This gave me so much comfort when my son took his own life in 2021 For the joy of human love, Brother sister, parent child …. Father God gave me the grace to give thanks for the 30 years I had him, that God gave him to me for that time. Miss him still but Praise Gof for his most precious gifts 😢
This makes me tear up. To read not only of your sadness, but your faith amidst such deep pain. Thank you for your testimony. May God grant you a peace that passeth all understanding.
This song takes me away to a place of long ago. A place of simplicity. A place of safety. A place of agape love. A place of living among angels. A place of sweetness that never goes sour. A place of beautiful harmony. A place of no pain, A place where every creature is loved and adored. A place where there is no rich, no poor, no hunger, no envy, no distrust, or no hate. A place I yearn to return to.
My Nanna was laid to rest yesterday, she chose this beautiful hymn to be carried into the Chapel to, listening to it now and hearing the beauty of the words. Rest in eternal peace, Nanna
For the beauty of the earth For the beauty of the skies For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies Over and around us lies Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For the beauty of the hour Of the day and of the night Hill and vale and tree and flower Sun and moon and stars of light Sun and moon and stars of light Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For the joy of human love Brother, sister, parent, child Friends on earth and friends above For all gentle thoughts and mild For all gentle thoughts and mild Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For each perfect gift of thine To our race so freely given Graces human and divine Flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n Flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn, our joyful hymn of praise This our joyful hymn of praise
Rutter is a great choral writer. But he is an ever greater orchestrator, selecting the perfect combination of instruments to enhance his message. Done only with keyboard, his music is still meaningful. Performed with orchestra, the music shimmers.
I used to sing this in choir as a child but couldn’t understand or enjoy because all I saw around me was evil. I wanted my eyes healed and heard this song title I’d forgotten in my head. I prayed it and teared up and the words on the screen cleared for me. Be thou my vision. Praise the Lord. He is healing me. And thank you for John Rutter Lord.
John Rutter's music always puts a smile on my face. I was in choirs all through high school, but unfortunately he did not start composing until after I had graduated. I learned of him through the local classical music station. His music is looked down upon by snobs because it is too approachable. I love it for exactly that reason--it is the most beautiful and glorious music. May God bless him.
This hymn always brings me back to all that is beautiful. Love. Compassion. Mercy. Forgiveness. Family. The beauty of friendship. The beauty of mother earth. All that matters is love. God is love.
This song has stuck with me for years, and now as I know that Jesus is coming to rescue His children, I praise Him for giving me eternal life and the hope of being with Him for eternity. We don't know the day and hour, but we know we are chosen to fly up to meet Him in the clouds- 1 Thessalonians 4. Maranatha.
you all prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@David Marley thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
17 years ago when I learned to sing this song with our Bible School Choir introduced by our Choir Director Eliezer Yanson!! This is one of the timeless heavenly choir pieces I have sung! Soli Deo Gloria!
This popped into my head today, I haven’t heard it since singing it in my school choir over 25 years ago! Didn’t realise it was John Rutter. No wonder I love it so much. Now singing more of his songs in the ladies choir I now belong to 🥰
I just came across John Rutter mucic in a choir in sept 2023 and i love love love his music it is beautiful to sing and im taking lessons so i can sing it better, im so inspired by his sublime music
Denise, how wonderful is the promise: "As it was in the beginning, so will it be in the end." We each have a vital role to play: allowing LOVE to reign in our hearts.
Me too, it was the anthem during Holy Communion near the end of the ceremony. Our wedding music list: ua-cam.com/play/PLBYvfMPfz7L6dikagPib_rFC5N-G60bTx.html Running order: - entrance music - opening hymn - psalm - collect hymn - register signing music - penultimate hymn - anthem during Holy Communion - closing hymn - exit music
Lyrics by Folliott Sandford Pierpoint (1835-1917), Based on Ephesians 5:20. Pierpoint was Born at Spa Villa, Bath, UK, educated at Queens' College, Cambridge, and taught classics at Somersetshire College, 11 Royal Crescent. 29 at the time he wrote this hymn (1864), he was mesmerized by the beauty of the countryside that surrounded him, looking down from a hill overlooking Bath, admiring the country view and the winding Avon River. Inspired by the view to think about God's gifts in creation and in the church, Pierpoint wrote this text. It was written as a Eucharistic hymn - hence the title of "The Sacrifice of Praise".
Thank you, Simon. The beauty of God's creation inspired Folliott to write these beautiful words, which have inspired so many of us, long after his passing, in 1917. It brings to mind, the hymn I first sang in Sunday school: "All things bright and beautiful." He gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell of the greatness of the one Who has made ALL things well. For this too, we give God thanks and praise.

