I had just discovered Taylor Swift and I had been sober for a few months AND I WAS NOT PREPARED. I don't think I'll ever listen to this without tears. My mom jokingly asked me how Taylor Swift could write a song about me. Unfortunately, I am not alone. Taylor helps though 💜
When Folklore came out it was right in the pandemic, I had lost my job, my wife was involved in a bad car accident in front of me, my own car was stolen and I just had a ton of bad luck over a short space of time. Resulting in a complete breakdown, having never experienced mental illness before - i didn't know what the hell was going on, and ended up in hospital diagnosed with severe depression. When I entered my recovery I found this track and never has a song been so powerful and meaningful to me - but with such concise words summing up such complex feelings, some days I couldn't listen to it as it was too much. Now having very much recovered and started a whole new career in mental health from my experiences, I cherish this song. I'm a 49 year old man and a huge Taylor Swift fan now - she really did help me get my life back together and it was one time I was listening to this song that i decided to retrain and help other people in ways I was helped.
I’ve been sober 24 years……it is still helpful to remember the first days. The writing was spot on. I still have the regrets for what I did to everyone in my life. Now, I can finally remember myself kindly.
i got into a DEEP depression at the start of this year and i literally cried everyday listening to this song so it's a very bittersweet song for me because it's so beautiful and emotional and it reminds me of really hard times but also reminds me how much my mental has gotten better since then
Thank you for opening my eyes to Taylor's writing. Like you, I'd always dismissed her music without really giving her a chance. That changes as of today.
You will be amazed, even going back to some of the songs she wrote when she was 12-14 that were on her first albums! She has written songs that became #1 Hits for other artists including Miley Cyrus, Little Big Town, Sugarland, Big Red Machine, rapper B.O.B., Kelly Pickler, Calvin Harris & Rhianna. And songs for movies the Hunger Games, Cats, Hanna Montana, and recently Where The Crawdads Sing.
It’s so wonderful to see men who gravitate to completely different music from Taylor’s style to give her a chance and actually listen to her lyrics where she really shines. Most “swifties”, especially older ones who have been around from the beginning are such big fans of hers almost exclusively because of the lyrics of her lesser known songs.
Probably has been mentioned but Taylor writes 100% of her songs. She gives writing credit to her producers because sometimes they help with a line or help her take her ideas and lyrics and organize the song cohesively. She’s been working with Jack Antonoff for years and lately with Aaron Dessner from The Nationals (the other man in the video) and they’ve helped her take her craft to other heights. I like the way they interact and love music. Makes for a more exquisite final product. Thank you for your reactions. Keep going! 😁
Thanks for this reaction, and for giving Taylor a second try. Her album's deeper cuts give me the same reaction you had. The more I hear the more I wanna hear more. If you do "My Tears Ricochet" from the same Long Pond Sessions, tune in to how her face tells you everything about what she was feeling when she wrote the song. Insanely emotional.
I always wonder since this was written during the pandemic, how many people were trying so hard to not relapse with so much going on. And I also recall the height of tiktok and making fun coping with alcohol trends. I am therapist and in the height of the pandemic I remember ordering from so many wineries that I loved and wanted them to stay in business. And alcohol consumption became a joke. I had to take step back after this song and delete tiktoks that joked about drinking in quarantine,And most of my videos were full of grape juice and apple cider. I have since deleted most out of respect of addiction and and alcoholism. I appreciate this song. Thank you for reacting to this.
I second the My Tears Ricochet from the same long pond sessions. Her expression of what happened with her original label head and his selling her catalog to her worst nightmare- and the reason for her re-recording of her catalogs. It it heartbreaking and IMO some of her best lyrics. Just discovered your channel. Great reactions.
Another great song, I really enjoyed the short explanation at the start. I really resonated with the part where she mentions about how when your at school there's all these chances for gold stars but when you leave there are none. Life is hard and it's something that I've often thought about, that school doesn't prepare you for work/ what its like to have a job, or adult life practical living day to day (which really doesnt make sense and its something i think should be changed)- well school here, but I would say its pretty much the same most places. You really don't use majority of the knowledge you learn at school at all and how well you do at school really doesn't necessarily have any baring on your life for most people. Whatever their circumstances, I think most people are just out here trying their (own) best. 🌟
i dont know a lot about taylor but i can see how she is so good with music, its very personal and i like that abt her as we can see how she was involved in the writing. When you mentioned breath control i remembered a video i saw recently of a singing teacher that was using a billie eilish's song with her estudant to practice breath control (and other things), it was so hard, people who dont sing (me included) forget how its so hard bcs people like taylor, beyoncé etc do it like its nothing 😆
Great video, once again I really like the honest and down to earth vibe of your channel. This song came out in the middle of the pandemic in 2020 and I was in a super dark place struggling with depression and this song made me feel like I wasn't alone and I couldn't stop sobbing. One of my favorite songs of all time.
Really enjoying your reactions. The guy she was talking to is Jack Antonoff, co-writer and co-producer on this track and they are very close BFFs. He’s lead singer of the Bleachers and the group Fun. You may like all the Long Pond Studio sessions because i really enjoy not only the live acoustic part of it but I like her talking about the songs and explaining. Tolerate It was from evermore, and there isn’t a live version of that album. I really like the song evermore. It’s about depression, sinking, drowning, being tossed around like a ship in waves and not being able to get out of it. Its a duet with Bon Iver and I think it’s a lovely song.
Wow another Taylor Swift reaction love this song she's really amazing artist. Love your reaction too. Hope to hear more Taylor. Thank you and God Bless 🙏 Borahae 💜
Agreed! The entire Long Pond session is mandatory for anyone consuming Taylor's music. Listening to her discuss each song with her collaborators is like taking a peek inside her brain. It's an amazing place.
Hi Bryan. I know I’m late to the party with this one (it’s been a crazy day). Just wanted you to know that I checked in 😂. Yeah, I’m learning with you Taylor’s amazing way with words and how talented she is as a vocalist too. I’ve only really heard her more popular songs. It’s good to hear these that don’t get much if any radio play. Thanks for introducing these to us TS newbies.
Would love for you to do all of the Long Pond Studio Session. Thanks for your reaction!! I really loved this song because life is hard and sometimes just making it from one day to the next takes a lot of effort. It is often unseen and Taylor gave recognition to it with this song
Hey! Than you so much for taking some time to dig into Taylor's music! She is an excellent songwritter and singer! Her songwrintting abilities were there from her first album to her last! Even if she was younger, she could write good lyrics, I'm pretty sure you will like the lyrics from her older albums! I'm glad to have found your channel and I hope you're planning to do more videos about Taylor!
Love Taylor reactions. Would love to see you react to Lana del rey. Taylor has mentioned her as one of her favorite lyricists multiple times. Also Rina Sawayama's XS and STFU! songs are very interesting they have a lil metal influence.
I’m gonna keep being annoying and asking you to check out Aurora’s music because I know you’re gonna like her writing skills too. She’s very different, she feels her music with her whole body and even forgets about the public. There’s a performance of Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1 at the Nobel Prize Concert when she was only 19, I guess, and it’s incredible! You definitely should watch it even on your own 💜
Please do Halsey! If you love Taylor’s breath control you will be AMAZED by Halsey’s. Jesus H Christ that woman can SING and there are very little breaks to get air in. I had to train myself to sing her songs. Plus her lyrics are everything, she’s like an edgy Taylor in her songwriting and so brilliant. Her latest album is a masterpiece and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Especially The Lighthouse, I am Not a Woman, I’m a God, Honey, Easier than Lying and my favourite, Bells in Santa Fe 🙌🏻
I just had mental breakdown after seeing how she affects other people especially with songs like 'all too well' and 'tolerate it' and this is one of my favorites. I'll be a mess at the end.
Good lyrics. Good music. Even as I educate myself more about music, I'm still find myself frustrated by works like this because I like all the pieces, but for me, they don't fit together at all. Got a tattoo for this song because DAMN it cuts so hard
@elisadaygrey I hope it continued to inspire you. Share it at meetings.

