Just saw Journey in concert last night 3/20/23. My daughter had got us tickets when I mentioned in passing I wish I would have went to a Journey concert when I was a kid. While excited to go, I didn’t expect the lead singer to meet the expectations of Steve Perry’s. I WAS WRONG! Arnel Pineda was FANTASTIC! I had no idea who he was until last night, I’ve read his story what an impressive man. Congratulations on your success!
Arnell Pinedas voice gives me goosebumps. That guy has gorgeous high notes...for a caliber band like Journey to see something and pick him....thats like winning the lottery.

Arnel is an underrated vocalist. He’s actually pretty amazing on what he can do with his vocals were only quite a few can actually do. Only those really gifted ones, I should say.
Arnel's awesome to hear and behold while performing. He's one singer who sings as if it's his last performance. Such a Total entertainer!! 🕺

Yes he's a great ambassador of the Philippines. But he's a great singer in his own right. It would have been so sad had he not been found on the Net. Credit to Journey for giving his a golden opportunity. But also Arnel gave the band a second lease of life. It's a win win situation all round. The fans also get to see the band live again and fresh

I love that Arnel had no professional training prior to journey yet still was amazing. Fronting Journey provided him with the professional tools to preserve and prolong his singing voice. I love all his covers with the zoo. He was able to sell me on every song. A true vocal chameleon. He is a great guy and I am a huge fan.
There is not a bigger Journey fan than me, but I love Arnel. He kept the legend of Journey alive, which very, very, very few vocalist could do.

A great Perry imitation- and there is nothing wrong with saying that. Perry is one of the best male voices in history and to be told you sound similar to him is a pretty nice compliment

That voice youre hearing now is a "past his prime" Arnel.. he had a lot more range and power in his voice in his 20's.. he was hired as a 40 year old by journey.. even now as a 50+ year old hes still belting it..
Yep, it’s a pity that most of the world didn’t get to hear Arnel at his peak. His technique has improved tho and that has helped him with longevity

If you've seen the documentary of Arnel's Everyman's journey, Jonathan Cain became his vocal coach while on tour and there was a part when they were in hotel in Manila, where Jonathan was teaching him the right pronunciation...😍love love Arnel..
Thanks Jonathan Cain for being Arnel's vocal coach. You have really taken good care of Arnel's singing prowess. Those concert tours he did with Journey was quite taxing for him, singing for hours.
Steve Perry is my favorite male singer of all time. Arnel is awesome, I'm so happy for him, Journey and Journey fans who can go see them in concert again. Arnel has tremendous energy and passion. Steve had tremendous passion but I'd say not quite as much energy as Arnel. Arnel is awesome to see and hear.
@CAR Jones Arnel has more energy because he uses guide vocals when he does his karate kid act onstage, backup lead vocalist singing a bunch of songs, shows are an hour shorter than Steve Perry, Arnel sings 2-3 nights for 4-5 months vs. Steve Perry 5-6 nights in a row for 10 months at a time. Band also lowered key for songs in 2012. Get real, seriously.

@@nprich8913 Perry isn’t even going back to Journey so your argument is pointless. I was just informing y’all that Arnel can jump around onstage while singing with asthma because he uses guide vocals. He also started using autotune live singing starting in 2021.

Not a fan of reaction videos but love this. A real teacher. Reaction in the truest sense of the word. Arnel is incredibly talented but as a critic, you are equally talented, Adam.
I am guilty of not wanting to hear Steve's replacement. However just last year I listened to Arnel and was so impressed. I really do love his voice and love that he was discovered on You Tube.
Just to point it out, Steve Perry's replacement was Steve Augeri. Arnel replaced Jeff Scott Soto. Here's the sequence of Journey's lead vocalists. Perry, Augeri Soto, & Pineda
And now Arnels been the longest standing Journey frontman and most obviously ever ... Your grandchildren will not know any other Journey singer, except for Arnel. Thats it.

I love all the classic music.. but Arnels voice is so powerful and the soul on his voice is so amazing. He always brings me to tears.

What a raw voice!. In my honest opinion, nobody can top Steve's voice when singing journeys' ballad songs, but when it comes to who has the most talent, I prefer Arnel, because he is a TOTAL PERFORMER. He can rile-up people by his moves and most of all, he can sing ROCK SONGS, which I believe up to these days, best suited for his voice. Please make a reaction of him singing ROXANNE and also try to google young Arnel Pineda singing others songs. You will be surprised how his voice was way better than today.
Arnel's keeping Journey's legacy alive and kicking thru time thank u arnel we still hear our favorite songs of Journey.
I have seen the Journey live in concert in Hawaii. I love this group Steve perry is a legend now that they have Arnel who does a talented and am proud he is also Filipino like me. We Filipinos will support him forever. . I would not want another replacement for Steve but with Arnel giving good rendition of journey’s song I accept . Go!Go! Arnel
I went to see Arnel twice the first time Journey performed there with Arnel....Actually threw a party for him before their concerts and luckily to have a chat with him...I.ve have never admired any Filipino singer like I do with him...his voice is a muzak to my ears!
wow! I am 78 my daughter introduced me to Journey, love this ! In 2008 I asked her who was her favorite band, I have seven children took in cousin who introduced us to CCR 1974 all kinds of music in their rooms but I loved country, since my husband died in 06 he liked all that forties and fifties stuff, I am so lucky to be able to enjoy so many things on you.tube!!!!

They didn’t have AutoTune back in the days that Steve Perry recorded and did live performances non-stop. Steve Perry does not believe in AutoTune. Not many singers these days can say that.

Thank you! That put off all negative comments about Arnel. All haters thought that anyone could sing the songs of Journey, saying he's too karaoke. If what they were saying was true, Neal Schon and the rest of the Journey, shouldnt have had such a hard time looking for the new lead singer. I know he's very talented but I have more admiration for him now.
Had the pleasure to see Arnel perform in SF recently. Definitely a gifted singer. Journey struck gold by finding him!

Great observation Adam! One thing to note is that he was in a bar cover band that would play almost everyday of the week from afternoon to sometimes 2am as very common in the Philippines so his voice could've been fatigued making reaching the higher notes more difficult. I also observed just from watching journey live throughout the arnel years from 2008 to present that the 10+ years of continuously touring has had quite a toll on his vocal range and vocal quality. IMO Arnel in 2012 was the peak.
He is a great talent, Steve was always my favorite singer and this kid is just as good! What a great story!

I used to watch him together with friends in shakey's pizza restaurant with a live band. He was 15 yesrs old then. He performed with the late yhoz band later amo band.

I am a die hard Journey fan. I must admit I was not up to seeing anyone replace Steve Perry. When I was five years old Steve Perry's voice made me cry and fall in love at the same time. And I didn't know what love was but he made me feel it. Lol. When I heard Arnel's voice it is absolutely undeniably amazing. His range is insane. I will give him his props and congratulate him on his success. He is living his dreams of performing on Legendary Journey status. I did have to watch this video a few times because Adam is so cute and very distracting I kept forgetting to watch the video.😍

As a long time Journey fan, I’ve enjoyed all the way from Escape as one of my first album purchases as a kid, to Raised on Radio in concert at the Ohio State Fair... my musical tastes have expanded so much in the last couple decades. Heck, have had phases focusing on genres from death metal to contemporary Christian to lately sound tracks from Korean dramas (and some Chinese dramas!) lol. Throughout it all though, Journey has always remained my favorite all time band, even after Steve left. I was never an Arnel hater, he sounds different but similar to Steve in my poorly cultured ears! I really enjoyed your commentary, and it’s given me something to consider and was informative. Thanks! 😉😊