We are having this played at my mother-in-law’s funeral. It’s a beautiful piece and one I’ve sung with my choir before. I am hoping that all present will find it as beautiful and uplifting as I do. X
You're very good and Rutter is really brilliant. My choir sang Candlelight Carol during one of our last performances using a new arrangement. Write this in the search: you will surely like it. Corale Novarmonia - Candlelight Carol (J. Rutter)
The problem is that the earth is getting more and more and more polluted. That's what this song reminds me of. God is not stopping us from trashing this planet.
God will clean it up soon! He intervenes every 2000 years or so. The human race is ready for His judgements again. Peace will follow the moral cleansing!
Get out of the cities. There's still a lot of beauty to be found. But also take hope in His coming. He's going to cleanse the earth and recreate it perfectly. ❤
I am a note-to-color synesthete who had dedicated my life to exploring the nature of perception of our hearing, developing what I call my "Theory of Pitch Psychology." I am quite stunned by this first listen to a composer who I had never heard of but ran across in my research about the singing voice in F#. I'd like to share a choral piece which I think it's the most intense realization of Samuel Barber's, Agnus Dei (Adagio for Strings). God bless you, John Rutter. ua-cam.com/video/ZPXZgT9yNbA/v-deo.html
Beautiful melody, but packing a complicated line like "For all gentle thoughts and mild" in one second of time is not a gentle thought for singers nor audience...
I disliked them as well. Perhaps the performers was using out of sync in-ears? I mean, it was very, very off time, as in, it would be difficult to be THAT out of time without technical difficulties being the cause. Or perhaps it was actually arranged to be that way, in which case, just... why? I'll give the performer the benefit of the doubt.
Earth is nothing but CRUEL. That's the place our ancestors have been cast out, how is this place beautiful? Nature is cruel and non-stoppable killing happens at all times. All living creature have to take other's flesh and blood in order to survive , by all means
It’s hidden here. Hidden in plain sight but it’s here. When God speaks to you and begins to open you up to the Holy Spirit you begin to see it. I would have agreed with you only a few months ago but now I can See. If you can’t See, read the Gospel and ask someone who is true to scripture to explain it to you. Absolutely no church dogma - it must be someone who is true to the Bible. Most churches are currently fallen so find find the right person - the kind of person who can explain why evil exists and why it’s running rampant right now.
This gave me so much comfort when my son took his own life in 2021

This makes me tear up. To read not only of your sadness, but your faith amidst such deep pain. Thank you for your testimony. May God grant you a peace that passeth all understanding.
God bless you. I just lost my father. I can only imagine how difficult that was for you. x
I'm so sorry

Find again the church of God's elect. A hospital for poor sinners. A refuge for Jesus' flock. Mine is Forest Hills Baptist Church Titusville Florida.
Brother, Sister, Parent, Child... simple, harmonious and True
Denise, this is possible through a life of prayer and living in Christ’s love! So well said!
God's presence!

God bless you as you remember your dear Nanna. May you have the comfort and peace of God with you always.
How beautiful. Bless you. X
We played this for my mum's funeral too, after the eulogy. She loved Rutter.

