Lions fans literally resisted a good secondary for years. They were convinced all they needed was 4 guys up front. When it failed, they whined for more guys up front. It was embarrassing to watch them pass on so many great dbs thinking all they needed was pressure. Holmes truly defied all logic. He drafted a Lb, WR, rb and TE with high picks and started to develop guys from day 3-4 along the line. Never again will the Lions go back to 14 linemen highly in the draft in 20 years. Such a waste for so long.

@bingo8789 i think youre right about Rakestraw. The problem is getting rakestraw playing time. He's still very raw. I don't trust him in man coverage. He's very aggressive and plays zone coverage very well. I like his instincts but it's gonna take time to become a solid man coverage corner. With amik, terrion, Davis III and Mosely(should play coming off injury) being much better man coverage corners, which is the defensive philosophy AG likes to play, it's gonna be hard to get him the minutes he needs to develop. I do think rakestraw will get there eventually but it will take a couple seasons to grow for him.
There’s a reason why the lions moved Branch from nickel to safety… keep him on the field more .. look how many defensive snaps he had against the 49ers

As a die hard Football fan I love that physical Football is making a comeback, Michigan last year, Lions, Ravens, Eagles couple of years ago... You do realize that most teams throw upwards of 40 times a game still. They do this to offset the rush. Old time, John Elway averaged 30 passes a game. He was considered to have a big arm. Today, Ryan Fitzpatrick averaged 30 passes a game- He was a career journeyman backup. Old school football is not coming back. Some teams mean run heavy. Most exploit defensive matchups with WCO check down concepts.
