We have a new series of Anywhere but Washington for the 2020 US presidential election. You can watch the first episode here if you want: ua-cam.com/video/OzGL2s2n_QY/v-deo.html
im the dumbest guy you've ever met in your whole life- gary johnson
Poly Clot
That's a nice campaign slogan.
Poly, I can't tell if he is telling a joke, being schmoozy or giving a confession.
david stanley whatever it is, he is failing at it.
This is a crafted story. Bernie Sanders had millions of young people excited in the first part of the video, but young people don't care in the rest. They are trying to shame young people into voting for Hillary. They couldn't say Hillary so they crafted it as they should be voting for Johnson, whom no one will vote for.
OMG! "Stop smoking pot and going to parties all the time..." I guarantee that guy has taken way more drugs than me.
Sweet ol' Grandma singing "god bless america." That was the best part of the video.
Was needed after that disastrous statement bout Hillary being a woman, and how we need a woman pres. :- D
0:30 damn it feels gud to be a gangsta
*Goes to football game to find people interested in politics*
I went to a scuba club and asked about skydiving, most of them didn't know who Gary Johnson was
The point is that they are a huge demographic of mindless fucks who if they actually took a second to give a single fuck, their vote could potentially change the election one way or another.
@Brian McElroy but is the lack of their vote a great loss to the political discourse? I've never understood the great virtue put on voting. We should put virtue on studying candidates. If someone takes the time to study they're probably going to go ahead and act on it and if they don't I'd just as soon they don't vote either.
They would probably vote for trump anyways
Not only that but a university of Arizona football game hahah. Can’t get much worst than that
You have two of the most disliked presidential candidates in history against each other, of course millennial voters are turned off by them.
Dislike, because there are so many idiots in the country who vote based on whether or not a candidate said mean things! Generation Snow flakes!
Adam Perez I think a lot of what ails you is a right wing smear campaign against the Clintons. No politician is perfect and we all have to do whatever we can after this result to make sure that the kind of party infighting which led to Clinton getting the nomination doesn't continue to happen.
The truth is though that Bernie Sanders would not have beaten Trump and you would be looking at a racist right wing dictator in charge of the world's largest capitalist democracy! ? !
Hilary Clinton lies like a politician whereas Donald Trump lies like a corporate swindler.
The whole system is awash with money and that is the problem.
We need campaigns paid for by the public sector so that everyone has the same size of platform, whereas Trump highjacked the Republican Party nomination because there were so many other candidates who were just fund raising and never serious candidates.
disliked, because both candidates are horrible in their own special way.
Please try to drop the mental gymnastics for at least a moment. People like you are why Donald Trump is (unfortunately) currently the president of the U.S. Virtually every pre-primary empirical measure showed Bernie would fare better against trump in the general election than Clinton (polls, favorability rankings, etc). While these tools are obviously not clairvoyant, they have been shown to be more predictive than any other measure. But Clintonites would rather trust their intuition. Of couuuuuuuuurse.
Post exit polls only provided further data showing Bernie would've probably won. People pretty much voted along party lines, but take a look at the numbers showing the amount of republicans and independents who wanted major change. Which democratic candidate wanted major change? Please remind me. The establishment just DOESN'T GET IT. People don't want more of the fucking same.
But people like you, employees of the Huffington post giving hillary a 99% chance of winning the presidency, and the DNC would rather trust their "gut" and intuition, than listen to the evidence. It's hilarious, because the shoe was once on the other foot. Democratic analysts scoffed at Romney fanboys for living in an echo chamber, when they refused to believe he had not shot of beating Obama. Who's living in the echo chamber now?
Adam Perez -- This was the first Presidential election I could voter in. I refused to vote for either. I think millenials are to the left of most Americans and until a true liberal/progressive current is the norm millenials will be disinterested in politics. I'm a millenials, but I'm intensely interested in politics. I'm a Christian, so already I'm not the average millenial. Politically I identify as a social democrat. I also hold many civil libertarian views as well. Hopefully one day a social democratic with libertarian views comes along.
i am 20 and have voted in every election I could have.
