Just wanted to say I had a leaky whale pump in my 2007 Bailey Senator, I presumed a £400 pound trip to the caravan shop. After watching this great video I removed my pump, serviced it and replaced it. No leaks job done. and if you would ne happy to supply your email £20-oo tip for doing it in the first place.

Thanks for useful video. I have an FP0814 and was able to fix from this video. My problem was that it periodically tried to pump with the tap closed. Your video gave me the confidence to dismantle it and I reckoned the problem lay with the one (or more) of the four smaller light grey "valves". Carefully popped out all the valves and spotted some minute white particles on their sealing faces (I fill up most often with hard water) so rinsed them all off and put them back in and reassembled. My FP0814 seemed to have an extra metal washer which slipped out before I could spot where it came from. All back together, no leaks and on test it sat for 30 minutes without a single intermittent pump. Perfect. Dead chuffed! Thanks.

The saga of my water pump in my series 1 Unicorn. After problems with a noisy pump and what appeared to be non return valve issues I decided to carefully follow your excellent video and strip it to fix it. What I wasn't expecting was the micro switch assembly in the top motor housing to fall out. I had to guess which order the 4 components went back. After a while I reasoned they could only go back one way. So after a good clean out I reassembled the pump only to find that, although the motor worked it wouldn't pump water. Four times I took it apart trying to find why until I finally tried a bit of silicone sealant on the mating surfaces. Shouldn't need it but it worked. It actually pumped water ------ until it wouldn't shut off !!
I was confident I had put the micro switch assembly back right but it just wouldn't shut off, chucking water out of the pump all over the floor. Enough of all this !! I bought a new one today and fitted it. I needed to altar the infeed pipe a bit but although these newer pumps are said to be quieter I can't detect much difference. In fairness my wife pointed out that it's often better to hear the pump working. Many times we've been unaware the water container was empty and hearing the pump working alerted us.

Hi Phillip, Sounds like you’ve had fun with the pump 🤔 Our old pump gave up in May. We got on site, set up, turned the pump on and nothing happened. We managed to get a new one that day and fitted it. It was initially quieter but got louder as the week went on. I would say the noise is different each time we go away, I like you have resigned myself to the fact that the pump will always be noisy. Part of the problem is that noise travels fantastically through a floor of a caravan. If I ever find a solution to make it quiet I will of course video it. 🙂 Thanks for comments & watching, Martin 🙂

Just a tip😉,just fixed whale 8014,really dirty ,used that vid here.want to add:make sure everything is tight on assembly.my problem was air suction from the pump assembly, from ware and tare, little wd40 on the caskets helps to fit quick, all screws need tight well,no seems should be seen at the last 4 long screws 😉still don’t strip the treads!it’s only plastic 😆..and the vid helped me a lot!vacuum leaks are not just on the fittings.my problem started after I did clean the system with white vinegar.as recommended by the seller .I don’t believe that’s good for the rubbers .😉

Great vid Martin - and job done by the look of it ! - I know that pump has bugged you from day 1. I had to get a replacement Flojet pump earlier this year when my pump would not work at all on my first trip of the year -( whole week without water !) . I disassembled on site to see if i could get it going and found it was just the pressure valve and was prepared just to buy and fit that, but found out it was covered by my 12 month warranty so Lowdhams, Huddersfield replaced the whole pump FOC.
    Good work Martin !

Hi Howard, I’ve been playing around with it again this morning, dropped the water and refilled it. It is quieter, I think I just need to resign myself to the thought of that’s what it’s supposed to be like! Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 👍

Thanks so much for this video, really gave me confidence to open up... however when I got to the grey diaphragm, I notice when I opened up and looked closer there were some slits on the outside circumference on two of the circles, hence the reason why water was leaking from the pump. Your video didn't show any slits or cuts on the rubber diaphragm. None the less, I was able to diagnose the problem, I couldn't find a replacement grey diaphragm online so I am buying a replacement head instead and hope this solves the problem. Thanks so much for this helpful video.

IMPORTANT! When dismantling the unit pay attention to the stainless steel washer and O ring. As previously mentioned make sure that the screws are all tight (the diaphragm may need wriggling to seat the screw holes properly. Lastly, there’s a tiny O ring around the head of the longest screw, ensuring that was in the centre of the washer when tightening seemed to do the trick ( would be easy for the screw not to sit in the middle of the hole and ride up. It took me 3 goes to get this sealed🤦‍♂️ but working well now and not pulsing. My comments will make sense once you get to reassembling.

Hi, and thanks for this useful video. However we have done everything (we think) that you have explained and now we don’t have any water coming through at all. There is one thing we are not sure of which is that two components, we think, of the micro switch came away and although we have put them back as we think they should be it may be incorrect. The bits that came out were both white plastic. One was a sort of cylindrical component with a narrower cylinder and a wider cylinder, the narrower bit fitted in to touch a spring which had not come out. The other bit was an arm with a rectangular end, which could fit on the narrow cylinder end so that it could swing left or right if we have it in correctly. The top of the rectangle had an indentation…not sure what for. The bottom could fit over what we think is the micro switch as this would click when pressure is applied. We are not sure what to do now and we are in France for a month where getting a replacement pump is very difficult. Any comments or help gratefully received.

Why not simply run a descaler through your system once a year? I use Fernox descaler in a gallon of very warm water drawn into the system, leave for an hour or so, open each tap slowly to allow descaler to work within the taps then thoroughly flush system through. Cleans the pump of scale and all the water lines and of course, the internals and heads of the taps. I normally do this at the end of the season prior to the normal system clean-out with Puriclean.

Good instructional video, well done. My diaphragms were very worn so I replaced them with a Whale service kit, however I have been unable to get the pressure back up. The pump runs a lot quieter, and water is flowing albeit very slowly, however not enough pressure to shut the pump off. Any thoughts?

Took the service kit off to return for credit, put original back on and it works fine now. Not sure how long it will last, but I think cleaning before replacing is a good option. Sadly this does not explain why a brand new kit wouldn't work. Just happy to have it up and running for now. @@TheCaravanNut

Hi, I tried this clean myself after issues with the pump switching on randomly and air getting into the system. I would have to turn the pump off at the switch so it doesn't drive me crackers. this causes a loss in pressure so when i switch it back on the pump operates as if its filling the cylinder up again and i have air in the hot side of the system. I've rang whale and they suggested the o rings for the air problem, which i have already changed. wondering if it would be worth changing the pump diagram head now? maybe the rubber has gone a little brittle and lost its elasticity and so is not holding the microswitch in the off position? Any ideas, Help :)
