    The actual video start at 6:06, so you can skip the first 6 minutes of pathetic bashing and "look at me" from Bruce and get into it right away. Thank me later :)

    First, what's up with the snark? When "that girl with the fedora and flip-flops," aka Tiffany Angeles, did her demo, it was NOT for v-flats, it was to make painted backgrounds using polystyrene boards; they were never intended to be used as V-flats. Second, this exact process has been already demonstrated by Felix Kunze. I don't mean his regular V-flat demo, but the one he did on portables, using pretty much this identical procedure. Finally, this video needs editing.

      It was intended to be a V-flat video. They made it for Sue Bryce, and she uses V-flats. She even shared it in one of her workshops. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't an actual V-flat which is why I'm here. I agree, the snark is unnecessary. But we're all here because we wanted actual V-flats.

    This is amazing! I searched high and low for something that made sense, budget friendly, portable and a video that actually explains it. For years I have waited for a DIY video !!! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!

    So the"girl in the fedora" is a friend of mine AND I'm not sure what value gets added to your video by tearing her up. Your video creates value as a DIY (minus the negative comments against Tiffany). Guess what...there's room for both of you in the UA-cam world. Personally I would reshoot the how to without trashing another photographer and probably get more followers. Thanks for the info though. I'm going to make it, but not going to follow.

  • @tahomyjo

    It was totally not explained correctly to guide someone to actually make it following your directions. You kept turning it and throwing tape and saying after all that then yada yada without showing the actual process where you taped it and to what parts ? Maybe you could redo this video without being mean about another person and actually show the process completely

    I can see their value indoors at a permanent studio, but to travel with those things, I would just use a simple large collapsible backdrop that's white and black and just hang it on a light stand. I find the large collapsible backdrops can be very handy on location for photographic creativity...

    • @jas_bataille
      @jas_bataille 5 років тому

      A backdrop is a completely different thing. The whole point of a v-flat is that 1) it stands on it's own and 2) it can reflect one or more sources at two different angles. And you don't need a light stand to use a v-flat.

    i Liked this ESPECIALLY the part about the velcro. I already have 2 sets of V-flats made from the foam board at Home Depot and they are much sturdier than the 3/16th stuff. Seeing the use of velcro to hold them together I am going to tweak my sets then craft 2 more sets (from insulation) for travel purposes.

  • @josephboldt8065
    @josephboldt8065 6 років тому

    Brilliant! I was thinking of making 2 shorter separate pieces and just clamping then together on set to make a full sized V-flat, but I will definitely be making a version of this. It's not always available, but you using foam core that's two sided black/white gives you both fill and bounce plus negative fill.

    Just a quick tip ( doubles the cost & weight ) buy black and white board. Tape this together before you start then you’ll have one black side. Alternatively paint one side.

  • @onegreenev

    So you say don't take a portable V-Flat outside so it won't float away. Then what is the purpose of portable except for indoor on location. I'd rather make them portable but with stands so they won't blow away.

    • @TheBruceAllen
      @TheBruceAllen  4 роки тому

      Please reference the updated video. But they are portable because transporting them is easier. V-flats aren't for outdoor work. Their used for studio work. To either bounce light, remove light, or control light onto the backdrop.

    Spraying the adhesive on top of the sticky side of the tape is stupid. You don't know how the chemicals might mix over time and you might end up with an absolute mess of a panel in months from now. Gaffer tape is already expensive for a reason, it's great pro tape. You ruin it with the adhesive.
