I know this is a bit late but wouldn't it be better if you upgrade an possesed weapon wit another possesed weapon let's say you want high fire damage and you level you're possesed weapon up to level 4 it has all te buffs you want and it has the fire damage however like you said you won't get any more buffs if you level it up to five so why don't you use that other possesed weapon with high fire damage as last level to increase the already high fire damage on the first possesed weapon or is-
