    That axe is made by hults bruk. The steel is custom blended for them and it is called HB3. Hope this helps.

    Austin, my late Uncle, had a carpenters axe in Canley, Coventry. He also used it for cutting and splitting.

    I just got one. I beat it like it owed me money on it's first outing. It didn't break. Solid axe. And it is an small axe, not a hatchet. It's closing in on 3lbs (the head alone is 2.2lbs). Nice weight forward balance for a small handle. Good stuff.

    It’s the perfect axe for felling, just replace the handle with a 26” or 28”, but first Learn how to use an axe, 🙂good luck bro 👍

    A carpenters axe is more of a tool you use to build a log cabin, you can grip it realy good at the head so you can shave layers of the wood of to mabe make a plank or something or shape a log so it fits for building a cabin. But they work pretty good for camping and bushcrafting stuff to. Especially this one since it is such a good quality for the price.

      100% agreed, Don. But I think most people would also want to also know how it does with other tasks - as you said a high quality axe at a reasonable price. Thanks for watching!

    I’ve been told to never put an axe into wood before taking the burr off of the cutting edge. Because it will sometimes roll over and damage the edge causing more work to get it sharp.

      Never heard that one, but I did use this awhile and it sharpened pretty easy on the viper sharp.

    Interesting video. I have a Husqvarna small forest Axe and it has been my favorite Axe for several years. I have watched a few of your videos and its great to see you teaching your children. I think spending time outdoors helps instill a broader sense of values. Great stuff subscribed

    Same steel as Gransfors bruks and Hultafors, Hults bruks. All made by same company. Wetterlings used to make Gransfors axes!

    Ever consider getting a Council Tools 2.25 lb. boys axe with either a 24" or 28" handle for about $35. With its 1060 steel, it'll do as well as the Husqvarna & the GB., both of which are probably in the 1055-1060 steel range themselves.

    The axes from Husqvarna are made by Hults Bruk which is owned by Hultafors. I also have this axe and it had done double duty for me. Camping as well as carpentry.

    It's a great axe. I have had this one for 2 years and it's my go to axe when going out....BTW, do NOT baton with an axe !!! You will loosen up the head and it will come loose and may cause some serious damage when it does.

    • @woodlandsnorth
      @woodlandsnorth  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching. I have been batoning axes for several years without issue. I believe as long as you use a wooden baton and arent going through very large pieces of wood, all should be fine.

    Awesome backpackers axe.
    It's all preference BUT An axe should never be razor sharp that's when u get chipping on the edge.

      Really? This is the first time I read this. Maybe it all depends on the steel used?

  • @johnmutton799
    @johnmutton799 4 роки тому +1

    Same steel as GB, grain in handles are better than GB. Stop cutting at 90°, just keep cutting at 45° and watch what happens. But why cut that tree down? It is a great tool.

      Beating on it with a hammer yes, tapping with a bit of wood... no.

      Carpenter's axe is specifically made and hardened to use hammer side
