BMW and MINI Space Saver Spare Kits:

Later model BMWs and MINIs that are delivered with run-flat tires do not come with a spare tire or a jack and tools. Many owners replace the run-flat tires with standard tires. This may be for one or more of the following reasons; a) cost, b) ride comfort, c) availability.
Once the run-flats are removed, a spare tire and associated tools should be kept in the vehicle. Additionally, many owners prefer to have the peace of mind that comes with having a spare tire on-board even when run-flat tires are being used.
Finally, if a run-flat tire is damaged by road debris or deterioration, it will not be usable to run on (no continued driving) and the vehicle will be disabled just as if it had standard tires on it. Calling a service truck is not of much help, as they will not have a replacement tire on-board (or the equipment to install one). The space-saver spare will allow the vehicle owner or even a service truck to get the vehicle back on the road.

hello there, thanks for doing these videos they are very useful and have a lot information about the DIY work on the BMW's. I have only one question is it possible to change regular tires for the runflat tires? if so, do I need to do and special work on them?. Hope you can help me with this.. Thank you very much.
Very simple video for my wife. She just watched me doing it but is good to have it as reference when she will be in a bind. And yes I had to use it 2 months after I bought the car. Unfortunate but it happens. Luckily my X1 came with the spare tire and tools. No run flats.

I have a 2001 530i with Halogen headlights and the passenger side bulbs seem to be shinning much lower than they should be. I can actually move the low-beam bulb up and down and this greatly changes the distance that the light travels. I was wondering if there is a way to fix this. Thanks
My car is an E92 335i and have different tire sizes front/ rear. Does the spare tire in your kit be used in this case?
Yes you can, the space saver tire is anyway not of the size of the others
I know this off topic but I would really appreciate if you can give me a torque setting as I do not have the Bentley manual....its for a 1997 328i flex disk / guibo bolts 6 of them thanks a lot in advance if you can help me out.
It's 72 ft-lb, or 100 Nm for my 97 E39 528. I guess yours should be similar if not identical.
Most new BMW do not come with a spare tire or jack. My question is specific to the jack itself. Can you use any standard scissor jack type of jack? Or must you have a special one from BMW? Asking because your jack seems to fit neatly in the plastic rubber spot under the car. It would be a pain if that means you need to use only a BMW jack.

I just did this and pulling on the tire it didn’t want to come off, I put the bolts back on.

I keep a MINI steel wheel at home and a jack in the boot. If I get a flat I just have to call someone for them to bring it to me. Better than having to use that gunk, and then buy a new tyre!

Re-fit 2 lug nuts, but leave them about 1/4" out.
Sit on the ground and kick the tyre with the bottom of your foot, as hard as you can.
Do not get your legs/feet under the car.
This mostly works.
good video, and a perfect procedural method. but one amendment: the wrench of the car‘s tool kit is a joke. Not even a professional weightlifter will be able to to unfasten the five nuts with this toy if the nuts previously have been fastened in a garage from a mechanic with an air gun. I‘ve got myself a nice 200 Nm torque wrench. You‘ll also need a torque wrench to fasten the nuts to their correct torque of 120+-10Nm.
It is useful to also check the unused spare tyre for its pressure from time to time, otherwise you run the risk of exchanging a flat tyre for a flat tyre…