God bless you. I encountered it similarly and it moves me now both with its own beauty and the remembered pain of that time.

England's great gift to choral music has done it again.
My wife and I sang this in our college chamber choir 30 years while we were dating. I have some wonderful memories associated with this song!
30 years is a long time to date
Kevin O'Neil lmaoooooo
My husband and I got married 25/09 and this song was the anthem the church choir sung during Holy Communion near the end of the service
Are you a Conductor?
John Rutter, thank you, thank you for all you have contributed and continue to contribute to music throughout the world. I love your music.
This hymn always brings me back to all that is beautiful. Love. Compassion. Mercy. Forgiveness. Family. The beauty of friendship. The beauty of mother earth. All that matters is love. God is love.

I think of Ps 19 - "Their line has gone through all the earth and their words to the end of the world." This our joyful hymn of praise!
Thanks John for bringing harmony, meaning and joy to our humble being.
Are you a Conductor?

My mother's funeral and burial had this song, fantastically emotional. RIP mother xxx
It's a dream to sing as well.... ( love John Rutter).
One of the greatest joys was to sing in the choir at Boston Avenue UMC, Tulsa OK....under your conducting @ 1984.....
This is such a beautiful hymn always lifts my heart and spirit.
John Rutter, you are a blessing indeed.

A great tribute with Thanksgiving to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Thanks for a Beautiful Song.
Greetings from London!
So glad I can hear this music.
I like many other people take it for granted that I am not deaf and can enjoy this music.
A great version of a wonderful hymn. My favorites!
Me too, I love this arrangement. When I got married the church choir sung it during Holy Communion near the end of the service
Rip John rummery. My church choir director who gave me the love of singing and this beautiful song to sing a part in
Rip? He's not dead you know? He's 77 and alive and well
Absolutely soulstirring. One of the most beautiful pieces ive ever listened to. X
I sang this back in high school! Beautiful song! ❤
Love this hymn, and what John Rutter has done with it!

I'm on the way to Weston super Mare on the X1 bus and I hear the words. And the simplicity of the delight of being there.
This song always makes me happy and makes me have faith
Great recording. I loved singing this song in a choir.
I think this is my favourite of your hymn settings - I sang it at a few weddings with a wedding choir.
Beautiful music and rendition.
My husband and I had this when we got married, paired very nicely with 'I sing of a maiden'
Me too, it was the anthem during Holy Communion near the end of the ceremony. Our wedding music list: ua-cam.com/play/PLBYvfMPfz7L6dikagPib_rFC5N-G60bTx.html

My lovest hymn ever, but the same version in "Gloria, sacred music of John Rutter 1984".
Just beautiful, thank you.
We sang this song at Chiredzi school in Rhodesia in the 1960s. It was different music but about the same lyrics. Rutter’s music wasn't out then.
We sing this magnificent piece tomorrow at our UU Church. Your performance is spectacular.
Ditto 1st U/Philadelphia at a bout the same period as your response.
This tune is a special kind of bop
Great and beautiful! I love it.

So much better a version than the one we had at school. That was a dirge. This version, I just sing sometimes for the fun of it.
Beautiful!

Great song !! However...I like it more without those beats.
Seeing as John Rutter is conducting it himself, I'd say he approves!
Agreed, a bit over-instrumentalized. Still love it though!
Nah the beats is just fine.
Beautiful melody, but packing a complicated line like "For all gentle thoughts and mild" in one second of time is not a gentle thought for singers nor audience...
What!?!?! What are you ranting about?
Too bad they had to ruin it with those drums and what not about a minute in.
Nah the drums are just fine I actually like this version I almost put drums when I made my choir at the school sing this song.
I disliked them as well. Perhaps the performers was using out of sync in-ears? I mean, it was very, very off time, as in, it would be difficult to be THAT out of time without technical difficulties being the cause. agreed
Too bad they had to ruin it with those vocals, you mean. If I wanted to hear pigs slaughtered I'd visit an abattoir.
