- Dein ist mein ganzes Herz. Das Land des Lächelns. Richard Tauber Tenor. 1891-1948
You are my heart delight. The Land of Smiles.
Composer; Franz Lehar.
Richard Tauber sings for his girlfriend Marlene Dietrich.
Marino,s Choice.
Historical Record Collection; Marino van Wakeren
one of the if not THE most beautiful "timbres" ever: Richard Tauber
This MOST ROMANTIC of SONGS brings tears to my eyes. It is full of BEAUTY, MELODY, YEARNING, and DEEP FEELING. It makes contemporary popular music sound like TRASH!
Contrast this GORGEOUS song to rap or hip hop or to the bland songs that are hugely popular today and you can see how far Western civilization has declined!
Yes and yes! I could not agree more. My grandfather loved this song. It usually brought tears to his eyes. I have such fond memories of sitting with him listening to songs like this. He had an original LP with this piece which he copied onto a CD. We were all away one year visiting relatives for the 4th of July, when at one point during the hubbub we escaped to a separate room and put the CD on. He and I shared a dislike for the crazy talk and chaotic commotion which often defined gatherings with extended family. But sitting there listening to this music was like an escape to a world apart. RIP Grandpa ... 1926-2015.
You are absolutely right.

+Peter Helbich Very interesting information!
Of all the great tenors, Tauber possesses some kind of ethereal and nostalgic quality that carries you back to a bygone era. Magic!
Richard Tauber haunts me , cant get him out of my head ! Play his song "girls are made to love and kiss " And I was born the year he died !
I love this song for it's intrinsecal passion, but I had never listened to such a moving and beautiful interpretation of it. Thank you for introducing me to Richard Trauber!
Richard Tauber, one of our great losses in bad self inflicted times. RIP from Vienna!
It is fitting that this has photos of Marlene Dietrich, for during Tauber's final illness in 1948, it was she who paid for his treatment and stay in a hospice. Thanks for posting this.
+JimB2805 Thanks for the interesting information. I'm an admirer both of Tauber and Dietrich.
Lehar la viuda alegre opereta
This is one of the best remasterings of this that I've heard.
I feel as if I have been waiting all my life to hear this beloved song sung in a manner that seems so superbly "right" as it does here, when crafted so artfully by the prince of German Romantic tenors, Richard Tauber.
eoselan7 richard tauber
What a magic era.
Lehar composed this for his good friend Tauber specifically to showcase the tenor's unique voice and vocal range.
It is terrifically difficult to sing, even though he makes it seem so easy.
@@janetanderton7091 non-sense. Born in Linz, of an unwed Austrian actress. There was nothing British about Tauber...He accepted British citizenship in 1939-40 to escape the Nazis after they had revoked his passport and his "right to abode," applicable to both Germany and his homeland, then-occupied Austria.
My mother and my father loved this guy so much. Me too
What a BEAUTIFUL, LYRICAL VOICE! It CAPTURED my HEART as soon as I heard it on this WONDERFUL recording.
And what an inspiration it was to accompany this GORGEOUS song with images of the BEAUTIFUL Marlene Dietrich!
The fabulous Richard Tauber.
Wie schön! Ich wollte wegschalten, aber das geht nicht. Ich dachte, ich hätte keine Zeit. Diese Stimme zu hören und diese Musik, lohnt das Leben.
Hubertus Heuel
Das haben Sie ganz richtig erkannt! Einfach wunderbar! Ich bekomme Gänsehaut!
Their friendship lasted a life long and beyond. Marlene paid for his funeral.
I recall that evening about 45 years ago when I first hear Tauber's voice. It was on a radio broadcast from a Chicago station. Was it Marty something or other? I stopped whatever I was doing to listen to the remainder of the show. Later, I learned that Elisabeth Schwarzkopf had had a similar reaction when her husband played something by Tauber on the radio. I have been a huge fan of Tauber ever since. (As well as of Schwarzkopf.)
It could have been Franklyn MacCormack on WGN and his "Meister Brau Showcase" all-night show on that station this is the genre of music he played
That would have been Marty Robinson. But it could have been Franklyn MacCormack as well.
The red army as surrounded us put this on the gramophone hans before we die 😢 a fine tribute too those Germans that surrender was not an option . May they rest in pace .GOTT MIT.UNS .🌼🌼🌼
Outstanding 🙏
Wunderschön! Vielen Dank für das tolle Video.
Марлен Дитрих-образец истинной женщины.Загадка.
