. Mason goes wide. I'm not sure if he came in too fast or he is deliberately trying to avoid the flying chunks of dirt from the Ducati's rear wheel. I should mention our legal disclaimer. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos. Kids, don't try this at home on your adventure motorbikes. Unless you have a permission note from your parents. And lots of life insurance. The guys pull in to take a break. Next? It's just Chuck Harder chasing Mitch. Who is Chuck Harder? If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills. I'm glad you asked. Damn! It's surprising how fast the Ducati can accelerate if the tyre has enough grip. It's hard to control all that horsepower. A bit too much throttle? The Ducati's rear goes sideways and with all that weight it doesn't correct very quickly. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques. Again, the RX catches up quickly during braking. Riding a big motorbike in inappropriate terrain is pretty popular now. Me? I've taken my DR650 on some hard enduro tracks when my usual enduro bike was out of action. But it was all at low speeds and I didn't feel at risk. But I have zero interest in this sort of caper on a Ducati. Ever tried it yourself? What sort of motorbike? My advice? Don't try it until you can ride like this guy. Pol Tarres.

This vid also appeared on our adventure channel last year. Most viewers are only subscribed to one channel so we occasionally do separate versions of some vids for both channels.

Been riding for 2 decades now, mainly sportbikes. Few years ago I saw Pol Tarres’ Seeker movie…few months later I ordered me T7. Idiot as I am I tried being Pol Tarres light from day1, resulting in me braking my legs 2 within the last 12months. So I guess I am more of a road bike man.

Or take the good bike. T7 is marketing, light is right for fun, always. Pol tarres T7 is prepared to 170kg wet, compare to the normal 200kg Dry T7, plus his experience/talent...

Ouch! I hope they healed up okay? Pol had a lot of suspension work done. And as per the other comments, it's a lot lighter.... these would make a big difference as it's not much heavier than a DR650 single.

I do like these types of videos showing what ADV bikes can and can't do. You don't know their true capability until you get in rough conditions. I put my DR650 and 800DE in almost as tough situations as my 250 xc. Just a lot slower and calculated.

I was doing the same thing with my DR occasionally... taking it on some of our tougher tracks. But definitely way slower lol.

i saw the perfect line to keep up with Mitch on my R1200GS...roll into the middle of the paddock, put the Boxer to rest and watch from the altered reality view standing atop the mound as i keep a close eye on the roost flying out from the back wheel of the Desert X; i found that i could keep up pretty easy and even had to back off to avoid the chunks of earth being thrown at me until i identified the spot where i could slip the GS under him and throw some Beemer Roost at him...the right hander where he would always lose traction was the spot; i'd simply wait until he eventually high-sided unto Terra Firma, start the Beemer and click into first to casually ride down in front of him laying on the ground and with a handful of front brake and aggressive throttle turning i would fill him in; this proves you don't always have to be the fastest or the bestest on any given day, just the smartest.

I think I mentioned my mods in an old Xtrainer vid. Rox pivoting risers to get the bars up and forward. Fastway pegs to get them down and rearset. I do this to pretty much any bike I own and it makes a huge difference. Oh, and Steg Pegz too. Great for tall riders!

Barry, I can thank (or blame, hah ) you for getting me interested in the pursuit of becoming a better off road rider - it helped me make the decision to replace my 1989 NX250 with a DRZ400 as I got better.
I can thank (or again, blame) Adam Riemann and his original 'Velocity Disorder' video for reigniting my nostalgia for the CR250R - I'd had a '96 and remember watching Ricky Carmichael's dominance atop an 01 CR250R - this lead me to seek out and buy an '01 to rebuild as a street legal woods bike.
Finally, I can straight up blame Pol Tarres, FortNine BeRad and the sweet exhaust note of Yamaha's CP2 for getting me to take a brand new, 0 mile 2023 T7 off the showroom floor, immediately strip it to the bare running gear and rebuild it as a big dirt bike that gets hucked around the same back woods tracks and trails my DRZ and CR do.

Great stable of bikes! How much weight did you manage to trim off the T7? I figure I'll move to a twin eventually but want it as light as possible....

I keep swearing one of these days I'm going to get a smaller bike to make hard trails more fun.... Till then it's the old xr600 and the tiger xca 800... Which is hundreds of pounds lighter than the last 1250 tiger I had. 😂 Definitely no expert but usually hit 100 plus MPH on the open dirt desert in Utah... I'll let those under 50 years old play on the Motocross tracks😅

@@crosstrainingenduro It's been good. the WP suspension is epically better than what I had on the 1200. Put the Michelin Anakee wilds on it and has performed admirably on everything... Of course I don't typically take it on single tracks. 😂 Not what I got it for! We've got 80 mile an hour highway speed limits out here. Which means people are going 90 Plus. And it has the legs to GTFO! Even with one tooth dropped on the front sprocket. It acts like a 125 on the trails (gotta keep the Rs up) the lower gears made a huge difference and will still go well over the century mark.
