Its not surprising so many people buy properties and think they can renovate them but then find they can’t because of an absence of skills. The fault lays with all the tv programmes that portray a false image and lack of truth behind what is involved.
Comment about marble is SO true. Using marble in a kitchen or bath counter will soon be terribly stained. But use granite or some manufactured surface.

I never understand why people with long hair don't tie it up when doing renovations. It is so annoying to have hair all over the place when you are bending over or doing something tricky.

Actually, porcelain for worktops is incredible- beautiful, and both fully heat and stain resistant!
I've had white carrara marble countertops in my kitchen for twelve years -- no stains, no problems.