THANK YOU FOR THIS MEMORY, FOR ME IT IS OF ME TIME DURING THE WAR AT THE THEATRE IN BRIXTON , WITH MY SISTER AND RICHARD TAUBER SINGING REQUESTED SONGS FROM HIS SHOW''S THERE WAS AN AIR RAID IN PROGRESS AND IF WE WISHED WE COULD TAKE SHELTER IN THE BASEMENT AFTER THE SHOW , WHICH WE DID, AND MY SISTER AND I HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO SHAKE HANDS WITH TAUBER HE WAS SO NICE TO CHAT WITH AND SUCH A GENTLEMANTHANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALLOWING HIS MEMORY AND VOICE STILL TO BE HEARD ,:):):)
Thank you for sharing a wonderful memory and experience.
Wunderschönes Lied 🐨🌻♥️🙏
Mir fehlen die Worte - Phantastisch !!!
Compared to this today's music is trash
ich liebe dieses Lied!
Dein ist mein ganzes Herz
Easily the best version of "Dein ist mein ganzes Herz" ever recorded. No other tenor comes even close to the intensity, passion, power and deep understanding of the lyrics that Tauber brought to the song. Lehar wrote it with Tauber in mind, so it maybe seems kind of appropriate that he could sing it better than anyone else...
I heard it from a young Korean tenor once and I didnt like it any less, au contraire. Isn't "yellow-facing" a thing?
FOND MEMORIES OF THIS MUSIC FILTERING THROUGH MY GRAND PARENTS HOUSEHOLD A LONG TIME AGO....
LaTierra de las sonrisas. Fantástica interpretación de Richart Tauber
Magnificent !!! 💖
Ooooh, how beautiful this is! It is completely heartfelt and superbly uplifting.
Wunderbar !
amazing
Richard Tauber was my grandfather's favourite singer. I have some very old records from him at home. He had such an incredible voice that moves one to tears. So sad he had to leave his country because he was a Jew.
+Pomona Proserpina I do so agree. What a singer. And he really does move one to tears.
Sad? I'd say revolting
Do not forget Joseph Schmidt, also known as the Jewish Caruso, who lost his life in a Labor Camp at the age of 38. On his grave stone is the inscription : Ein Stern Fällt.Remember his rousing rendition of " Heute ist der schönste Tag in meinem Leben."
Joseph Schmidt comes to mind immediately. The world lost him in his early thirties. Though world renown, he was unable to find a place of refuge. Because of his miniature stature, he was also called the "Pocketsize Caruso." There was a rousing quality to his voice strictly his own. It was at its best when he sang: Heut' is der schönste Tag in meinem Leben.
A wonderful voice and sadly such a short life.
Absolutely Gorgeous. I am speechless...
I think Tauber may be the most underrated tenor of his time.
Fritz Wunderlich does sing this with a D Flat!
Tauber was never underrated.
@@joto4294 People like to say "underrated." 😁
I was seven years old when I first heard this man's voice on a wind up gramaphone. The song was 'Goodbye' from 'The White Horse Inn' sung in German, the year 1948. My father loved his voice, and many years later, on his last visit to my home he asked me to play one of Tauber's songs. It would have been his last hearing of this magnificent voice.
Goodbye from the White Horse Inn is a quite different song in German.
wunderbar!!!!
absolutely wonderful work on this video== love Marlene and the sweet perfection of Richard Taubers voice
when I need to hear what a Brilliant Tenor sounds like or when I need a beautiful song Richard Tauber and "You are my Heart's Delight" is the only choice
i saw tauber at the stage door of the theatre in briggate,i was with my mother and elder brother.mother wanted autograph and only paper she had was a photo of my uncle bill mothers brother who was a prisoner of war in italy. i kept this photo for years and some it went astray.wonderful singer wonderful song
I’d love to know more! What was he singing? I find it incredible to think of Tauber in Leeds! Did you go to his concert? Did he say anything to you? My best wishes.
Magnificent!
Tauter at his young best. Very moving as it recalls my early years in a musical family. Later on in life had opportunity to stay in suite that Marlene had used for a while at Le Lancaster in the Rue de Berry. The suite was filed with portraits and memorabilia of Marlene. Couldn’t sleep a wink that night !
Ein wunderbares Lied, ja Ich habe Dich Lieb...the voice and the beauty...
Wie wunderbar.......
Best of the recordings?
Lehar und Tauber...Och
Makes me think a little....

WOW !
most romantic song ever
+Jacqueline Waring I totally agree with you. I can't think of any other song that is more romantic than this. This song is the ULTIMATE expression of ROMANTIC LOVE!
아름다운곡 레하르 미소의나라 아리아 희야뮤직까페에서여러번불렀던곡인데지금은그곳도없어져아쉽습니다
In this video, my favourite LOVE SONG is combined with images of the glamorous MARLENE DIETRICH, one of my favourite MOVIE STARS. My reaction on listening to it is NOSTALGIA for a time that has long passed away.