Kingsleydale it's okay you were a mistake anyway.
Amenhotep Pimpernel III okay?
Kingsleydale There is no point voting my friend....it's all a charade to make you think you have a choice.
So 0 ?
ChrisUAnimation No i am British, so a few.
Bring the meteor. Please. This is 100% Idiocracy.
Herb Doobington quit being such an emo and do something about it, like voting
Whoever wrote/produced the movie Idiocracy was a modern day prophet.
Billy Bob Thornton Mike Judge, the same man who brought you Bevis and Butthead, and created the title charecter for Daria. (2 really smart shows, even if one of them looks absolutely idiotic on the outside).
the old woman at the end spoke from her heart, which was really refreshing to hear
“I’m not voting“
“Why”
“I don’t know”
Great video! Thank you for producing the kind of content you are creating. I'm a millennial who lives in Houston TX and I can tell you that here we very involve. Even if your not politically involve, you are still talkin about this year's elections. I do believe millennials are listening and paying attention to what is happening.
My god the Tucson guy is more charismatic than Jill Stein.😀
I just don't want civilization to collapse due to our climate crisis. Is that too much to ask for?
John Garrison I want what you're smoking bruh. Pretty sure civilization collapse is more likely to be caused by Nucleur war than climate change Leonardo Dicaprio:-P
David Greenberg Nuclear war will not happen.
climate change was made up by the chinese government so no one could compete with them in manufacturing
Absolutely! First things first. Let's take down those horrendous volcanoes. Did you check the emissions on those harbingers of climate change!? I'm voting against them come November.
PvMVertigo And if it did, it wouldm't be much of a war, it'd be more like one massive battle that wipes out millions of people.
The choice is the two candidates everyone hates to one degree or another, many people voting not because they support their candidate but because they're scared of the other one. Yet you say you're disappointed people aren't voting, when that is their option? A bigoted clown of a man or a war monger criminal who is never prosecuted because she's in the protected class?
Remind me how you've been treating Jeremy Corbyn, Guardian... Because that's what is comes down to. We're always forced between two choices we hate, then when someone remotely different comes along; the mainstream media unify against them. The establishment, of which the Guardian is part of, always falls into protecting the status quo when it comes down to it. They give lip service to higher ideals to give the illusion of choice, but their behaviour speaks for itself.
So we're constantly disappointed, constantly having our hopes dashed, then you wonder why people are apathetic? Try not shitting all over our next hope candidate, Guardian...
0:34 "I don't give a shit when I was young" *Drives Off*
Lmao
Very depressing! Few millienials interviewed could provide the policy positions of the candidates they support. Emoji culture has lead to some youth being stripped of language.
Very depressing, that most adults don't know it either.
The old guy at 0:28 gets it. Nothing to do with this generation being especially prone to political apathy, just comes with being young. Of course when you're expected to choose between the two least popular candidates in the recorded history of American Presidential elections, that doesn't help either.
you generalise the observation of a few people for an entire generation. Some of us do vote and are politically active. clickbait video
Filio Kuntag but it is a fact that most Millenials don't vote.
and what percentage of baby boomers/ gen x's vote when they were younger? it's also fact that young people has less turnout compared to other age groups regardless of the generation.
Filio Kuntag not many. Millenials suck
You are in the minority.
North K Check the statistics.
The girl at 7:20 is exactly how everyone feels about politics: apathetic, bored and ultimately uninterested.
Same, but we can't afford to be like that now. The stakes are too high.
Dressing up young people's misery as apathy. Nice work guardian.
TheRobstargames it is apathy. By not voting you are literally doing nothing. That is stupid and indefensible.
misery? There is no misery about it, they're just apathetic, lazy and incredible stupid.
I've voted in every election since I turned 21.
None of the candidates I voted for was ever elected.
In the last election, my ballot was rejected.
You are damn right I am miserable and apathetic.
Which is why I am voting Trump.
Beef Chavez why was it rejected? Also I'd argue with you as a left-winger but honestly fuck it, you do that, whole country is so corrupt over there it won't make it any worse.
