Awesome video! I will make mine right now before a shoot. Thank you for this!
What a wonderful DIY project. Shoot, even I can do this! Thank you for sharing this!!
Just started this project today and ran out of tape on the 3rd panel - but more tape is coming tomorrow! Thanks again for this, and your sweatshirt is great :)
You just gave me one heck of a project, thanks!
Did these as well.. But I took 77 adhesive and but the same size foam board together to make black on one side and white on the other.. After about 30 mins I did the taping will gaffers...
this was my thought as well. how are they holding up for you?
Same here!
Thank you for sharing the video in the Felix group! This is an absolutely genius method of making cheap, transportable v-flats. I'm going to see if I can manage to paint one side black. :) Thanks again!
You can buy black panels at Hobby Lobby, same as the white ones. I just made one set of each - it's amazingly easy :)
You can cut the insulation boards 40x40 with a Sheetrock blade and put Velcro just like the vflat design.
You could but then you have to paint it. Good option though. 😊
Amazing job 👏
I tried making a foldable V-Flat out of white foam board and it didn't really work for me the way I wanted. The problem was that the foam board was too translucent and the light actually lit up the foam board and made it like a giant white light source rather than a flag. I really wanted both sides to be white as I was using it for high key photography. Did you run into any of that with your white ones? I think if I do it again I will either get thicker board, or paint it white.
Hey Bobbie,
Thanks for the awesome video! Hobby Lobby here I come :)
What size are these boards?
Thanks for doing this! Great job.
How do they hold up as far as standing? I was thinking of either creating a brace like stand or even doubling the foam for each panel and doing the steps you’ve shown here to thicken the support of the v flat. Thoughts?
Marcus Byrd Mine stand up fine and work great without a stand.
Good afternoon which matrial and made these plates you can tell me since already thank you very much for your attention
Where did you buy the fabric backdrop in back of you?
good job; much simpler than Bruce Allen's demo.
Am stuck at the Velcro part I wish I can see it up close 🙈
You’re a hero!
Thanks for sharing Bobbie.
Great work !
can I ask you where did you buy the foam? I'm from italy and on Amazon I can't find a correct width, just 3mm.
thank you!
you can buy any width. I have found thicker the better
This is brilliant!, but I thought you'd put the white side in there too
Thank you! I made separate vflats but I do know some people have doubled the foam boards to make them double sided.
great idea will be making them next week does the Velcro stay on well. When I use it on projects the prickly pulls he other side off.
My Velcro will not stay adhered to the flat
Brillant!!!!!
what type of tape did you use, both colors?
Keith Johnson Gaffer Tape
Great video. What is that background you are using?
The backdrop is from B&H Photo.
Question, did you tape the four sides of each individual foam board befroe you put them all together?
I did not. I really didn't feel it needed it.
brillant thanks a lot
Great video but far beyond $20 each. The boards alone cost about $11 each now add Gaffers tape $30+ for two rolls, Velcro a few more bucks. About $100 for what she built was the cheapest I could find. If you want to make them double sided like "RobZimiga" commented. Double the cost for one so $200. So it's really not cheaper than buying them off Amazon. Unless you can find the black one side and white the other foam core, which I have not been able to locate anywhere locally yet.
If you can get a 25% coupon for Michaels or maybe find a better deal some where you might save some money, if not it's better to just order them off amazon, if you want double sided.
Hi NicoSimonPrincely, Depending on where and what you purchase will determine your price. I purchased each board for $4-ish which was 40% off @Hobbylobby and ordered the gaffer tape off of Amazon for $17 a roll. I did not use a whole roll on a v-flat so I estimated the price from what I used. The velcor was $2. So the price was right around $20 per v-flat, much cheaper than you could buy them.
Very interesting video, sadly the audio (which is very important) let it down. Thank you for sharing I followed your instructuons to the end..
Thanks
No difference between these and V-Flatworld :)
There is one difference, in particular. The V-Flat World v-flats are made from 1/2" thick foam core vs. the 3/16" thick foam core you, typically, find at Hobby Lobby. They should be sturdier and should hold up longer. It's much harder to find 1/2" thick foam core outside of art supply stores and it costs a lot more. The local Jerry's Artarama has 32" x 40" x 1/2" white foam core on sale for $7.99 a sheet. The black 32" x 40" x 1/2" sheets are $9.99 on sale.