I am glad you are doing better! I appreciate you sharing about yourself.
Taylor’s writing is just impressive. Even her songs that are more poppy and fun they are very well written
“At least I’m trying”
That’s all anyone can hope for when you’re stuck in a dark place.
I’m at least trying.

Came here to say this
This is me trying resonates a lot for me as a chronically ill person as well.
I loved your reaction! Taylor did the whole album live in these long pond studio sessions and it's great. "My tears ricochet" is my favorite one.
Thank you for watching!
This song is one of my faves from this album. When she says “at least I’m trying” it hits so hard.
This song makes me cry so often.

She recorded the whole folklore songs during covid lockdown at her home. Many were remotely between them all out together. It was beautiful for me.

I just had mental breakdown after seeing how she affects other people especially with songs like 'all too well' and 'tolerate it' and this is one of my favorites. I'll be a mess at the end.
Sorry to bother you, but more Taylor, please? Long pond studios?
More Taylor is coming in a few days, my Patreon supporters have already seen my next Taylor Swift reaction!

I would love to hear your thoughts on her song All Too Well (10 minute version) ua-cam.com/video/sRxrwjOtIag/v-deo.html

Hi I’ve watched a few of your videos just wanted to recommend a Scottish band Frightened Rabbit think you would like them. Great music and lyrics.