Espectacular!!! Sencillamente hermoso.
Tauber in all of the strength of his manhood. The engineer evidently had the mic closer to the instruments than the singer. The instruments are in clear timbre, while the singer sounds as if singing from another room -- like the unfortunate engineers of the Met radio broadcasts. Enough analysis. Tauber in fact, I feel was a lyric baritone with the ability to be beautiful in the tenor range. That I well understand.

Muita emoção no canto.
Excellent.
Marline Dietrich was a very beautiful woman.
Maravilhosa música!
Who is "Marlene Dietrich" anyway? ;-)
One of my favorite songs, thanks. Didn't know Marlene was his girlfriend!
Ria.
At the risk of overstaying my welcome I am tripping over the translation of Dein ist mein ganzes Herz with You are my heart [sic] delight. Actually, literally translated it says: Yours is my entire heart. Or using different words but still retaining its intended meaning: To you belongs my entire heart.I guess, to obtain a smoother flow of language, frequently the translation deviates from the meaning of the original but, either way, the beauty of the song when sung by somebody like Richard Tauber is unaffected.
I don't think that you overstayed your welcome.
thanks Marino.Beautiful
Pomona i will second that, also my garndfather sang his songs .Best singer that ever was in my eyes...
Meraviglioso !

+Jan Klaassen What a beautiful comment! I greatly admire the glamorous Marlene Dietrich. My sister in law is German. She does not like Dietrich. I cannot understand why. It could be some hidden prejudice.
bellissimo omaggio a due pardon tre grandi del nostro mondo.... Lehar, Tauber und Marlene..... Meiner Playlist ...hinzugefügt UP! :)

Enchanting
Een krachtig lied van Tauber, met een karaktervolle byzondere vrouw Dietrich.
First heard this when I was about 8 over 70 years ago. No other rendering compares.
Wonderful! The grand voice of Richard Tauber as a back drop to the legendary beauty of Marlene Dietrich. Beautiful production!
Silly me. I was expecting a duet, lol. however what I did get was audial and visual BEAUTY. Thank you!
Tauber was then the richest and best loved tenor in Germany but he died in abject poverty in 1948. Marlene paid for his funeral in London.
und frieden de menschen auf erden...
I misunderstood the title and thought this was a duet between them. I love Marlene Dietrich, but thought her voice would be drowned out by his.
' A stunning beautiful woman!'
SO where was Marlene Dietrich then?17/6/16
Wo ist Marlene??
richard tauber mi difunto esposo le encantaba, lo pongo en honor de el, que estara en el cielo escuchandolo
Great photos to accompany the great voice, in a rôle written for him by a great composer: what is it about Marlene? Joanie, Mae, Greta, Betty (Bacall), Judy, the Divine Miss M, Eartha, Barbra, Kylie, move over! Wonderful though some of you are/were, Marlene will be for me the all-time icon. It must be a synthesis of those looks, the presence, settings, humour, material (she had some good vehicles & a brilliant cabaret repertoire, much of it from her films) but, suffusing all these, the enigma of that smouldering sensuality, palpable sexuality; yet the “un-attainability.” Which of us would’ve DARED to ask Marlene for a date?
Is it a Superminx?
The car, I mean. Not Marlene.
Yes. She was very beautiful.
Didn't we steal her from the Germans?
I wish we could do the same with the even more beautiful, and even more talented Helene Fischer.
No. A Minx DeLuxe Series VI 1725 factory auto - last of the "Raymond Loewy" Rootes bodies.
1966Hillman Love them dearly. My father had a Singer Gazelle from 1965 until 1970. There's posh for you..
Looking at Marlene, she seems to have removed her eyebrows and painted them back on - in the wrong place. How could she think this was an improvement?
thrunsalmighty This looks like a still from a film, in which case you probably need to blame a make-up artist at Potsdam or Hollywood... It was obviously the fashion (a "dodgy" fashion, I agree), as pictures of numerous other film actresses in the 1920s & `30s show. I had very tidy-looking aunt who used to reshape her eyebrows by plucking them into a fine arch then applying eyebrow pencil to highlight what remained - she was once brought down to earth by my granddad, who looked at her & told her, "Gawd, Vicki, you've got eyebrows like question marks, my girl!"
1966Hillman Well. Perhaps without cosmetic attention, her eyebrows resembled Frida Kahlo's famous monobrow.
The Wunderlich version of this song is sublime.

Many years ago, in the dawn of the Internet, a lady from England asked me if I could send her a cassette tape recording of my vinyl LP of the Wiener Volksoper's performance of this operetta so that the old Austrian woman she was caring for could hear it once again before she passed away. I was able to do this, and the caregiver said that her elderly charge had been moved to tears by it, and it is probably the only thing that I've found the internet to be useful for in all these decades :)
I love this piece and this is the best version that's ever been recorded...I've listened to many (Alfie Boe's is pretty good)...but Richard Tauber still comes out on top every time.
