Damn dude, you got the saliva glands flowing ! Nothing better than a sub 6% beer that is that impactful across the spectrum, aromatics, body, and flavor and is brilliantly crafted. Cheers amigo !
Right? I'm always super impressed when a brewery makes a sub-6% hazy taste like a double or imperial. It's voodoo. Wayland brews some good beer, but this was next-level. It's amazing how good it is, actually. Cheers, Bud!
Wow! I wouldn’t usually except a beer with that ABV to get that high of a score from you but that speaks to how good it is. Count me as a Riwaka “Stan” as them kids might say. Maybe not Dan with Motueka levels but I just love it. I get pretty big passion fruit from it married with a peppery, resinous thing. It's really got its own identity and I can always tell it's there. Vic Secret I've heard described by brewers as Galaxy lite. if you want some of that Galaxy thing without it dominating then it's a good choice. Cheers to a killer pale ale!
I'm not one to go bonkers over Hazy Pale Ales, but this beer was definitely hitting properly. They did an amazing job with it. I could easily drink a bunch of this in one sitting, which is rare for me to say about a hazy of any kind, haha! So damn good, man. It's funny the term "Stan" originated with Eminem's song of the same name. Crazy how that song is like 25 years old. Insanity! I do enjoy Riwaka, but I think I prefer it a bit more in conjunction with other hops. A few people have told me they get that "dirty gym bag/locker room" vibe, and I get it. Like you, it's more of that spiced/peppery herbaceousness for me. I think we're just interpreting it differently, which is usually how it works. Vic Secret is a hop I usually get big pineapple, so that makes sense. Classic Galaxy = crushed pineapple. Over the years, it's changed, so it seems like Vic Secret is more like what Galaxy used to be, at least to me. Cheers, Curtis!
@@averagejoe716 I appreciate it when a mid range alcohol Pale ale/IPA is really good like that. I feel like I talk about OH all the time but they do a ton of beers in that range that I honestly enjoy just as much as the 8.5% versions. I didn’t know that Stan came from the song until not all that long ago but it makes sense once you think about the lyrics of it. Haha Dang I didn’t know people got dirty gym bag from it. Maybe it’s like the cilantro of hops. 😂 I get why someone wouldn’t like it because it’s not your typical fruit bomb like a lot of hops. I’m sure I’ve said before, but I believe it’s bred from Czech Saaz and I definitely get a bit of that character but with a bunch of that NZ character.
Citra Daydream is one of my favorite beers from them, and it's actually one of my desert island beers. I could drink it all day long! Yep. I love me some Eminem, especially more of his deeper/underground cuts. He's still going strong nowadays, and his rapping ability is just absurd. Crazy that some folks don't consider him as one of the greatest of all-time. You don't have to relate to his music, you just have to acknowledge his ability, IMO. LOL @ cilantro of hops. That's a great comparison. I think a lot of people who enjoy straight fruity juice bombs are the ones who typically don't care for it. It makes sense, but I love the unique quality of Riwaka.
@@averagejoe716 You know I’m not 100% if I’ve had Citra Daydream. I think I have at the FLX brewery but I can’t quite recall. Definitely have had All Citra Everything. Everything they do is just so good. Eminem is definitely one of the best rappers ever. No doubt. I’m younger than you but definitely remember seeing him on MTV like, who the heck is this guy. I get why people would prefer fruit bomb hops (and I definitely do as well) but it’s nice when a hop throws a curveball in there to stand out. Which is why we also like Sabro so much. No mistaking it. Haha
They don't seem to brew the regular Citra Daydream as much as the rest. Not sure why because I feel most people would appreciate a lower ABV hazy that is almost as good as the imperial versions. Who knows, though! Yeah, a lot of people discredit him for numerous reasons, but as far as technical ability rapping-wise, he's one of the GOATS, IMO. You're a bit younger than me, but I remember those old school MTV days too, haha! I used to think I loved the fruity juice bombs, but as my palate evolves and changes, I need something else. I get sick of them because while they're tasty, a lot of them don't taste like beer as much. I think that's why when a hop like Riwaka -- which brings something different to the table -- excites me more than most. I also think, like you said, it's cool to have hops that have distinct characteristics. It's nice knowing if you pick up a Sabro-hopped beer, you're pretty confident of how it's going to taste, for the most part.
Sounds delicious. Tox is doin' some damn fine hazy pale ales these days, specifically with their Pollen series. Fox Farm of course pumps out some dandies too, but we know that -- love those Pollens. Cheers!
I miss Tox. The only place around here that carried their beer is undergoing a restructuring, so no new orders for beer like that has been placed in a few months. Really bummed. If I see any of those Pollen beers, I'll grab one to review, Rick. I love me some Fox Farm -- no matter what it is -- so I can imagine their lower ABV hazies are amazing. Cheers, brother!
Thanks, man! I'm not sure if ABW carries their stuff, but you ain't far away. I need to check out the brewery at some point. This was such a delicious lower ABV hazy. Cheers, brother!
Jack, what I mean by that is that it's the first thing that is noticeable on my palate, buy it then becomes a secondary tertiary player. It's noticeable, but it takes a backseat to the rest of the flavors. Hope that helps you understand where I'm coming from, buddy! This one was certainly amazing. Cheers!
It was very delicious, Billy. Definitely one that you would enjoy. I did not receive any text from you. The last text I have from you is from back in June when the news broke that Chobani bought Anchor. Cheers!

It was tasty, Chris! Definitely one of those sessionable hazies that I wouldn't get sick of.

Glad it makes sense to someone because I still don't know what I'm talking about, LMAO!
