    Some great fashion designers are forgotten due to various reasons. Fashion is a fast-changing industry, and designers who once thrived may fall out of favor as trends evolve. If their style becomes outdated or doesn’t align with new cultural movements, they may be overshadowed by others who better capture the spirit of the time.
    Another factor is the lack of proper archiving. If designers’ works aren’t preserved through exhibitions or media, their contributions risk being lost. Historical disruptions, like wars or economic crises, have also cut short the careers of many designers, making it difficult for their legacies to endure.
    Business challenges play a role as well. Designers who failed to establish lasting brands or adapt to changing markets often disappeared, while houses like Chanel or Dior survived through strategic evolution. Some talented individuals were also overshadowed by more famous contemporaries who had better marketing or influential patrons.
    In some cases, exclusivity limited a designer’s impact-those catering only to small, elite circles may not have gained broad recognition. Finally, the way fashion history is told shapes public memory…What do you think ?

    You're absolutely right about Griffe. He does deserve more recognition! He's one of those designers from that era that should have several coffee table books about him. His designs are so pleasing to the eye.

      You are absolutely right… As time shows, only those who thought in terms of marketing and strategy remained in memory. But many more people possessed talent.❤

    Absolute perfection. He collected skills like pearls and with his immense talent and creativity, he offered the resulting beauty to the world. Thank you for keeping the memory of him alive and sharing with us. How some people never get the recognition they should always puzzled me. He had love, passion, skill, creativity, sense of beauty and he worked hard.

    Thank you for this wonder presentation. It is obvious that designers who were contemporaries or came after were influenced by his creative genius. It is unfortunate that he has not been publicly lauded for influencing those like Coco Chanel, YSL Edith Head etc. And, yes, I include Edit Head because one can see his influence in the beautiful gowns that came out of her studio. And, yes, times change as do fabrics but elegant lines and class remain.

    As someone who is completely OBSESSED with Fashion especially Couture, I can't believe that I have NEVER been aware of this completely AMAZING and TALENTED designer!!! I have a degree in Fashion and this designer was NEVER mentioned in the remotest way, how sad!!! He definitely DESERVES to be at the forefront!!!! Yes I do see the Dior similarities however this is much more exquisite in my opinion. This reminds me of another Fashion Designer that doesn't get the accolades he DESERVES when I found out about him and that is Ralph Ricci who designed Chado. Just beyond speechless his designs. He no longer to my knowledge designs, again, how sad!! THANK YOU for this wonderful educational video!!!!!!!

His designs were BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, AWESOME and absolutely worth recognition. In fact I myself am a seamstress and I want to recreate some of these beautiful gowns !!!😍😍😍😍😍😍

    Beautiful! The clothes of my 2950-60 growing up years when women were so very Feminine and Held a certain Mystique about them. Today Celebrities, Designers and women believe going 3/4 naked is Fashion and appropriate. I don't watch Any award shows any longer as they are like Strip Club Outfits and attention Freak Shows who can show up the most Un-dressed.

    It appears that M. Griffe had his own line of perfumes, but oddly it was Carven that came out with one called Ma Griffe. Coincidence, tribute or appropriation? Can you comment? And thank you for this lovely presentation of the work of fashion lovers should know.

    • @FashionQuestion
      @FashionQuestion  Місяць тому

      Thanks for the question!
      Ma Griffe, a signature perfume from Carven, debuted in 1946 and played a pivotal role in establishing the brand. The perfume, whose name translates to “My Signature,” is known for its bold green floral chypre composition, blending fresh, youthful notes with elegance. Jean Carles, a master perfumer known for his ability to craft scents even after losing his sense of smell, created Ma Griffe.
      The fragrance became famous not just for its distinctive scent but also for its innovative launch. In a memorable promotional stunt, Carven released hundreds of green-and-white striped parachutes carrying perfume samples over Paris, ensuring the scent reached key events and fashionable locations. This bold approach helped the perfume become synonymous with sophistication and youth at a time when high fashion often catered to older women.
      The perfume was revived in various iterations over the years, continuing to capture the essence of effortless Parisian charm. Carven also became known for other fragrances and expanded into ready-to-wear collections, ensuring its lasting influence on both fashion and perfumes…😉

    Recognition only goes to those that give millions of dollars 💰 in "donations". It is not artistry that matters, but sponsorship. Fashion history is about the people who pay the writers and researchers salaries!

      So THAT'S THE REASON Behind it 🤔🤔🤔 It's always about the money isn't it. Sponsorship. Well, the world kind of lost out, because Jacques Bridge was a highly skilled designer, cutter and every bit of fabric he put his hands on. Not ALL top designers can say that. I salute this man for his accomplishments. He's truly made a woman look super gorgeous.!!!!! 😍

    Fantastic but there were and are virtually no women who these designs work for. All for excessively thin with extremely elongated upper bodies which represent such a small percentage of real people. People carry on today about thin models look at these girls at a time when women were generally shorter than today and slim meant plump by our standards. Watch any tv series for the time and see

      Fashion works on so many levels: Pure Beauty, formal innovation in construction and shape: the role of the world's great photographers; the development of new images of women expressing their time - always new beauty for a new era. I'm fascinated by the change in design and the jump in the self-conception from the 50's to early sixties. There were two big "feminist" eras, alternating with returns to traditionalism. I love them all. }

      Would be fine for me. I’m medium thin not really thin. But I have a long waist a small waist. I’m not tall but I’ve never been able to wear one piece swim suits or dresses. Every dress I’ve ever tried on the waist of the dress is several inches above my natural waist. There are many long torso women but the fashion industry refuses to make clothes for us
