- In an interview for the FRONTLINE documentary “Pelosi’s Power,” Judy Lemons, who served as Nancy Pelosi’s chief of staff from 1987 to 2002, discusses Pelosi’s approach to legislating.
“The elements of her leadership have to do with her persuasiveness, her commitment, and her ability to count votes and to appeal to people about a particular avenue that might concern them,” she tells FRONTLINE.
The following interview was conducted by FRONTLINE’s Michael Kirk on Nov. 15, 2021. It has been edited for clarity and length.

I have always respected Speaker Pelosi. This interview elevated her to "hero status," in my opinion. Nancy was lucky to have someone like Judy Lemons in her corner. I am sure Judy felt the same about Nancy. Great interview.

Pelosi was the AOC of her time. It was incredibly difficult to be a woman in politics and be taken seriously back then, even in the Democratic Party.

This is the 4th person in this interview. He seemed to side with the Republican guy more than the other three that are loyal to Pelosi. The interviewer may not be aware of trying to put her back in the kitchen syndrome with his questioning.
We're navigating the most dangerous time in American history due to Putin-like internal enemies. More than ever I'm grateful Speaker Nancy Pelosi is
on guard. She's irreplaceable but I wish there were hundreds more with her intelligence, knowledge, strategic skills and deep love and loyalty for America in Congress.

It was good hearing Nancy able to be so relaxed in discussing the current situation. She's immensely experienced and interesting, but her commitment to perform her leadership roles, honourably contrasts with an opposition Party who are selfish enough to use their political roles as sport. It is not, the consequences on the public are seriously life changing.

Nancy learned her updated ( from childhood) politics from the Democrats in SF. Phil Burton when he was alive, his brother John and Willie Brown, who was Speaker in CA for longer than any Speaker in history of CA. His speakership was a parallel with Nancy’s…Republicans much like Nancy’s in Congress were after him in state legislature! George Miller was her brilliant mentor for many years. Do not underestimate the political examples of success Nancy saw in Democrats in SF…lots of good advice from them. Nancy and her oldest daughter Christine were a dynamic lduo when Nancy was chair of the CA Democratic Party. Christine followed her as CA. Chair.
Dunno, If Paul still buys her clothes, but he used to buy hee clothes for her. Pelosi is fashionable. Republicans never put their own women up for top jobs in Congress so Nancy was always a reproach to Republicans’ lack of confidence in women period.

Again, why the heck this interviewer keeps asking about feelings, feelings, feelings when talking about apex level political figures bewilders me. Everyone has them but you simply cannot succeed in that arena, either as a Member or as staff, if you're ruled by them.