TheRobstargames
Supposedly because my signature on the ballot envelope didn't match the signature on my voter registration form. I don't know who stopped and took the time to compare them though.
I'm actually a liberal, but then Trump is a much more liberal candidate than Clinton.
The way I figure it is, Trump this election, and then whichever Green/Libertarian/Consitution candidate I like best from here on out.
The Democrats are only going to get more conservative, and I don't think that the Republicans are going to make a comeback.
If you give people 2 criminals to vote for, don't expect much interest.
I have never voted while on pot. Jack Daniels doesn't contain pot does it? I got good and plastered and held my nose before marking my absentee ballot this year. I have now voted in 12 presidential elections. I have never before had to choose between two more clearly despicable people. You usually have to wait until the person has been in office several months to find out how awful they are. In 2016 we all know going in. It's kinda comforting in a way.
Trump has done one thing. He's made people somewhat interested in politics.
“ what’s your name?” .......”Kaylyn”........”Will”.........That just about sums up dating in Tucson.
0:19 grandpa is drunk, he watches too much fox news
Well he's talkin about you lol
Grandpa has Alzheimer's but he thinks he is more smarter and wiser than the person next to him.
The girls in the photo are Gen Z, not millennials!!!
That old lady is sooo cute
0:30 cracked me up
I'm getting a serial killer vibe from trey I wouldn't vote for him lol
0:29 fucking gangster
It's sad that people from my generation (millennials) are so self absorbed that they don't even think about the future of they're own country. Pull your heads out of the dirt and do something!
I'm not quite old enough to vote yet, but I sure as hell would be if I could!
The cheerleaders are priceless. :-)
Good for you Trey.
this video for some reason gave me a little hope.
These are Gen Z not Millennials
that old guy in the red lmao
That grandma was so funny :)
I lost him, the candidate in the green shirt, when he said, "the real owners..."
I am a millennial and I voted for Biden
The Guardian is regressive tripe.
Part of the apathy problem is that for many people, their vote actually doesn’t count. If you want to vote Republican in a state that always goes to the Democrats, or the other way around, it makes no difference whether you vote or not - the candidate you oppose is going to win your state. And actually, this even affects voting Republican in a solidly Republican state, or Democrat in a state that will go to the Democrat - it makes no difference whether you vote or not, so apathy seems fairly rational. We would do better to stop aggregating votes at the state level and just count every vote ... award the presidency to the candidate who gets the most votes. Then every vote would count.
why would you go to u of a to find any kind of intellectuality.
At least they didn't go to Arizona State. haha
6:37
ahah deadddddddddddddddddddddddddddd rawr xD
Hey Paul thanks for these videos. You are doing a great service to this country. Keep making more and more videos and being neutral unlike much of our media. Stay safe man.
I know a few people who voted for "Deez nuts".
0:30 I love that man
4:48 man shit like that is why I love Gary Johnson
Gary Johnson saying he is the dumbest person you will ever meet is the thing we want all politicians to say and mean.
thought this said "generation meth"...haha
Note to self: Always make time to vote and figure out how to run for mayor.
That old lady at the end is freaking awesome.
49% of eligible american voters did not vote.
"It's not name recognition, it's name awareness."
I could tell there was a fair bit of recycled footage and interviewees in this video compared with at least one other.
That old lady at the end was so sweet
Tired of the whole choosing the lesser of two evils thing. I would love to vote FOR a candidate at some point in my life and not AGAINST one. That's why I personally am "meh" about the 2 candidates.
Thanks Hillary for giving us Trump. I hope you're proud.
This disconnected from ones vote has been damaged from the electoral college. U will see more votes from everyone if it was popular.
I'm sick of it!
Those cheerleaders really said it all.
this is hilarious
Yeah, Trump is a bad guy huh? but Gary Johnson doesn't even know where Aleppo is..
Wildcats!! Bear Down!
7:19 she pretty
Watching this in 2022 I’m super annoyed at those college kids. I wonder how apathetic they feel now and if they’re kicking themselves for their apathy back then.
This video misses the fact that voters for the two major parties focus on fear of each other and want to exclude other parties that want to create a different reality.
