  • A blue jay is persistent in pestering E9. It may have a nest close by and is reacting normally, a means of protecting the nest and territory. As I watched, I thought about how even the interaction between these two is preparing E9 for survival in the soon-to-be bigger world of larger birds. You will hear me talk about it in the video. E9 seems content to perch and play with bark in the pond snag after one early flight past the offices and back.
    Thank you SWFEC, hosted by Dick Pritchett Real Estate, for maintaining such a suitable tree and environment for our Bald Eagle Family. www.dickpritche...

    Hello, I discovered this family of eagles from the Live ABC NEWS app back in December. So happy that I did because I would check on them morning and night. I have grown close to them because of ABC and after E9 started venturing from the nest, they stopped showing the Live shots. So glad I found them here on UA-cam. Just want to thank you and all who make these viewings possible to those of us who are far away from eagles. I live in a lightly wooded area and get to see Brown hawks hunt and terrorize the local blue jays and squirrels, so I knew what the jays were up to with E9. They warn other critters there is a predator nearby. Poor E9, he wasn't going to harm anyone...JUST YET, but only being a baby and discovering the world. Also, love your dialogue to him....

    Thanks for this video! I saw the blue jay dive bomb him the other morning on the webcam, but didn't know what was going on. There must be a nest close by that he was protecting. E9 doesn't know he's a predator yet, so he was like, "Dude...wtf?!" I saw a bunch of smaller birds leaving a knothole in that old dead tree, so maybe the nest is in there. Thanks again!

    • @wskrsnwings
      @wskrsnwings  7 років тому

      Hi Linda k. Yes, M15 and Harriet will continue to feed E9 as long as he is there. Iit is normal for them to pick at the bark... they are getting the "feel" of
      different textures and also finding out what is edible or not.

    Lady Hawk do you think E9 will catch that bird as food or how much longer will it take for E9 to start hunting and the other thing is will the parents go after it if it continues to bother him

    • @jenzclc
      @jenzclc 7 років тому +1

      ps. this is wskrsnwings (Vicki). Ladywalk posts live feed cam videos and doesn't narrate like Wskrsmwings does. 😊

    • @wskrsnwings
      @wskrsnwings  7 років тому

      Angela Luttrell, successfully catching prey will be a while coming. It takes skill to catch any prey. The fledglings/juveniles main food source for at least the first year and maybe through their fifth year to maturity will be stealing and eating roadkill.

    • @wskrsnwings
      @wskrsnwings  7 років тому

      Angela Luttrell, the smaller birds pestering the eagles are a way of life as with all birds, large or small, who go after other birds to protect their territory. The Eagles, juvenile and adult, ignore them, or warn them some, or go to a different spot to perch.

    • @wskrsnwings
      @wskrsnwings  7 років тому +1

      Angela Luttrell I am Wskrsnwings. Lady Hawk dies the videos from the live feed and is a different person from me. She has very nice videos of what is seen through the line feed's "eyes".

    Hello Ladyhawk, I have two questions. 1 -Is it normal for a young bald eagle to pick at the bark on a tree like E9 is? and 2- Did E9 hurt his foot or claw or talon? (sorry not sure of the correct term. ) Thanks

    • @wskrsnwings
      @wskrsnwings  7 років тому

      Hello Javin. I am Wskrsnwings who does the ground videos with narration. Lady Hawk is a videographer who does videos from the cam feeds online. Yes, it is normal to ppick at the bark... they are getting the "feel" of different textures and also finding out what is edible or not. E9 did not hurt his foot or talons. Here is more information on that: Why do birds stand on one leg?
      It’s an adaptation called “rete mirabile” where the arteries that transport warm blood into the legs lie in contact with the veins that return colder blood to the bird’s heart. By tucking one leg up, birds reduce by half the amount of heat lost through their unfeathered limbs.
      Also when you see them stretch the foot away from their body (not gripping the perch) it is to relax the foot and since their body temperature is so warm it also helps to cool it when it isn't so close to the body. Source: Dr. Glenn
      Tattersall from Brock University.

    where do they go when they leave?

    • @wskrsnwings
      @wskrsnwings  7 років тому +1

      Hi Terri. The young juveniles go north, sometimes as far as Canada, usually Chesapeake Bay according to our state wildlife officials. Then they will rerun each winter and migrate again in the spring/summer.

      No, Rose, that is normal. Here is some information about this: Why do birds stand on one leg?
