Max, Thank You for the Many Laughs. !! !! !!
That is very true! Thankfully, Linder was a star from and in France. Hollywood back then, tended to erase (as much as possible); the careers of stars who passed under similar circumstances.
I've read about Max Linder, but never saw one of his films until now. I can see right way why he was popular. His side glances done to comic perfection and ability to make you identify with wanting to communicate with the foreign girl makes him instantly likeable. Too bad PTSD for WW1 ruined his life. But thanks to this, I'll look out for the other Linder films.
He should be much better remembered. The gentleman comedian ❤️
2:24 He reminds me of Gomez Addams.
He was a very sophisticated comedian. Out of all his contemparies of the time, he was the one who would have benefited most from sound.
Tout est mignon dans les films de Max Linder !
The woman is wonderful - she reminds me very much of Ellie Kemper. She is in fact Cecile Guyon, about whom I can find out nothing other than that she was born in 1890 and died in 1927.
Ce film est magnifique! Merci.
A silent film with no intertitle cards ...... tres intelligent!
👍👏😊♥️ Thanks for posting
Max Linder was French ..he is the one who helped put on the front of the stage charles chaplin ..
Max Linder was a funny guy it's too bad he died before his time.
The original Chaplin!
In the U.S.; suicide was a felony in many states. That changed in some in the 1960s. Many more did so in 1980s. It was still on the books in one into the 1990s. (In Canada, it was a crime until 1972.)
Florence Lawrence (1886 - 1938) was a Canadian actress, considered to be, "The First Movie Star". After she committed suicide in 1938, she was promptly 'forgotten' by the studios who didn't want that stain on them. Since Linder worked in France; his films lived on, despite his 1925 death.
To clarify, is Max Linder's character the French one having trouble speaking English(I'm aware he himself was French)to the English woman?
Funny comedy!
I know what you mean they thought it would ruin the draw pf their films I guess