Don't worry... Gen z is voting Right
Gary Johnson FTW haha lol. but seriously who would vote for him?
**not even close?**
.....Did he just say the words "Radical bookstore " in the same sentence?
As always, getting shamed for being a millennial is just the neatest. (btw, this was the first presidential election that I was able to vote for, I am an early voter, I voted as soon as I received my ballot by mail, at 1 a.m. in the middle of the night, and no, I'm not dumb enough to vote for a third party candidate because I actually understand how our political system works).
What's the presenter's name?
That lady made me happy
Would've been completely different at ASU...
Wow, this video did not age all that well. And the next election is a day from now as I'm writing this.
Branding all people that were born at a certain time as "Generation 'meh'" is unbelievably patronising and dismissive.
Late Generation Xer. Voted for Darrell Castle.
LMFAO
You would basically need a rockstar or movie star running for high office as a Green Party member to make that political group relevant and nationally viable. Outside of a few progressive areas of the country, the Green Party is pretty much a nonfactor or a joke to many in the two party system.
I'm tired of these types of people blaming everything on a generation.
I know where I'm going to commit my next hate crime
You gotta love the site of a rich old white dude playing golf lecturing millennials about how they need to stop smoking pot and get their lives together. Seriously could not have come up with a better nutshell depiction of US politics at this point than that.
Its never been easier to vote. Just get out there and don't vote for Trump, put your country back on the world map.
why can't he make eye contact?
After seeing the two candidates, I got very interested in voting for a third party, and then I started looking into Gary Johnson, and realized he sucks very quickly
They ALL suck.
At least with a candidate as charismatic as Trey they have a bright future.
young people see what is in place here for them.... THE BILL! not really fair huh?and the divide continues.....ok to love your country, loving your government is the one night stand. one year in and the slow walk of shame is coming.......
Or maybe you can stop generalizing young people? I'm 20 and extremely engaged in politics. On average our youth voter turnout is terrible, but that doesn't mean that all of us don't care.
Is the second guy Tommy Lee Jones
"I'm not voting." You can't say this if you live in a territory that used to be a kingdom or have some kingdoms where the federal government forces their citizens to be subject to compulsory voting rights. Use this sentence, you'll be arrested. So shut up and vote after listening to the candidates' national thoughts. If you're of age, you're automatically registered to vote no matter what.
Haha Burnie burn burn burn
What is aleppo
as generation in border of GenX and Millenial (born in early 80's some says Gen Y, some says we belonged to Gen X, Some says we belonged to Millenial) i know how it is feel "my opinion wont matter" and "it is not my problem". but that attitude would never give you anything. sure, blame your parents generations, but when your children blamed you, how would you anwers that? that in most crucial moment in history that would affects your childrens too, you stand there doing nothing. Use your vote. and use it wisely
If voting mattered, it would be illegal.
>"how lucky we are to be able to have our say and our vote, seems like sometimes we forget how lucky we are"
>majority of the piece condemns and frowns upon independent voters
i appreciate how snarky the piece is, but this is far from nonpartisan reporting, and barely counts as journalism. its closer to propaganda and you might as well have uploaded this to clinton's page.
Cmon man... you went to Arizona... thats not exactly the cream of the crop of Americas youth
Why don't these videos not get enough views
Green Party candidate could use a comb.
Do not assume that the students interviewed in this piece represent a whole American generation. As much as I respect The Guardian, this is journalistic cherrypicking. If the reporter ventured into the campus library, he'd likely find political conviction.
we need rid of the first past the goalpost nonsense at the least. Between that and the EC, there's zero chance a third party will win a presidential election without replacing one of the two current main ones.
While the possible winners are terrible and the maybe better choices are known to have no chance of winning, I can't blame anyone for not voting anymore than I blame them for casting a "throw-away" vote.
Still, if everyone who didn't vote had voted third party, we'd have an interesting situation with probably no winner right now and next election at least one more party would have federal funds. That would have been nice.
(28 year old who voted third party)
Why does Canada seem so happy and peaceful? Answer - Multi party system.
Canada is a mediocre country and doesn’t seem happy
