രംഗവേദിയുടെ ഒരുവശത്ത് കഠിനാദ്ധ്വാനിയായ കർഷകനും മറുവശത്ത് നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി മാനവഹൃദയങ്ങളെ വശീകരിച്ചുപോരുന്ന ഗജവീരന്മാരുടെ ഗാംഭീര്യവും. ഈ മനോഹരജീവികൾ കാടിന്റെ സുഖസൗകര്യങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്തുവന്ന് വിളകൾ നശിപ്പിയ്ക്കുന്നത് എന്തുകൊണ്ടാണ്? എന്താണ് അവയെ ആകർഷിയ്ക്കുന്നത്? ലോകം അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിയ്ക്കുന്ന ചില ഉത്തരങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്തുവാൻവേണ്ടി പാലക്കാട് വനം ഡിവിഷൻ ഒരു ശ്രമം നടത്തുകയാണ്. മനുഷ്യനും ആനയ്ക്കും ഇടയിലുള്ള കൊടുക്കൽ വാങ്ങലുകളെക്കുറിച്ച്, അത്തരം നാടകീയമുഹൂർത്തങ്ങൾക്ക് ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രം തന്നെ കളമൊരുക്കുന്ന പാലക്കാടൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ നടത്തിയ നിരീക്ഷണങ്ങളുടെ കഥയാണ്‌ ഈ ചിത്രം.

Palakkad Forest division attempts an investigation to understand the complex dynamics of elephant dispersal. This film is the story of that investigation and the Human Elephant Interactions that take place in Palakkad

An excellent study report and an eye opener from the Kerala Forest Dept of Palakkad on the intrusion of wild elephants at Walayar belt. Hearty congratulations to the entire team including the local people.
If, the Forest Dept. is able to grow the fruit bearing trees preferred by elephants inside the forest would be most welcome!!

It's a good suggestion , but extremely difficult to implement. Growing of fruit bearing trees in the forest from scratch is almost impossible first of all the time required for the trees to grow to a fruit bearing age takes atleast a few months , for some a few years... ensuring that the trees grow well and develop the fruit before they are destroyed by animals or natural calamities is quite difficult. But can be implemented on a trail basis

Excellent and commendable work by the forest department for trying to minimize damage , on both human and elephant sides. Though many options have been put in the comments, I know that implementation of these are quite difficult. I feel the easiest option that can be looked into can be creating large trenches with spiked iron wires on both sides ( kambi veli )in areas which are most vulnerable, also to keep in mind that the elephants don't have a conflict with humans while they try to avoid these trenches..I have always been against electric fencing because even if a big animal like the elephant can take the shock, I've seen a lot of other animals like Monkeys , deer , peacock and other lesser animals and birds that cannot withstand the electric power and die due to it...so that should not be the first choice to keep elephants away...I think trenches are far more reasonable and less harmful.

I love palakkad
People always say farming is an effortless and manageable profession.Besides climatic factors , water availability , weeds and insects etc. also put farmers into debt traps.
It is for almost 12 years here, at Venoli (Pudussery),the relationship between human beings and wild animals like pig, elephant etc. are been riddled with conflict.While the Forest Department have not shown any genuine commitment to eradicate this havoc caused by wild animals. In 2011,my father lost around 300 coconut palms and the Forest Department gave only Rs.25000/-.
I still remember.
Is this enough for a normal farmer who have nurtured it for a lifetime..?
Despite of loud policy measures such as Rapid response team(RRT) announced by the forest department, they miserably failed to redress the issues faced by farmers.
For example as RRT reaches around 10'O Clock in the night (only if farmers call upon them and find elephants nearby) with crackers team will arrive and send the elephant back from the paddy field.But after 2-3hours elephants will be back on the same field and will graze.
The compensation amount have also been not revised as per the rise in price of inputs i.e fertilizer,seeds,labour,machinefare etc.it's still running till date as per 2012 circular . For one acre of paddy,farmers will get Rs.6000/-.
Do you think it is enough for the peasents to survive .?
Even to get that least amount there is a henious task that farmer should do , he/she has to go to nearby jana seva/akshaya kendra , have to take atleast 3-5 photographs , with the hardcopies of the above mentioned application forms and photos they should see the forest officials.The process is not over even after giving them application also. A farmer have to wait for some days and continuosly follow up officials to have a sight visit ,they will report to the Range Forest Office after that Range officer will sent it to DFO , minimum it will take around 2-3 months for them . After it reaches DFO office the status will be seen as processing . They will also take 3-4 months. Whenever asked the office staff will say fund is not available ,they will always have a reason .After several months of following and office going atlast they will approve it. In between farmer will again loss money. The compensation system is highly complex and slow. It's all because of the lack of financial investment in pro-active conflict prevention measures . Whenever the man-animal conflict gets worsened several political agendas and dramas will take place such as picketing of forest office just for the name-sake and vote bank politics.Several meetings have been convened by Ministers, MPs,MLAs etc till date.I have also participated in some of the meetings in that farmers from all corners from Mundur to Walayar have reiterated the need for a strong fencing and trenches to prevent wild animals from entering into vegetative areas but still it is not done . Farmers can't lodge any claim any compensation under PMFBY or weather based insurance scheme.So only thing which farmers can rely upon is forest compensation that too is insufficient.
Until and unless proper measures are not taken the woes of farmers will not be resolved.

