Same scenario here but her bf is like 4h from where we live. The last time she did it she actually blame my mom. My mom. Because she said we (mom and I) helped her look for a present for her bf. After “talking” we agreed on not being best friends anymore and restart but I can already tell we’re not going to be that no matter how much I love her. I think the song means that he doesn't want somebody else to get hurt being used by her he feels like if he lets her use him he's saving another person from being used and he pretends to like the way he's treated because he's afraid that if he stops allowing himself to be used that when she uses another person it'll be his fault because he didn't allow himself to be used (don't get mad at me if you think the meaning is different though we can have a friendly debate if you wish to 😋)
I saw that at first. I think that it is possible that he meant use me so that he has worth. I know for me that if someone uses me it makes me feel wanted temporary until they don’t. I guess being used is a purpose so without it he is useless. When he says don’t use someone else then he might see it has someone else is making them happier than he can

But my Friend doesn't notice him. She will never love him. But he still tries.
