- Well well...after a month of Crusader Kings 3, Tommy has figured out that this game just isn't like CK2 where it's a lot about roleplay and characters. In Tommy's view the game lacks in these departments so he decided the best way to enjoy the game and play it is just to treat it as non RP game and go for all achievements aka get 100% in CK3. So the CK3 100% Series begins with this video, Tommy will over time try to get all achievements.
Keep in mind that since 250k sub goal hasn't been reached yet (which lasts until November 1st), no one can hold Tommy accountable to actually get 100%. This is purely on his own accord now and if the 250k goal is reached by November then you guys can hold him accountable as you like.
Until then, we have one of the easiest achievements which is to form Ireland in the Emerald Isle achievement.

ikr its literally every CK2/CK3/EU4 game with this guy:
1)do hard achievement with bad country
2) complain the whole video of why its the games fault

I started as a count and got the Rome achievement; however it was a count in the Byzantine empire. I worked my way up, and did role play. Besides a queen of mine that was shy, fuck the shy trait.

All of the interesting roleplay in ck2 came from dlc and updates. ck3 will be great one day you'll just have to wait a few years.

Yeah, Reapers Due, Way of Life, Conclave, Monks and Mystics (for all the shit that it got, societies really gave you a LOT to RP towards besides just expansion) and even Holy Fury to an extent. Not to mention all the events for Pagans, Muslims, Jews etc. from the religion DLCs that unlocked them.
I think a lot of the freeform choices they added make it difficult though. I feel like there should be some kind of a reaction when my nudist female-dominated Shia islamic faith Sultana goes to Hajj with her harem, but I get that takes time to account for every weird permutation

I haven't watched the streams, so maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand Tommy's criticisms regarding roleplay in CK3. He says in this video that the game is just "claim, war, repeat", but there are other ways to expand than just warfare. With intrigue and diplomacy you can expand without ever going to war. I'm not a streamer, and it's not fair for me to say that's he's roleplaying wrong, but isn't part of roleplaying immersing yourself in the events of game, even the ones that mess up your plans and cause setbacks? Real life is full of those things, but maybe being a streamer is putting pressure on him to always win and succeed? No matter how he chooses to play, I'd much rather watch his content knowing he's enjoying himself rather than suffering for the masses.
Claims are much easier to gain in ck3 and are guaranteed, plus you can just claim duchy titles so easy now. Ck2 you were only ever given a small 2-5% chance a year to get a claim, and normally just a county. So the intrigue was more important, building alliances, marrying into more land, getting claimants to join your court to push thier claim and more.
I think CK3 needs some time for the role play to flesh out and an actual plan (shivers at Imperator). As a core game its great but obviously after years of CK2 content, its hard to compare them with the role play elements. I remember trying CK2 in 2012 and was like meh. Then I returned to it 2 years later and it was so different (in a good way) lol. Like so many events were fleshed out, stuff would escalate really interestingly.
What I think CK3 would benefit from, updates that focus on expanding the culture system to create region and culture specific events. Right now, like what Tommy said, you essentially play everyone the same way, which is exactly the problem with Imperator (all the nations are exactly the same, just with different paint), but not as severe as Imperator.
Imagine events where you're a Frank Feudal Duke in Dublin. Your culture butt heads with the region as you try to assimilate/ cooperate with them, plus tribal leaders you vassalized are pessimistic on your fuedal system as that's a change on their way of life. This would also set the foundation for cultural issues in the same faiths. More culture clash events would really help expand the rp.

I really enjoy ck3 and i think ck3 is in a lot of things better than ck2 but sadly (like all PDX games) if you want more awesome stuff in ck3 you need to get DLCs. Just look what ck2 was at the beginning, you couldn't even play as non-christians and after idk 6 or 7 years it was just epic. And i believe the same will happen with ck3

Gotta say, the CK2 World of Warcraft campaigns were the fucking best, I wish we got a whole series out of that. Idk why, but the editing and the shit that can happen is just so much more entertaining than CK3. CK3 is just a medieval map painter, CK2 is a roleplayers game.

CK3 is still barren. CK2 has huge amount of DLC and storytelling. This legit looks just like a frame for future dlcs
Well CK2 was also shite when it came out. So was EUIV. So was HOI4. Don’t forget the poster boy, Imperator (such a complete disappointment even now). It is the way of newish Paradox Games.
Personally, I don’t even like the Imperator style graphics. I don’t like the UI for whatever reason. I much prefer what they had in CK2. But I feel like that’s just me.
In a few years, the game will be bearable to play. In another few, it will be good and become a classic like CK2. In another few, it will be great. We just have to bide our time while they shit out the DLC.
You're not wrong. Base games nowadays always tease or purposefully hold back content that is planned to be further fleshed out when the DLC is released. Usually for DLC to focus on flushing out one thing and one thing at a time entirely while altering other elements of the game.

A Paradox game takes time to bloom into the amazing game they can be. That's true even for the acquired Cities Skyline. Gets better with age. And it's not like most triple A games these days, that you don't even get a full game at the start. These games are full games, but, they all have the potential to grow even further.

So like, what's so great about CK2's roleplay ability? I have 700hrs in CK2 but I think that CK3 is superior for roleplay already. Not a perfect game, but what it does many things far better. Roleplayability is one of them if you ask me.

Because it doesnt. No character feels special. Theres no good peacetime event lines. All the interesting shit you can do within 5 hours and thats you done with the best that this game has to offer, and playing in england feels no different than playing in sicily. Its going to be another 2 years before the game becomes a true successor to ck2, which shouldnt surprise anyone at this point, with it being a paradox game.

I agree there is very little RP/stuff to do in peace time. In CK2 I was happy to stay at peace let my country prosper, raise my children and write a book. There just not a lot to do in peace time in CK3 yet.
Try a small Polish country like Prussia and become Germany or maybe 1700s Prussia.
CK2 would be cool sometimes. Or any of Paradox's other games that arent empty like CK3 lol.