പാലക്കാട് ഫോറെസ്റ് ഡിവിഷൻ പ്രൊഡ്യൂസർ ആയി സൂരജ് വർമ്മ ഡയറക്റ്റ് ചെയ്ത നാടോടികൾ എന്ന ഷോർട് ഫിലിം കാണാൻ ഇടയായി. കാണുമ്പോഴേ അറിയാം ഒരുപാട് ആളുകളുടെ അനേക ദിവസത്തെ പരിശ്രമം ആണ് എന്ന്. ആ വീഡിയോയിൽ പരാമർശിച്ച ഒരുപാടുകാര്യങ്ങൾ വളരെ കൗതുകം ഉളവാക്കുന്നതാണ്. കാരണം ഒരുപാട് വിഡിയോകൾ ഇതുപോലെ വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നിരുന്നാലും യഥാർത്ഥ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ അവസ്ഥകൾ ചോദിക്കാട്ടുന്ന ഒരു വീഡിയോ അഥവാ വിവരണം ഇതുവരെ കാണാൻ ആയിട്ടില്ല. എല്ലാ വിഡിയോകളും നിരന്തരമായി ആനപ്രേമികൾ ആനകൾക്കും, ജനങ്ങൾ അവർക്കും വേണ്ടിമാത്രമാണ് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു. പക്ഷം ചേർന്നുള്ള വ്യാഖ്യാനങ്ങളാണ് പലപ്പോഴും അനുഭവപ്പെടാറുള്ളത്. എന്നാൽ ഒരു സർക്കാർ സംവിധാനത്തിൽ വളർന്നു വന്നതുമൂലം ആവാം യഥാർത്ഥ പ്രെശ്നം അഥവാ യാഥാർഥ്യം ഈ വീഡിയോയിലൂടെ നമക്കുമുന്നിൽ വിവരിക്കാൻ ആവുന്നത്. ഇതിനു മുൻകൈ എടുത്ത പാലക്കാട് ഡിവിഷൻ ഫോറെസ്റ് ഓഫീസിലെ എല്ലാ നല്ലവരായ ഓഫീസിർസിനും ഒരായിരം നന്ദി അറിയിക്കുന്നു.
പ്രഗത്ഭരായ സിനിമ നടന്മാർ വരെ ഭിനയിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഓരോ സീനും കുറ്റമറ്റതാവാൻ 5 ഓ 6 ഓ പ്രാവശ്യം അഭിനയിക്കണം. കാടിനുള്ളിലെ കാട്ടാനകളുടെ ഇത്ര നല്ല വീഡിയോസ് എടുക്കണമെങ്കിൽ അതിനുള്ള പരിശ്രമം അത്രയും കൂടുതലാവും. ഒന്നുറപ്പാണ് ഒരു പാലക്കാട്ടുകാരനായ ആനപ്രേമിക്കു മാത്രമേ അതിനു സാധിക്കു.
വാളയാറിൽ ആനകളുടെ മരണം എന്നും ആന പ്രേമികൾക്ക് വലിയ വിഷമം തരുന്ന ഒന്നാണ്. യഥാർത്ഥ അവസ്ഥയെ കാണിച്ചുതരാൻ ഫോറെസ്റ് ഡിപ്പാർട്മെന്റിന് കൂടെ നിന്ന ഡയറക്ടർ എല്ലാവരും വളരെ യധികം പ്രശംസ അർഹിക്കുന്നവരാണ്. പാലക്കാട് ഡിവിഷന് നന്ദി അറിയിക്കുന്നതോടൊപ്പം ശ്വാശ്വത പരിഹാരം എത്രയും പെട്ടന്ന് നടപ്പിലാക്കാൻ കഴിയട്ടെ എന്ന് ആശംസിക്കുന്നു.
