People tell me this is elevator music, and I want to slap them. If this was actually like elevator music id push every button on the god damn thing and jam out. People would think i'm Cracked out.
yeah it's hardly easy listening, but sometimes it's difficult to make the differentiation with the loudness wars happening in the pop charts or, like me, frequent visits the the Doom subcategory of my music folder, resulting in total desensitisation of heaviness and a skewed perception of what light sounding music actually is.
not at all, but elevator music does have a characteristic mundanity to it, buy it's very nature it needs to not really go anywhere tonally and hang around the same place whereas this can wander as far as it wants. i think a lot of people just hear electric piano and think stereotypical shopping mall
stalin swaggy ...walked through the veil many of times, my focus is widened now. reverberating sounds still reveal themselves during the quiet moments when the shadows grow long. don't let this grey hair fool you, I can still pull kinetic energy from the soil underneath my feet.
How many post funk Jazz artists have grammy's besides Robert Glasper? The list is pretty disheartening. Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Beyonce, and H.E.R. are some of the names listed when you do a Google search. That's not to say anything about those artists quality of music, but to label them as jazz artists I think is a disservice to actual jazz artists.
I mean, they were in the credits for Kendrick's DAMN Pulitzer Award, for playing and producing in "Lust". So, at least they have that. They contested for a Grammy for Best Albim Mix with Turnstile's "New Heart Designs", unfortunately they didn't win. Anyways, love them a lot.
I always prefer when its just the three of them. The lead melodies that Leland plays can be played by Chester, saxophone and guitar are just too harmonious for them. like on Putty boy strut, the version they play in boiler room where chester plays the saxophone line, it sounds so much better
+V Ferreira I'm a sax player and have been really into the jazz scene for years. I love how BBNG incorporates jazz harmony and improv to such an extent, but Leland just doesn't do it for me.
I had this very chance while I was living in China. A soul selling is definitely worth it🤣🤣. The best I can do is offer you the recording I got from that show. Enjoy
The drummer has a weird way of holding the sticks, but he sounds just phenomenal! Honestly, this style of music usually can get a bit boring and random for me quickly. But this band is so fresh, vivid and inspiring. Actually prefer listening & watching them as a trio.
Man I feel like a poser. Been lovin BBNG when they started out with hiphop covers but I'm nowhere near as musically literate as a lot of their fans seem to be
i feel it, in my mind, you should fuck with music because you like how it sounds. you don't have to know the music theory or anything behind it, as long as you legitimately enjoy it you shouldn't feel like you're not a genuine fan
@@whatever7338 NAH...it's all art bro being ignorant or sophisticated/educated on it is just what it is and how you interpret(enjoy) it. Of course it's always good to familiarize oneself with the inspiration though. Especially in the age of google it's easily done. It makes for a deeper appreciation/experience
You don’t need to know what they’re doing in order to enjoy it, but when you know what BBNG is doing (studying theory and shit), it’s really impressive, the feeling and the music they play
yeah this has pretty much all been done by soft machine in the late 60s early 70s. Nice to see modern young kids doing somewhat similar, tho they probably have never heard of soft machine, just arrived at a somewhat similar place thru mixing jazz with grooves and such, which is great, but not a new thing, just has been uncool and underground the last several decades before more recently so people forgot about this style, only coming back more recently as hip to mix jazz with other stuff. But soft machine were the main originators of this style 50 years earlier along with a few others. Glad to see some of you know this, but i'm sure the majority wont.
My god that drummer
i was thinking the same thing.
That bassist
Esta hermoso verdad ?
I'm here 3yrs later to say, "M god that drummer." He reminds me of Brad Wilk and his tiny ass set getting all that noise for Rage Against the Machine.
My drummer that god.
People tell me this is elevator music, and I want to slap them. If this was actually like elevator music id push every button on the god damn thing and jam out. People would think i'm Cracked out.
it kinda does sound like it at points though, i see what they mean. something about keys in jazz that reminds me of fancy hotels and Sims games.
elevator music stays cool, it's very light. This ain't

Mikail Elchanovanich Would you call BBNG monotone? I find that elevator/lounge music often has this quality

They are all so talented! That bassline is so groovy!
this is hotter than the sun. if your looking for traditional song structure.... you won't find it here. this is life music.
John Wanamaker cycles that cleanse the soul , LSD , psilocybin

John Wanamaker Wtf?
my thoughts exactly
Can't argue with that.
That melodic change. So many emotions hidden in that!
This is unbelievably inspiring. They're so good at understanding how to play together. Especially when they're comping when live.
They're so inspiring i just completed a song listening to this xD!
Why don't you have a Grammy already. You have refreshing music .
Jz Re this is a cover
@@nathansiegel950 really? Who's the composer?
@@barriosteppa2686 Songwriters are listed as BBNG, so I'm not sure what they're talking about

BananaTube Triangle, from the same album, or Hedron, that's my personal opinion, but those song are the best.

Raw distilled is a double negative. Also, skill, not talent.

Why does this remind me Opeth? Is there a song like this by them?
+DirtyColossus The Lotus Eater's jazzy section maybe ?
A lot of Opeth sounds like this. This song reminds me of the slow section in "the baying of the hounds"
