This is a Swerve Module. You'd put one of these on each corner of a robot in order to be able to drive in any direction at a time. It provides big benefits from two other types of drivetrains: Differential Drives (like a car or tank) where you can move forwards, backwards, and turn, but not go sideways; and Mecanum Drives, where the robot can go sideways but is very easily pushed.
